I hate ticks just as much as the next guy. I don't see how eliminating deer ( one of thousands of warm bodied mammals) will be the end all solution. That doesn't make sense. We have to target the ticks, not the animals they ride on.

No, not the solution. Ticks are also found on small animals and birds, as well as vegetation.
One person at the recent TBI working group hearing mentioned that nootkatone can kill ticks. Research ongoing.
I've also wondered about carbon dioxide machines, since ticks are attracted to it. There was a little robot demo of such - wonder what happened with it.
