So I had messaged my PCP at the VA clinic for follow up after my cardio incident last week. Today I get a secure message [through MyHealthevet] and a different nurse [not my PCP’s nurse] tells me I should absolutely make an appointment to see him [duh].
I called the clinic number [here’s where it gets stupid] and after listening to the suicide hotline info, mental health info and navigating the “ to make or change your appointment push 2” song and dance I push “2”.
Now I’m connected to the VA hospital call center line and again, I get to listen to the suicide hotline info, mental health info and navigating the “ to make or change your appointment push 2” song and dance I push “2”. [Thank the Lord for cut and paste!]
Once more I am subjected to, you guessed it! suicide hotline info, mental health info and navigating the “ to make or change your appointment push 2” song and dance I push “2”.
It’s only 3 minutes after I started the call! However, now I have a human and I give her my info and request. She looks and sees the note that the nurse had put up [remember, this is not my PCP’s regular nurse!] and tells me that she can’t make that kind of follow up appointment because of the emergent nature of the follow up!
Call center emails my PCP’s nurse to call me for an ASAP follow up. Yay. So I wrote the not-my-PCP’s-nurse and said, “maybe if you started with Dr. G’s nurse first?”
[TV announcer’s excited voice over] But wait! There’s more!!!
The other nurse, in her secure message to me, said I needed to get referral to see a cardiologist. What?!?!!? I saw two or 3 of them already! I shouldn’t need to get my PCP’s permission or referral to see someone who has already seen me, my EKG, stress test and echocardiogram!!!!
That is stupid.

Updating for Trek'...
He finally got a hold of his PCP's nurse, and has an appt. early next week.
We'll see what they claim the heart issue was, and what they plan on having him do,if anything other than more meds.
