I had thought that the lab was closed down long ago. But it wasn't.
I got my Lyme & co from a mile and a half from there (approximately). From having an uncountable amount of known tick bites from when I was tiny right through the '90's. We always vacationed there growing up. You walk through the dunes, and you get ticks on you. ANd we burned them
off with a match. Even as an adult, we vacationed there, my husband and I, not knowing the dangers of Lyme and ticks.
Then, I got another tick bite in '09 in NJ. And tons of mosquito bites in NJ another time with a huge, hot, rash that lasted a long time that reappeared with treatment. Etc., etc.
I think that my mother had it, unbeknownst to us. Her family always vacationed on Fire Island, also a tick haven, also off Long Island. A friend calls it "Lyme Island." That's for sure!
Sigh.

I would have thought that the dunes would be too dry and out in the open sun for them. Good to know.

That article creeps me out. Gives me the Heebie jeebies.
I wouldn't go near that place-- I don't care what they turn it into. Just thinking about the place conjures up diseased feelings.
I wonder how many people on here believe in what is referred to as "the plum island conspiracy"?
I don't know enough about it to make an informed decision about my viewpoint.

I sure believe it. I wish I didn't have to know such dark stuff, or rather that it didn't exist. However . . .that's dreaming. Read Lab 257.

I've been meaning to read that book for a while. It sounds like something I would like a lot. I just got it.
