Summer is heating up again here. How about where you live?

This is the thread where we talk about our exercise and other items. Are you gardening, shopping, cleaning, washing your car, walking? All these and and so much more count as movement.

So, come join us as we encourage each other to exercise.

Have a super week. [hi]

Sunday is typically my more restful day.

I did water flowers outside and pulled a few weeds as I went. Deadheaded the marigolds so they keep blooming.

I did one load of laundry.

Went to church via zoom. Still not ready to go in person, like Lymetoo does.

Did not catch any raccoons with the traps last night. May put an orange in a trap. We have skunks in the area so I need to avoid what they eat. Skunks do not like the smell of citrus. Am going to ask my neighbor to help as I am not sure how to reset the trap.

Yakked an hour with my mom. Time to read and will probably watch a “chick flick” on Hallmark tonight. Pathetic Covid life. Lol

Thanks Hiker for getting us going for the week! I rested today too and ordered dinner from Olive Garden tonight for me, Mom and Josh.

I'm finally not as sore today. Think I'm going to dig another trench and try my hand at putting in a French drain instead of a rain barrel. My Mom's BFF has extra corrugated pipe that I can have for free.

Hiker I'm so glad that you talked with your Mom for that long. I know you miss her! Also be careful catching that darn raccoon!

Night all!

I did my knee exercises this morning and then went to the chiropractor. Took it easy for a while to hold adjustment.

Ran a bunch of errands this afternoon but I didn’t have to go inside anywhere. I picked up supplements from another chiropractor and they have a dropbox.

I went to the library to pick up my summer reading program prize which is a gift certificate to a local garden center. They brought that and a book right out to the car.

Went through the drive-through at the bank. I was depositing a check and getting a little bit of money back and they handed me the receipt without the money. Got that corrected pretty quick. [Big Grin] :

A thunderstorm blew up very quickly as I was leaving the bank parking lot. Tree limbs down everywhere. 60 to 70 mph winds. A construction worker nearby had his hardhat go flying and then I ran it over with the car.

Got home and there’s a big tree limb down in my yard from the church next-door. I’ve been begging them to cut back the trees that have limbs dangling over my yard and are dying but they won’t Way too many for me to hire somebody to do. Would be very expensive. The church has actually moved to a different site and this lot and building is up for sale, so they are not keeping it up very well.

Storm is much calmer now but I suspect will have a few more roll through tonight. At least I don’t need to water the plants.

Think I will wait to pull garbage can to curb or it will go flying in next storm.

AK .. I sure hope your hard work will pay off!! It is SO hot out there!! I think we will be cooler tomorrow.

Hiker .. That was scary!! When you texted me, I thought you said HE ran over the hat. I bet you felt terrible that you hit it. He was probably glad he was safe.

You should document about those trees and if you ever have to spend money on them, SEND THE BILL TO THE CHURCH, or the owner of the lot.

I ran some errands at the pharmacy and Home Depot. Also got more school supplies at Walgreen's. Great sale on large erasers, scissors and pencils. I also picked up some stuffed animals that were very cheap.

Not sure what I will do tonight, but I want to be more productive than I HAVE been lately. [Big Grin]

Just watered my morning glory. It still has not bloomed and I am losing hope that it will.

Started my Monday by knocking out my 3 workout DVDs, facial exercises and pelvic routine. Made a simple lunch of ham sandwiches, tortilla chips and cucumber salad for me and Mom.

Was supposed to pick up the corrugated pipe today but my Mom's BFF forgot and wasn't home. So I'm picking it up tomorrow.

Had to call the city about digging near the gas line so have to wait for them to come out and mark where it is before I can start the French drain project.

Also with all the rain we've been getting I noticed some more rainwater runoff in the backyard. Drat! The trench I dug is working great to contain the water from the shed roof but this water is coming from behind the shed.

So more work for that issue but I do see light at the end of the long, long landscaping tunnel.

Hiker that's a whole lot of errands! Also hope your tire's OK after running over the hardhat. Oh, and I agree with TuTu about documenting everything. Josh sent letters via certified/registered mail to his neighbors to document that he notified them of diseased trees. One neighbor actually paid to cut down a huge oak tree.

TuTu I sure hope and pray that I finish the hard stuff this month. I think I'll need all of September to recover! LOL! While I was at Lowe's Saturday I checked out their flowers and was very tempted to buy some but decided I'll wait til it's time to plant mums this fall and do that instead.

Well gang, guess it's time to veg and google French drain instructions.

AK-French Drain? You always have creative yardwork. [Big Grin]

Did my balance exercises.

Ran a quick errand. College kids are back so now I have to drive safely. [Roll Eyes]

Cleaning lady came this afternoon with her mask on. I went outside and picked up sticks from yesterday’s storm to be out of the way. Wrestled the big limb that fell from the church tree into the church yard. Did a bit of weeding.

Sat on the patio and read until she was done cleaning. Love a clean house and it is worth it to pay her for a once a month cleaning. Thought I would cancel her service when I retired but don’t regret keeping her.

Saw that Big 10 fall sports including football and volleyball are canceled. Disappointing for players and fans. I gave up the sports channels on DirectTV And was going to put them back on but now I will wait.

I am off to listen to the morning prayer service from the National Cathedral. Better late than never. 😃

Hope the French drain works! My dad put one in back in the 50's .. must be an old Southern thing. LOL

I actually did something constructive today! HA!!

Went to church and we worked on shoebox stuff. We had two people in one room and two in another. We got quite a bit done. Even though it feels like we are way behind, I think we are way ahead.

We will probably shoot for 200 boxes. We did more than 300 last year.

We found more items in the attic than we thought we had. It was stuff left over from last year. We make sure we include a pencil bag full of supplies and refuse to send boxes without them.

When we ran out of 'GOODIES' to put in the boxes, we shut it down and packed the school stuff away. We had more than we thought too!!

Received the 54 soccer balls when I got home. Had them shipped to my house because no one is there to take them at church.

We will probably pack those next week.

We already "constructed" 50 shoeboxes and put them in the narthex, so church members will be surprised to see them already!

We also need to finish putting calendar pics and Bible verses in the lids. I need to find out when we will get more boxes.

Our regional always gets donations of them and they distribute them to us. Quite the blessing!
These are "pretty" boxes with the OCC logo on them.

I need to water my plants now and then see about the Perseid showers in the sky!

Hiker .. I hope your shoulder survived the tree work. Any word on the raccoon?

Ugh! Woke up at 4:30 so did all my workouts early then washed my bedding and a load of clothes.

Made a brunch of chopped ham and cheese scrambled with eggs and premade pancakes. I had a gluten free waffle.

Then it was off to Target and the local grocery store.

Picked up the corrugated pipe and plan to wake up at 5:45 to get started digging another trench. Oh joy!

Hiker I heard briefly about college football being cancelled. What a bummer! You did quite a bit of yardwork today! I'm with TuTu and hope your shoulder's OK.

TuTu I wish I knew what I was doing when it comes to the French drain! I'm relying heavily on Google and YouTube. I want to stay up and see the meteor shower too but I'm exhausted and heading to bed.

See everyone tomorrow!

No formal exercise today. I did spend about 6 hours digging a trench for a French drain that I'm putting in tomorrow. That is if I can move tomorrow! [Big Grin]

Have some cramping in my hands and legs so might have gotten overheated. I started at 6:30 but was soaking wet within an hour and a half.

So I'm vegging for the rest of the day.

See you all tomorrow!

AK—that is a lot of work. I am in awe.

I did my knee exercises.

Went grocery shopping. Several pints of dairy free ice cream fell into my cart. But I bought extra vegetables to make up for it. 🤣

Store was out of ammonia so I went to Farm and Fleet. Got two gallons. Am using it to keep raccoons away from upper deck. Got some bird seed, too.

Boiled sugar and water and am letting it cool to fill my hummingbird feeder. I have not had good luck attracting hummingbirds but hoping this migration season is different.

Have a good evening!

So I guess the ammonia is working? My hummingbirds are attracted to my plants, but I have to be looking out at the right time to see them.

One came right up to my window/door one day and I tried to get a pic. The phone/camera wasn't quick enough on the shutter!

I'll keep trying! I caught one with my phone/camera a few years ago.

AK .. That drain was impressive!! I hope you get some rest soon and will enjoy the fruit of your labor.

Today I washed clothes, cleaned hubby's bathroom, and ran some errands.

Hubby is playing a show tonight. Hope it goes well. He is subbing.

Now I'm working on things for OCC and watching TV.

Nite nite!!

Wanted to go out and weed flowerbeds last evening but the 'skeeters were too aggressive. This morning its overcast so we went out to pull weeds before it gets too hot.

The mosquitoes were still trying to attack, but not as bad as yesterday. Found the all natural bug spray and then it was much more peaceful out there. Time to take a break with some cold water to drink.

Would like to sort through some boxes of papers from the attic this afternoon. Time to pitch some stuff!

Manna—mosquitoes are bad here, too.

I watered flowers this morning.

Did my balance exercises.

Called MD office who over charged me. They were polite and admitted their error.

Went to a porch picnic with Bible study friends. We each brought our own lunch and sat in the shade social distancing. There were 8 of us and while I was a little timid about going and not having a mask on while we ate, I sure did enjoy face to face conversation.

Feel like a nap but if I take one now I won’t sleep well tonight.

Way overdid it yesterday. Spent 10 hours hooking drainage hose together and attaching it to catch basins. Modified the downspout to go into one catch basin.

Had to get 3 separate loads of river rock. Ten 45 pound bags for each load. I hauled and filled the trench after wrapping the pipe in landscape fabric.

Also had to move the loads of dirt I dug up so built up low spots in the side and back yards.

I can hardly move today.

Hiker having a porch picnic where you bring your own food is a brilliant idea! Hope you have little winged visitors soon!

TuTu I can't wait for rain to see how my French drain works. It really was too much work for me. I don't know what on earth I was thinking!

Manna mosquitoes are fierce here too! When I work outside for any length of time I wear my work jeans, a man's long sleeve shirt, work gloves, a bandana over my head and neck and a wide brimmed hat. Even then I spray Off around my shoes, bandana and hat.

See you guys tomorrow!

AK—rest this weekend.

I did my knee exercises.

Went for a short walk.

Filled finch feeders. Need to go buy more thistle.

Have a sinus/allergy type headache, so took a nap. Still waiting on correct lenses for my glasses, so that may be contributing to headache. Wrong lens curvature.

Made more sugar water for my hummingbird feeder and put it in fridge. It will last there up to two weeks. No hummers, yet, but one can hope they will come soon.

Have a good evening.

AK, take it easy! I'm tired just hearing about all your hard work! Sure hope everything works just right for you.

Hiker, does the thistle seed ever sprout & grow thistles? We have a lot of thistles growing in the flower bed that we are suspecting came from the bird seed.

I've seen a few Gold finches in the flowerbed. They are such pretty birds with the bright yellow color.

Did the laundry today - had the lines full and it dried nicely. Also got some more weeds pulled. Didn't get to go out & work at it this evening. FIL came over for a visit.

Two of the children were out mowing lawn this evening. Grass was getting rather high again.

Tonight I made sliced tomatoes with egg & cheese salad, cabbage slaw, and sloppy joes for supper.

AK .. I hope you will feel better tomorrow!! I can't imagine doing 1/10 of what you did! Bring on the rain so we can see if it worked!!!

Don't be jealous! We don't have many mosquitoes here. At least not where I am. I must admit I don't go out at night very often, but we really don't have many.

It might be because we have hills, so any water runs off and doesn't collect. WE DO have a creek down the hill though.

Hiker .. The Bible study sounds great. I hope you guys get to do it again. Also hope the headache is gone now!

I went up to church to get the pencils for a team member who is packing the pencil bags for the boxes. She needed more.

We stopped to see how the new soccer balls fit in the shoeboxes. THEY FIT GREAT!!!

We were so thrilled to see that we had plenty of room left for the pencil bags, maybe a cap or T-shirt and other goodies. The balls are much softer than I thought they would be, so you can squish them down.

Tonight I cut out calendar pics to go inside the lids. We will put Bible verses on them also. I have almost 200 of them!!

It was kinda fun cutting them out.

So .. I better get to bed!! NITE NITE!

Manna--I used Niger thistle which has been specially treated (not chemicals) in some way. I never get thistle growing in the yard due to bird seed.

Tutu--sounds like lots of progress already with OCC. May need to mail early this year with postal service slow downs.

After 2 days of serious meds I feel some better. I'm hanging out in the bed again and just reading and watching TV.

My Mom reminded me to take it easy so I can drive her this Monday to Emory hospital in Atlanta for an MRI of her liver and some bloodwork.

Her BFF is coming along and after appointments the ladies want to do some shopping at a huge ethnic and Asian market.

Hiker sure hope the headache is from your lenses and not your sinuses. We have 3 hummingbirds that dive bomb and cheep at each other as they fight over the 2 hummingbird feeders. I'm rooting for the small one!

Manna your dinner sounds so delicious! I haven't cooked dinner for 2-3 days now. It's been TV dinners and leftovers which is fine by me.

TuTu it's been raining off and on down here and naturally once I finished the drain I went running outside to see how it worked. I need to tweak it at the downspout by cutting into the top of the catch basin grate and shoving the corrugated adapter inside. Also at the end I need to dig some more at the end catch basin because it's a bit to high. Sigh.......

That darn YouTube and Google makes things look so easy....but today I noticed most people don't do the job solo....duh!!!

Ak--Rest up! Sounds like you have done a good job with the drain considering you were on your own and just using YouTube.

I watered about half of my flowers this morning and after 30 minutes I decided to leave the others dry hoping rain would magically appear. And the rain is now coming down. Hurrah.

I trimmed some dead branches out of the forsythia and did a bit of weeding.

Did my balance exercises.

I did one load of laundry and managed to slam the washing machine door on my finger. Think I will lose the nail. [Frown] Saved the rest of the laundry for another day.

Cooked my usual Saturday salmon lunch with veggie and sweet potato. I prefer trout but our stores don't sell that anymore.

Yakked with my college buddy who lives in WI for an hour. So those lips and jaws got exercise!

I have a sudden urge for salty snacks but am resisting going to the store. Silly to go out in a pandemic for chips.

Am reading a good mystery and will finish that up later.

On Saturdays I have been watching the BBCA channel which is featuring birds from around the world and their interesting migration and feeding habits. So, that is on my list to watch tonight.
