So important to have a carbon monoxide detector that has a battery back up if it is plugged in.
Mine starting beeping yesterday during my nap and that got my heart rate up.
Turned out detector was old and faulty, but I immediately replaced it.
They say to replace carbon monoxide detectors and smoke detectors every 10 years, but the average life span is really only about 7 years (or so the hardware man told me).

Good for you hiker! Thanks for sharing too!
Very important to have the detectors- and to check them regularly. And any systems that emit carbon monoxide.
You mentioned beeping. HA!
I have a LOT of detectors in any home I've even lived in (as a fire fighter I know what can happen with a house fire), and they sometimes go off with high humidity levels. Also, small spiders can set them off.
Some times they chirp, sometimes it is the full screaming. Ahhhhhh, my ears! Anyhow...
Having a number of detectors in a small place often has me wandering around at night- after being woken by the chirps or screams- trying to figure out which detector is killing my ears!
IT DRIVES ME CRAZY! I almost always have to take down two or three detectors to find the one causing the problem.
And good thing there isn't a huge hammer sitting around when I do! I'd kill them all for sure!
