Here on our friendly thread we like to post what activities we can do to encourage one another.

So if you're walking, riding a bike, doing laundry, gardening, weight training, kayaking, etc. please post it here.

OK gang, here we go with another week!

[woohoo]

This summer sure is flying by fast.

I went to church via Zoom this morning.

I did a load of laundry and managed not to slam the washing machine door on my finger again. LOL

The rain did not last long yesterday, so I ended up watering the plants I did not water yesterday.

Chatted with my mom as I always do on Sundays. Since my dad is too deaf to hear on the phone and has lost his technology skills, I wrote him a snail mail letter. Sadly, at age 97 he is fading fast.

Safe travels to Atlanta tomorrow, AK. Hope your mom gets a good report.

AK .. thanks for starting the thread. I had time this morning to close the other thread, but no time to open a new one.

Hope you have a fun (and safe) day tomorrow!

Good job on the washing machine, hiker!! LOL I'm happy you were able to chat with your mom. Sending an email to Dad is something I know he enjoyed!

Went to church this morning. Had fun showing friends the soccer balls. I can't wait for the donor to see them. She wasn't there today.

Seems like so many of us are getting weary of this "mess" called COVID. I am thankful for our Pastor and everyone there who tries to lift our spirits.

Today I caught a beautiful butterfly and a hummingbird on my balcony. I admonished them for eating without my permission. [Big Grin]

Not really, I took pics of them. LOL

Took a nap prior to that. I didn't sleep well last night so I made up for it this afternoon.

Have a good evening, everyone!

No exercise today just spent a relaxing day with my Mom and Josh. I didn't cook my usual Sunday dinner. We did take out Mexican fast food.

Hiker thank you for the well wishes! Glad you spared your finger today! I'm sorry to hear about your Dad's decline. Hang in there my friend!

TuTu we're going to a big farmer's market instead of our usual Asian market. I'm excited about going since it's been a few years since we've been there. I bet you enjoyed your winged visitors today!

Off to bed!

I went for a short walk this morning.

Did my knee exercises.

Since I haven’t trapped any raccoons I cleaned up the trap and gave it back to my neighbor. Still putting ammonia rags on deck at night, though.

Made blueberry muffins and froze them.

Picked up 2 books at the library and returned three.

Called the eye center and my new lenses for my glasses just came in. Couldn’t get an appointment to pick them up and adjust the glasses until Wednesday.

I had a hummingbird at my feeder today. It didn’t stay long but hopefully it will be back. So tiny and beautiful.

Egads! Me and my Mom had a sleepless night so the trip to ATL was tough today. Mom's MRI and bloodwork was uneventful just waiting for results when she has her cellphone/video appointment with her new Interventional radiologist.

Hiker was thrilled to hear about your tiny winged visitor. Now it knows where the buffet is!

Night gang!

Did the laundry today. Still have to bring the jeans and table cloths in from the line.

Cleaned up 3 of my spider plants and 3 Christmas cactus plants and took them out to the store to sell. I have too many and they don't thrive in the basement over winter. They just survive.

Also took one of the lemon trees we started from seed. Its about 3 feet tall. I have another citrus tree that is taller than I am and I want the boys to take it out in the truck. Its too tall for any of the other vehicles.

Want to check how many of my baby trees from this years seed sprouting survived. Some take off and grow nice and some are kind of slow and unhappy looking and some just shrivel up and die. I wonder what makes the difference?

Hubby was out mowing this evening with the riding mower again. This summer has been a fairly good one for him. He's been doing more than he had for quite awhile. We're delighted!

MannaMe—so glad to hear your husband is doing better this summer. 😀 When you say you take your plants to sell at the store, is that your store or someone else’s?

I did my balance exercises.

Went to my new GP. I had heard such wonderful things about her but wasn’t that impressed. She hardly looked up from taking notes and didn’t ask me a single personal question.

I switched to her as I thought I might roll my gynecological appointments over to her and I might be more comfortable with a woman. My ob/gym passed away. The male physician I was going to was fine but he also did pediatrics and she does adults only.

She ordered follow up thyroid tests and vitamin D3 test because they were a bit abnormal in December. But she did not do a full physical and seemed confused as to why I was there. When I asked to switch from my old physician her nurse told me it was a meet and greet and physical. Obviously it was not.

Supposedly my physical is in December, so I guess I should reserve judgement until then. Can’t really switch back as both are In the same practice.

Tomorrow I go get the new lens for my glasses. Hope this one is correct. Ironically, my BFF goes to the same eye center but different doctor and her new lenses are totally wrong, too. I think wearing the mask and testing vision with glasses on makes it more difficult to accurately tested.

AK-how was the farmer’s market?

Hiker, its a little mom 'n pop grocery store out in town.

Today I made V8 tomato juice and canned it. I got a bushel of seconds of tomatoes from a local produce farmer. I have 20 quarts cooling on the counter.

I'm tired tonight.... good night!

Manna-I am impressed with all the canning you do!

Picked up my new lenses today. Still don’t feel right. But maybe I need to get used to them.

Went grocery shopping. Since I have gained weight since December, I didn’t buy any treats for myself. I am not overweight but 5 or 6 pounds is a size up in pants and I hate clothes shopping.

My summer shorts are expandable so I didn’t notice the weight gain until I got on the scale at the MD office yesterday.

Did my knee exercises.

Watered the flowers outside. Dry spell coming for awhile.

See you tomorrow!

I hear ya on the weight gain, hiker! I'm unhappy with myself, but I'm not going out like I used to and I've been sitting around eating! ARGH!!

Today, I picked up my friend's 10 yr old daughter from the Y and took her clothes shopping for school. Since they don't let you try on clothes, it was easy. LOL !! I got lucky!!

Then we went to get some fast food and drinks. We sorta toured the fast food places. AHAHAHA... funny... We had time to kill because Mom and Dad were in a city 3 hours away taking care of immigration stuff. (Mission accomplished!)

So then we came home and she tried on clothes. Everything fit, so all is good!! They said I'm hired for next year!! [Big Grin]

Tonight hubby subbed at a show and I decided to go since his cousin's girl friend and family were going to be there.

So .. I'm ready for bed soon!!!

Hiker .. I hope your glasses will be OK. I don't see how it can be accurate if they did the testing with glasses on.

Can't believe it's Thursday already! I've been basically down for the count since getting home from ATL on Monday. Having neck and shoulder pain which I think is giving me a whopper of a headache. So no exercise and trying to take it easy.

Hiker hope your new lenses and GP will work out for you. I really enjoyed the farmer's market. It was huge and has aisles labeled by country. They had 3 just for Japanese foods. Hoping next time I go I won't be so tired.

Manna I'm with Hiker on admiring your canning. I haven't done much myself but have blanched and frozen lots of veggies. Great news about your hubs feeling better!

TuTu I bet you enjoyed yourself getting out! I never thought I'd see the day where I'd be chomping at the bit to go grocery shopping! Can't wait for things to get better!

Well....I'm off to lay around and read.

Yes, admiration for Manna and canning. I had my fill of that during my childhood. Whew!! I spent half of my childhood shelling peas! LOL

(snapped green beans, shelled lima beans, purple hull, cream peas, shucked corn, you name it)

Today, I made a quick trip to the store again because yesterday I was short on time since we did the clothes shopping.

Also went to the pharmacy for hubby's med.

Came home and fixed chili .. the easy way!

Now I need to go water the flowers. I have to water the NON-BLOOMING morning glory twice a day. Maybe I should just let it die!!! [rant]

The weather has been nice, but it's about to get hot and humid again. We are on the way to fall!!!

Hiker... It's dry here too.

AK—hope you feel better soon.

Did my balance exercises.

Spent several hours under a shade tree at a friend’s with several other women from Bible study. We each brought our own lunch again and sat at least 6 feet apart. It was 82 with a nice breeze and felt like heaven to socialize.

Spent the afternoon writing some letters and a poem.

Off to fix dinner.

Happy Friday!

I watered my flowers this morning.

I did my knee exercises.

Went to chiropractor and have taken it pretty easy so adjustment will hold.

I did make a meatloaf, but may pick up a gluten free pizza with my gift card for dinner.

Have a great evening.

Hi everyone! No exercise today but got up early to drop off my Mom's car to get an oil change and hoofed it home about a block.

Picked up her car and took it to another shop for rear passenger side tire repair.

Gassed up her car, dropped off mail and then we went to the commissary for groceries.

It's 8:28 and I'm already in my jammies. [Roll Eyes]

TuTu we had similar childhoods except we went to my grandparents farm in the summer. All the kids, about 10 of us (cousins) had farm chores. BTW, purple hull peas are my favorite!

Hiker I'm envious of your social life! I haven't done any group socializing outside of my family on Mother's day. Gluten free pizza sounds wonderful!

Well...guess I'm going to read a bit and chillax. Later friends!

[hi]

Hiker ...I love meatloaf and pizza, but I rarely eat them. Would be heavenly. Hope the chiro adjustment holds.

AK .. My farm experience came from the fact that my dad helped his sister do the farming when her husband died. It was my dad's old home place about 45 minutes from Houston.

I don't know how many acres, but plenty. She had a one acre garden, with rows and rows of potatoes, corn, peas, etc. Some of the peas like purple hull and the cream peas (my favorite) were grown in the large fields where cotton was grown. She also grew corn for feeding the cattle.

The peas were planted there as part of the crop rotation. Lima beans were there too.

She also had about 15 fig trees in that one acre garden. We had to use a HUGE ladder to pick the figs all the way up.

My mom made strawberry jelly from the figs. I am now hungry for it!! LOL

She had pigs at one time, cattle and chickens. Oh, the memories! I am very grateful for the experience.

The farming took place on the weekends, as my dad had a job in downtown Houston.

OK .. So what did I do today? Bummed around the house, washed some clothes, made bracelets for OCC, took pics and videos of the hummingbird and butterfly that keep coming back.

Then I made a quick trip to the grocery store and picked up food at Chili's. I was hungry for a good salad.

Need to get to bed!

Nite nite!

Lymetoo, I've never heard of purple hull peas or the cream peas. How did you serve them?

I got a banana box of tomatoes yesterday to use for spaghetti sauce, salsa and pizza sauce.

Also got some blueberries to put in the freezer - we like using them in smoothies or just eating them frozen, right from the freezer. Maybe I should try making a batch of pie filling and canning it.... I'll have to hide it or the children will eat it as a dessert before I get any pies made!!

Manna...Purple hull are similar to black-eyed peas. So you would serve them in the same way.

Cream peas are something I would really love to eat again one day. I don't even know if seeds can still be obtained.

They are smaller than black-eyed peas and harder to shell, but OH SO WORTH IT.

I found the cream peas ... We picked them while still green. My mom didn't like the dried ones as much.

I THINK these are the same peas.

I'm not familiar with black eyed peas either. The only way I've had them was out of a tin can, mixed with other beans in a baked bean casserole.

If you picked the cream peas while still green, were they like green soy beans? Did you serve them with cream or butter?

My mom occasionally planted soy beans. We picked them green, shelled them and she cooked them and served them as a vegetable with a little cream from the milk jug poured over top of them.

I have planted kidney beans & navy beans a time or two. I canned them. The kidney beans I add to chili or chow-chow and the navy beans I use for baked beans.

I may have to try growing the cream peas sometime.

You should find some fresh black-eyed peas sometime!! In the south, they are available in the grocery stores for New Year's. It's a tradition to eat them for good luck.

Canned ones are so-so.

The cream peas are very small and taste different from soy beans.

Because they are small, it takes a lot of shelling to get what you need.

We always slathered them with butter. [Smile]

All this talk about beans and peas is making me wish for some.

I did some weeding when it was cooler this morning. You would think after months of doing knee exercises that squatting to weed would not be a problem. But my quads were shaking by the time I finished.

I did my balance exercises.

I cooked my usual healthy fish and vegetable lunch for Saturday.

I did one load of laundry.

I am sitting outside on the patio enjoying the breeze right now. It will heat up next week but we have had two absolutely gorgeous weeks in a row. We are in a drought, however.

Have a good evening. 🌙

No exercise again. Have a bit of a headache so I'm resting now.

Earlier today I made a brunch for me and Mom of gluten free waffles, scrambled eggs and bacon.

Did some prep work for tomorrow's dinner. Washed some green leaf lettuce and tore into bite size pieces and grated a carrot and mixed it together. Made some zoodles for the spaghetti sauce. Cut up a seedless watermelon and some cucumber.

TuTu my gosh that's a huge garden! Fig preserves is my favorite and I love fresh ones! My grandfather had cows and chickens too. We used to make butter by shaking the cream in a big glass jar. I miss all the fresh fruit, veggies and unlimited butter!

Manna your homemade sauces and salsa sound wonderful! I use jarred sauces and Herdez canned verde salsa. [Roll Eyes]

Hiker kudos on weeding! That's hard work! I was just thinking today after checking the mail how many weeds are growing in the cracks in our driveway and behind the boxwood bushes. The plan is to start a bit more yard work next week.

See everyone tomorrow!
