They want me to have a resection of a piece of my colon.- Remove the diverticular bad spot then hook the ends back together.
Scares me real bad! MADDOG

My brother had this done. It was rough. He was 60. Still working construction. They took 15 inches. He had a bag for a month I think. He said it wasn’t that bad. He actually went back to work. But he’s the boss so he drove truck but didn’t do everything.
Then a second surgery to take bag. And put things back together. I think he had IV antibiotics at home for awhile. But he’s back to full time work now.
The colon surgery was way easier than the shoulder surgery he had 2 yrs ago. He was out of work on IV 3x a day for that
Good luck what ever you decide. I remember his doc said it’s much better to do a planned surgery than have it go to emergency.

Agree about not doing it as an emergency!! Get your ducks in a row and a doctor you trust!

- Maybe your doctor or the hospital can connect you with others who have had this done successfully. There might be some kind of support group.
Hopefully, others will reply with direct experience yet, if you can also connect with someone nearby that might be valuable to ease your mind and help get your ducks in a row.
In the meantime, avoiding oxalates in food might be a good helper no matter what plans are made - and might also really help the integrity of the tissue for reconstruction strength even if only for a short time prior and ongoing afterward. -

2nd opinions are a great idea! Also get all the details on exactly the length and location of what is being resected and recovery time and treatment. But you knew that, right? Who's a smart old doggie?!!

- Lightbulb flicker here. Just wonder if hyperbaric oxygen treatment might work to bring back circulation to the (assumed) diseased pockets in the colon? It might be a way to heal without surgery - depending upon what the images show the diseased zones to be, the extent, etc.
Seem that if there might be some way to get circulation going there again, it might help. Just a thought. I do not know, of course yet seems it's a good question to explore if the lack of circulation is not yet too great.
If it has gone too long or the lack of circulation is too severe, of course, then you might feel much better after surgery to have that bad tissue (which can reach toxic levels) out of you for a kind of fresh start. -
