Senator Patty Murray, US Senator (D) from Washington State; " I repeatedly raised concerns about Dr Fitzgerald's conflicts of interest and broad refusals from work."
Miss Hypocrite Fitzgerald has made Tabasco cessation one of her priorities. Why, then, did she invest in tobacco companies while working to reduce consumption ? Prior to accepting the top CDC position, she owned stock in 5 tobacco companies, including Reynolds America, British American Tobacco, Phillip Morris, Imperial Brands, and Altria Group.
On August 9th 2018, one day after purchasing stocks in global giant Japan Tobacco, Dr Fitzgerald toured the CDC's Tobacco Labortory, which researches how chemicals in tobacco harm human health.
Dr Fitzgerald also participated in meetings in which she has financial conflicts of interest, which include;
She attended meetings related to the opioids crisis, Ebola treatments and HIV treatments, while owning Merck Pharmaceuticals stocks, which is making products targeting these areas.
She also owns Bayer stocks, which works closely with the CDC on the Zika virus.
She also owns stocks in Humana Insurance, which also could cause conflict of interest in treatment coverages.
Dr Fitzgerald declined to be interviewed or to comment.
Dr Anne Schuchat will be Acting CDC Director until a replacement is named to fill Dr Fitzgerald's position.
