I know this is morbid but what would cause someone so young to die from lyme?
Is it lyme carditis?

He got no diagnosis for almost a year and who knows what treatment he got then. Was it the old 2 weeks and you are cured?
Brain infections can also kill people and lyme is found in the brain. And we don't know if he had any coinfections and whether they were treated. Babesiosis can kill people too.

Yes, I wondered if he had babesiosis. So tragic that the doctors ONCE AGAIN have ignored someone due to faulty testing and a lack of a proper diagnosis.

My math sucks, but assuming I added correctly, this poor kid could have been infected in Europe. If he tried getting diagnosed in the US while infected with garinii or afzelii...
There is also a virulent form of TB encephalopathy over there. Not that NB in the US is a cakewalk.
Not enough details in the articles to determine where he contracted Bb, unless I just missed them.

At least the article listed the cause of death as Lyme. That is something, at least, as so many Lyme deaths go unrecognized as such.
It is so sad and disconcerting and tragic to see someone so young and strong succumb to this.

- Should have said lyme allowed to progress by ignorant doctors or doctors too afraid to stand up to the IDSA, doctors saddled with workloads that prevent them from having time to study and learn the reality of lyme from those who do know.
Lyme allowed to progress by medical colleges that fail to properly educate on this topic.
Lyme allowed to progress by journalists who also fail to do their jobs by properly researching and reporting about lyme, tick borne infections. -
