I have had chronic lyme since 2000 and am largely symptom free but have recurrent troubling symptoms waking at night.
About an hour or so after I fall asleep I wake with a smothering restless feeling and try to relax but it increases and my head feels like it's not getting oxygen, my heart rate is elevated and I feel clammy (hands/body).
I get out of bed and sit in a chair taking deep slow belly breaths, but it often gets worse where I feel tingly in my head and about to pass out. I take my BP and it is mildly elevated (130's/80's) and my heart rate can be anywhere from 80's-100 or so. Eventually this passes after 10-15 mins and sometimes I will feel cold, twitchy or shaky afterward. This always happens an hour or so into my sleep cycle and last night it happened twice in a row, which scared me.
I checked my symptom diary and have had these episodes since 2005 or so, so I imagine it if was dangerous I would be dead by now.
I do have lingering Supraventricular Tachycardia Episodes a few times a year, but this is not an irregular heart beat, it's different.
I am thinking nocturnal panic, babesia (though I don't sweat or flush during the day or at night) or some type of progressive ALS Neuro problem (no diagnosed ALS).
Anyone have this? I would be grateful to hear from you and get some thoughts on solutions. I am largely symptom free and can workout and live daily life fine now, so am not eager to begin treatment with ABX unless I have to.
