Are there any home remedies for the old fashion croup cough?

It has already taken its toll and cost a Christmas with kids and grandkids.

Went to the doc and he gave me abx and a shot that was supposed to dry me up.

Chest quit rattling/gurgling but the cough and nasal congestion is unfazed.

Going on for at least two weeks so not a NEW deal.

If only I can get past the croup cough I can get back to life,,,,any suggestions???

I'm suffering also. i cannot get rid of this cough.

I've tried mucinex, abx, candida and fungal treatments, breathing exercises, codeine, you name it.

surely there must be something. and I don't buy this chronic bronchitis/asthma. never had that in my entire life.

what has yourdr said?

The homeopathic Spongia tosta 30c for a cough that sounds like a seal barking or like a saw cutting through wood. 5 pellets three times a day and cut back with improvement.

That should do the trick.

But in case it doesn't there is:
Gaia Bronchial Wellness Cough Syrup
Gaia Bronchial Wellness Tea
Boiron's Chestal
Genestre's Pulmo-Gen

All of those are excellent. But, first I would start with Spongia.

Disclaimer: This is not medical advice. Please consult your doctor for medical conditions.

ok, just had to say that. [Wink]

All the best to you!

Croup is viral. Antibiotics won't help heal you faster.

It is easily diagnosed by the classic " barking seal" sound the person makes when coughing.

It is usually treated with decadron, an oral steroid, this opens the airways so that you can breath again.

There is risk in children that the airway can close close off so the single steroid dose can be a life saver in severe cases.

If your case is not severe, just annoying, there are a couple things to do at home. First, we always tell families to run cool mist vaporizers near where the child rests or is playing.

The moisture will help loosen and thin the gunk in their airways helping them to breath easier.

If the child feels worse, they can sit in a steamy bathroom with the shower running for a good half hour or fourty min.

Some have also found that standing with the child's face held in a deep freezer for a few minutes makes them feel better too.

All of these things work for the same reason as the cool mist vaporizer. It is just a matter of preference.

There's a nasty virus going around here with a bad junky cough. Comes with a horrible runny nose and general run down feeling. People are passing it around like wildfire...

I would do the home treatments for croup and start taking mucinex, zyrtec, and sudafed.

Lymenet must be the magic elixer.

I was hacking and whacking like mad usually all night while lying down.

I have been drinking hot green tea with lots of honey in it.

I did that after posting and MOST of it went away after all these days of nothing helping.

Been down the zrtech and mucinex road to no help like they normally do.

Still coughing some but much more lightly

Nothing else seems to help,,,period,,,if somebody has it run far away

well I'm in fort worth. dr did say he's seen four pneumonia cases, and the rest was this crud.

apparently it's everywhere.

I did order the gaia bronchitis wellness cough stuff. amazon prime ships in 1-2 days.

I have to be super careful cause I have high bp. I can't take most otc stuff.

I've got tons of movies from Christmas so im staying in.

it's been in the 20's here, which is unusual but we're supposed to go up to 70's this week so maybe it will help.

if anybody has,any more suggestions I'm open....hack hack..

Great! Green tea was what I would suggest. And honey too! (antiviral, antibacterial) Glad it helped!

And of course, chicken soup.

I know this sounds hokey, but the Cold-EEZE that you can buy at the local store - like a cough drop but different- works well.

You are suppose to take it when the first symptoms appear- which I always forget to do- but it still works days into the "cold" or whatever.

Eat some food before sucking on one (I tend to get a tummy upset if I don't). And you aren't suppose to chew them, just use like an M & M and let it melt in your mouth.

It has proven to help every time for me. Here they are on Amazon, less than $5.00.

The last time I got a box (smaller than this one) it was about three years or maybe four before I used them all, as it only takes one or two to make the crud go away.

Even if you think you are feeling better may I suggest having them on hand? There is always a "next time" and you don't want to have to wait to get some.

https://www.amazon.com/Cold-Eeze-Remedy-Natural-Cherry-Lozenges/dp/B000KOU2K4?th=1

Hope you feel better soon little baboon.

YO, JD...

Granted, I am not a genius or a top-notch medical doctor, but...

If you choke on food while you are eating and reclining...

Maybe you shouldn't recline while you are eating.

Ding dong.

[Big Grin]

This is NOT medical advise. It is common sense.

For the chest congestion and cough, try a salt inhaler.
The price has improved since the time that you and Charlie and I bought one for Melanie in chat one night.
Look for salt inhaler at Amazon.com.

For sinus congestion, Serrapeptase will reduce fibrin in blood and mucous, thus reducing inflammation and thinning sinus secretions. Voila! Clear sinuses!
Read reviews at iHerb.com.

Also, Dextromethorphan will quiet the cough reflex at night.
The drugstores might keep it behind the counter now, as people used to buy it in large quantities to make something nefarious.

We did the steamy shower treatment for about 30 minutes when our kids had the croup.

I would mix one packet of Emergen-C (1000 mg Vit C) in 4-6 ozs. of water and drink it. Do this once a day.

Also, get Olive Leaf Extract capsules. OLE is anti-bacterial, anti-viral, anti-fungal. Make sure you take it with food, so it doesn't irritate your stomach.

You can buy OLE at a health food store, but the Seagate brand has the most active ingredient (oleuropein) in it.

http://seagateproducts.com/product/223/Olive-Leaf-Extract-450mg-90-V-Caps.html

Note: I am in no way affiliated with any of these products - just trying to help (we use them ourselves).

Read about Dr. Morton Walker and Olive Leaf Extract: Antimicrobial Therapy" in the Townsend Letter

https://secure.seagateproducts.com/images/uploads/pages/File/townsend-letter-may.pdf

I have his book (paperback, 223 pages) which I purchased used from Amazon. You can get one used dirt cheap (shipping will cost you more than the book!!)
