Welcome to the Exercise Thread! We like to post just about any activity that gets us moving to encourage one another to be as active as possible.

So if you're walking, vacuuming, washing dishes, cooking, weight training, kayaking, running, mountain climbing, etc post it here! We'd love to hear about it!

So here we go gang with another week......

[woohoo]

AK—Thanks for starting this off this week. Hope your mom is doing OK.

I went to church via zoom. And then I did a load of laundry.

I spent a long time talking with mom. She keeps flip-flopping on whether to send dad to assisted living. I think today was the breaking point when she couldn’t get Dad dressed. I told her she cannot change her mind. That the assessment is going to happen and he is going to move.

My mom is so stressed. And my dad is so stubborn. He refused to go to physical therapy which was to teach him how to get on his knees and crawl and hold onto a chair to get up when he falls. So, I am sure he’s going to refuse to move and we will have to figure out a way to get him over there.

I bought a blood pressure cuff last week and I am not going to use it today. I don’t even want to see what it reads.

I am going to go sit on the porch for a while and try to destress.

This afternoon my family had a birthday party for my mom, my brother & me. Our birthdays are in August, but it just didn't suit to get together before.

So the only exercise was moving jaws with talking & eating!!

Hiker, hope your parents will accept the help they need. Take time to breathe and relax for yourself. Being caretaker is stressful - even if its from afar.

Ak, hope your mom is doing well.

We are extra busy because we are packing up to move. So my stress levels are rather high lately. The one good thing about that is I'm loosing some extra pounds. Wow, I just figured out - its 20 lbs so far! I could loose another 15 - 20 till I'm at the place I feel best.

Ran some errands and spent the day taking care of my Mom. Made breakfast for her and dinner was just heated up leftovers. We sat for awhile on the porch drinking hot tea and enjoying the hummingbirds and fresh air.

Hiker I hope and pray that things will work out for the best where your folks are concerned. It must be very hard on you! Sending you a hug!

Manna talking and eating are my kind of exercise! I didn't realize that you're moving. That can be very stressful. Hang in there!

Off to give my Mom her evening meds.

Hiker .. I sure hope things get settled soon so it won't be so stressful for everyone. Will continue to pray for you and family.

Manna .. I'm sorry you have to move. I HATE moving! Congrats on losing weight! I lost about 5 lbs .. Would love to lose a few more.

AK... Sounds like your mom is feeling a little better?

I gave the sermon today again. I think our Pastor is finished with vacation days until next year now. This time I found a sermon online. It was on Philippians 2:1-13. I love Philippians!

Between services I was looking online and I found a great deal on a sewing machine. I got a basic Singer for $40!! I thought the deal was $50 and when I gave the guy $50 he handed back a $10 and said, "No, I lowered the price to $40."

(on top of that, he brought it to our town from 40 miles away because he was headed down here anyway)

Blew my mind! I looked up the machine and it sells for $160 brand new. He said he bought it in the spring to make masks and he didn't need it anymore!!

I'm going to make things for OCC. I don't even know where to begin!!! The machine is lightweight so that makes it easier on me too.

I also had to get a price adjustment on some washcloths I bought Sat at Kohl's. The girl helping me saw my OCC shirt and said she loves the ministry.

We talked a bit and I found out that she used to come to our church with her grandparents when she would come down from Iowa.

I remembered her grandparents and asked about them. Grandma has advanced COPD. I told the young 20-something to come to church sometime and she said she would!

I love God!

So then I took a nap and called two friends and that's about it for the day.

I hope everyone sleeps well tonight. See you tomorrow!

Lounged around today and just took care of my Mom. She increased her pain meds to a whole pill instead of 1/2. I'm glad she's taking them as prescribed so she's more comfortable.

She's not eating much so I might start making fruit and yoghurt smoothies.

Thinking about Hiker today.

TuTu way to go on the sermon! Wow! What a deal on the sewing machine! I wonder what you're going to be sewing for OCC. So exciting!

Well...off to find something to watch on TV.

My mom & sister came today and helped pack up the rest of my canned food and the empty canning jars. One more thing off the list!

We find moving an adventure! And a LOT of work. We are excited, because this is a home of our own! We've been praying about our place and God opened doors and things just fell into place. If only we'd learn not to get so stressed out over everything!!

Did the laundry today, it was really cloudy this morning but the sun came out this afternoon and had a good breeze to dry everything.

Dropped sonny off at his job and when I got back in my vehicle, the interior light stayed on. When I got home, I tried to close the windows and nothing happened! I got my oldest son the check it out and he says I blew a fuse!
So tomorrow he'll need to go buy fuses.

I'm tired tonight! We need to start getting to bed earlier. These night owls are having a hard time getting up in the morning.

That's great, Manna! I was afraid you were losing all of that space and land. It's awesome to own your own home!

AK .. I hope you can get your mom to eat a little here and a little there, plus the smoothies.

Hiker .. thinking of you ..

I didn't do a whole lot today. My stomach was on the blink since yesterday at lunch. Not sure what did it .. maybe just a bad MCAS day.

I did go out to buy stamps so I can send more cards to people in our congregation. Some are still not able to attend.

I took a nap and then later in the evening I fell asleep again, so I guess I needed it.

I hope I can sleep tonight. Getting up in the morning to work on shoeboxes at church.

I neglected my plants today. I need to get out there and water them when I get home from church. I hope they make it that long! lol

We had a cool front come through and it blew everything around on my balcony yesterday.

OK .. signing off!!

heading the hour back to the hospital now. Not sure when dad will be moved to the nursing home.

Hospital is big so I got a lot of exercise walking yesterday.

Super about your own place, Manna.

Great news today at my GP appointment. My labs were good and she told me the wonderful news that I'm not longer in the obese category. She said I was normal. I felt like crying and dancing at the same time!

We talked quite awhile about ways to maintain my weight and maybe lose a bit more or gain muscle.

So since I recovered from all my intense yard work the plan is to start my workout DVDs again. She recommended walking but said yard work is a good form of exercise too.

Other than that I've just been caring for Mom and trying to get her to eat more. Her BFF brought some easy to eat Okinawan food that she enjoyed.

Manna congratulations on the purchase of your own home! I'd be excited too! How wonderful that your family came to help out.

TuTu it's a cool drippy day here perfect for napping. Soon as my Mom heads back to her room I might stretch out on the couch and catch a snooze.

Hiker take care of yourself! Sure hope things are going to work out for your Dad. How's your Mom doing?

Later gang!

AK .. there is no way you were in the obese category. I was barely over the edge during COVID and you weigh about 20 pounds less than I do.

So happy that your mom is feeling better! I hope she will feel more like eating soon.

I had a Dr tele-visit on Monday and my thyroid is doing much better. He raised my dosage by 1/3 back in June and I feel so much better!

I have more energy and I've lost a few more pounds.

Manna .. when do you have to be out?

hiker .. I hope things are going better today at the hospital.

PS .. I cleaned both bathrooms and mopped one bathroom floor. I love my Norwex stuff for cleaning!!

We are moving next weekend. We're getting two trailers in Thursday, so we can start packing them up ahead of time. Hopefully we can be done packing up around noon on Friday and then head out. We have a 5 hour drive.

Both our families are helping with the move. Several of the nephews and brothers / BIL's are pulling trailers. They'll all help unload and unpack too.

I'm so ready to be unpacked and settled in our own home. I miss my sewing machine - its been packed up since the latter part of July.

This weekend the children are going down to the property to clean the house and do some painting. Friends & cousins are also going to fix up the old summer kitchen so we have a place to put our chest freezers.

Today we loaded a trailer with some of the things they'll need this weekend. Sending my big peach tree along, daughter's blueberry bush, and sonny's lemon tree - it even has some lemons on it!

I'm tired tonight. Want to get to bed earlier for a change!

Oh yes, I washed all the bedding today. It dried very nice in the wind and now they can each put their clean bedding back on their bed tonight. All the rest of the bedding is packed up!

Also washed the kitchen carpets - two are braided rag rugs that were given as wedding gifts.

Manna-How far is your new home from where you live now? Moving is always such a big task. Plus you have all your animals and all your trees in pots!

I spent the day again at the hospital with my dad navigating medical bureaucracy. He was much calmer today and had his sense of humor although he still has severe dementia and that’s only going to get worse.

God was good and provided a room for now in the nursing home that attaches to my parents retirement center. Hospice originally said they wouldn’t be able to admit him for 10 days and he couldn’t be discharged without it. But a last minute cancellation for tomorrow got him into hospice. So sometime tomorrow he will go to the nursing home. I pray the new surroundings don’t agitate him again.

Even with his dementia he still has his sense of humor. He asked when I was leaving because he needed to get some money. And so I suggested we go rob a bank together and he thought that was a fine idea. LOL

So I’m staying in the hotel again tonight and will go to the hospital one more time tomorrow to make sure all the discharge happens properly and that they get him shaved before he goes to the nursing home. I need to make contact with the nursing home and find out how much my parents are going to have to pay out-of-pocket. And that sum of money is going to be quite a lot.

Since it is a large hospital and I did some walking around I will consider that my exercise. Again tonight I walked from the hotel over to Perkins and picked up a meal of scrambled eggs bacon, breakfast potatoes and a slice of French silk pie.

My adrenaline has just been flowing the past few days and I’ve been unable to sleep so I’m praying that I can just unwind and get a good nights sleep tonight. And I know that tomorrow night I will be in my own bed again.

Picked up sticks and limbs in the yard and trimmed the bushes for exercise today. Yard guy came out and cut the grass and did the weed eating.

My Mom felt better today so she took a shower and we sat outside on the porch drinking coffee and watching the hummingbirds for over an hour.

TuTu glad to hear your thyroid med is helping. I sure could use more energy about now.

Manna sure sounds like a big job getting moved out and into your new home! Thank goodness you have plenty of help!

Hiker was very touched reading about your Dad keeping up his sense of humor. Will you be able to go to the nursing home with him to get settled in? Praying for you and your folks!

See everyone tomorrow!

Hiker, our new home is 4 hours west and 1 hour south of where we are now.

This evening the boys and Hubby were out in the shop loading up the one vehicle that is going on a trailer. They filled it with shop stuff. And when they get it on the trailer, they will fill the drivers seat too!

Hiker, I hope you can unwind and sleep good tonight. So nice when their sense of humor shows through.

Ak, glad your mom felt good enough to sit outside for awhile. Sometimes being outside just feels healing.

Lymetoo, so good to hear your thyroid is better! Nice to have more energy.

I'm hoping after we are settled in my energy will pick up. I know a move is exhausting even with all the excitement about it.

Two of the children's last day at work was today. Daughter said it felt funny, just like a regular work day but everyone was saying "bye, I will miss you".

Took my Mom to make one of her monthly payments. It wore her out but she said she was glad to go out.

Manna is your family happy to be moving? Hope you all get settled in soon!

Off to watch some TV.

Today was day #4 at the hospital with my dad. He had a rough night. He was so calm yesterday they took the cameras off him to make sure he would be ok to be discharged today. He got out of bed and fell. So, he will not be able to be discharged until he can be calm and not get out of bed.

I came home this afternoon and went grocery shopping, did a load of laundry and repacked my emergency overnight bag, took a long nap and then filled out a gadzillion forms for the nursing home.

I am ready for bed again.

AK .. Glad your mom enjoyed the outing! It will help if she will keep trying to go what she can. (but not overdo, of course)

Manna .. I hope your new place is awesome!!

Hiker .. I hope tonight is a better night for you and your dad. How is your mom holding up?

I went to the nearby city to get some thread a lady was selling for her father-in-law. She is in charge of clearing out his house because he can no longer stay there alone.

I will probably never have to buy thread again. LOL... Not sure how many I have, but it's a lot. Also got some lace and ribbon.

The downside is that it smells gross. I hope it will air out in a few weeks. I don't know if it's from Glade plug-ins or what, but yuck.

I knew I might have trouble with that, but I figured whatever might be a problem would probably air out after awhile.

I wish it was still hot outside because that would help.

I stopped by Mardel's and got some crosses and other cute items we can put in the boxes. I am stringing 50 of them tonight. They only cost about $0.25 each but are really colorful.

See you tomorrow, everyone!

Not doing to much today. I can't seem to get back on the exercise wagon lately. I think I'm going to do as my doctor suggested and start walking since I won't go to my gym. I have to drive to a park but that might be OK since I'm not driving as much as I usually do.

Hiker my heart goes out to you and your Dad. Was glad to hear that you went home and got some of your own things taken care of and was able to rest. Caring for elderly parents can be tiring and stressful.

TuTu ugh, I can't stand plugins! They had one at the place me and Mom stayed at in Atlanta. I had to unplug it and wrap it in a bag and I stuck it in a drawer. Opened the windows all day and night and ran the ceiling fan. Hope all the items you scored will air out nicely.

Well....back to watching public broadcasting with Mom.

AK—only exercise I have gotten is roaming through the hospital this week. Will try and do a bit tomorrow.

I worked on paper work for the nursing home when dad gets discharged. I had to do that from my house as I needed to print and scan so did not drive to visit my dad.

The nurse practitioner and case manager said he probably would not be discharged this weekend. They are giving 2 doses of calming medicine now in hopes of reducing his agitation and keeping him in bed so he does not fall.

Went to the chiropractor.

Made a lot of phone calls trying to get support for my mom. She is so private and her friends don’t know what is going on.

Also trying to get retirement support gals to help her sign contract with an agency that will go buy some pjs for dad. I told mom and the gals 5 sets and got an email saying they were getting 3 sets. I about lost it with the gal and I called the CEO of the retirement center and left a polite but terse voicemail.

I am eating leftovers for dinner and catching up on crossword puzzles in the newspapers tonight.

Today I did the barn chores as all the children went to the new house to clean & paint. It went well this morning and I thought it did this evening also.

After the chores Hubby and I went away to pick up some free replacement windows. When we got back, it was dark, and as I came around the vehicle - here comes a goat!!

They broke a window last week and daughter fixed it temporarily. Well, the goat pushed out the temporary window and hopped out again. So I put her back in and got a big piece of plywood to cover up the window completely.

I also found where the chickens are laying their eggs! In the kid pen, which is inside the goat pen. No wonder sonny thought the chickens stopped laying. He was only finding 1 or 2 eggs. I got 14 tonight!

Sis-in-law came up and helped pack stuff up today. My nephew came along and finished wrapping up all the empty canning jars in newspaper. He said it was fun!

Clever chickens, manna. Haha .. they didn't like their eggs being stolen each day!

Hiker .. I hope your dad does well over the weekend and will be ready to go to the facility soon. Try to rest up. That's aggravating about the pajamas. SIGH.

AK ..Walking is a good idea. I forgot to ask my doctor if it would be a good thing or a negative thing to do some extra walking. My hip yells at me from time to time each day and I don't know how hard to push my luck.

I'm just seeing that winter will be here soon and this weather is AWESOME!

I went across town to the other pharmacy to pick up my thyroid med. I'm a little worried that now the only "natural" thyroid med is Armour.

I think the NP was working GREAT and they now quit making it. I take three a day and I think I will take ONE of the remaining NP's each day with 2 Armour.

I fear that the Armour by itself will put me back to square one.

I also did a little grocery shopping.

Did my balance exercises today.

Did a load of laundry.

Went to library.

Spent a lot of time on the phone setting up things for dad.

Will head to hospital tomorrow.

My mom is a mess. Say prayers for her. She isn’t coping at slow and I fear she may go downhill very quickly.

Reading and watching tv tonight.
