The problem is that so many people use MeeMaw in Texas. "Nana" seems to be making a comeback, though.

I'm originally from Tennessee and we used grandma. I'd never heard meema until I got here. in fact nobody in my family had ever heard of it. and we're all mountain holler people from waaay back.
we did this great ancestor research and can go back to early 1700s. talk about fascinating.
always thought we were johnny rebs but actually we fought on both sides. and some of my ancestors were hysterical...horse theives, judges, hangings, you name it.
people should really do this. and the names...geez a man named fountain...really...and his possessions listed a mule, pot, rifle.
no wonder I'm wierd.

We would always spell it 'grandma' and say 'gramma'.

Couldn't help myself. Told your MeeMaw story to a friend earlier today. When I was done they said...
Well that's freaking AWESOME!
They have the same situation where a word will drive them up a wall. His word happens to be "awesome". Anytime he is around and the tv is on we cringe when someone says it cause we know how much it bothers him and that we are going to hear about it.
He hates it so much it has almost rubbed off on everyone else he knows.
So you are not alone in this situation, if that makes you feel better?
Oh, another person, younger girl, can't stand to use a soup spoon. I get a lecture if one is even on the table. It makes no sense to me (or her), but she goes off about it for no apparent reason. Never bothered her before Lyme.
