Imagine someone standing in a pedestrian crosswalk with a speeding vehicle coming straight toward them. They stand there saying "I'm in the right!" but then get run over. That's how I see those who refuse to wear a mask, saying it's their right. So what? Let's stay alive.

Almost all religions have a version of "Love they neighbor..." so wearing a mask during this horrible epidemic is kind of imperative, right? Even agnostics and atheists would agree with that, I am sure.
So do it! Wear a mask when you go anywhere, even walking your dog as you could need it in any emergency.
Ignorance is NOT bliss! In an epidemic it can mean death!

I found out my adult kids went out with a group and they all SHARED A DRINK and 2 days later that person's drink they shared had COVID.

Maybe the person with the drink to share contracted covid later on in the evening - some time after people shared the drink?
I hope your not-so-adult kids learned a lesson about the risk of gathering in groups. They were very lucky. I hope they have all been tested again, as tests are not 100% accurate.

ANN- maybe you are right, but IDK... his mom had covid at the same time. my kids knowing that and still drank from his drink!
I raised them better than that!!!!!!!!!!!!

one of them didn't get tested. her work told her not to ebcaseu they wanted her to NOT miss work!

In 5 years from now you will look back & admit that you spent an entire year of your life wearing a mask, cooped up in your house & avoiding all the people you love. A year in your life that you’ll never get back.
And let me say this, I am not saying this virus isn’t real, or that there aren’t people that could really be affected. If you’re at risk, take precautions, absolutely.
Every single day is a risk. Car accident, flu... our days were numbered before this. That has not changed. BUT, we should not be forced to live in fear.
We went from being a free nation to being told we couldn’t go to school, couldn’t go to church, couldn’t go to our grandma’s house, couldn’t pay respects to a loved one through a funeral.... and when we were allowed to do these things, we were told how long we could be there, how far apart we have to be, what to wear...
Yes, our health matters. But you know what else matters? Family. Friends. Church. School dances. Football games. County fairs. Family vacations. Neighborhood BBQs. Life.
One day, you’ll hug your grandma, mom, dad, brother for the last time. One day, your best friend will cry on your shoulder for the last time. One day, your son will play his last football game.
One day, your daughter will wear her last prom dress. One day, they’ll have their last day of school. One day, you’ll spend your last day laughing with a loved one. One day, you’ll dance your last dance. Don’t waste the days you have by living in fear. 🖤
Your time here on earth matters & God didn’t put us here to be afraid of everything He’s blessed us with.
Live your life while you have the chance. God is gonna call you home when it’s your time. Virus or no virus.

I had to go back on anxiety meds because of this pandemic, not to mention having Lyme and Bart and suffering from anxiety and depression on top of that was mounting.
However, last week I took a leap of faith and it is helping....I accepted a job offer. I've been on SSDI for over 10 years and had a part time job briefly in the past. This current job is full-time and pretty much what I just graduated from school from. I am getting out of the house, meeting new people and my anxiety has simmered. My family has even noticed.
Am I afraid of Covid? No, but of course I won't be stupid. We take all the precautions required and more ( its in a medical facility) I feel safe. I refuse to stay home and be a hermit. That only will do more damage. I have worked only 1 week and I can already feel a change. My rage and paranoia is settling down too.

Over 285,000 people died- a lot of them believing they shouldn't waste their time on protecting others and themselves by wearing a mask and avoiding group gatherings, but preferred to do whatever made them happy.
Consider how many never thought they would die alone in a hospital cared by nurses and doctors and staff who were totally overwhelmed and worn out, running out of beds and equipment to care for the flood of people who weren't careful, - or people who had to deal with those who weren't careful.
How many of those caregivers are risking their lives and don't have the luxury to even think about "Family. Friends. Church. School dances. Football games. County fairs. Family vacations. Neighborhood BBQs. Life." like the author of that post has ??
If you wear a mask, stay out of groups, wash your hands and behave as though you care for other people's lives, -such simple things for most of us to do- you will make sure lots of people besides yourself will survive this epidemic.
I am very happy Mountainsky has a job where she can be safe and help others. I am sure her fellow workers appreciate her, too.

Lymetoo-I have to respectfully disagree with part of what you copied and pasted. The part that says “if you are at risk, take precautions, absolutely.”
We ALL are at risk. And we all risk spreading the virus. We could be asymptomatic. So, EVERYONE needs to take precautions.
Do you wear a seatbelt like the government tells you to?
Do you drive on the correct side of the road like the law says to protect others? Would you put your child in child-seat in the car to protect them like the government says? My guess is the answer would be “Yes.” Do you consider those laws a restriction on your freedom?
That doesn’t mean we have to live in fear but I want to keep my elderly mother safe even if it means I don’t see her often.
I want my friends and fellow church members to be safe.
This pandemic is crazy but if you look at certain countries in Europe and Asia along with New Zealand, and Australia where the laws have been even tighter than here in the USA, you find they have fewer cases per 100,000 and fewer deaths per 100,000. And their economy is better.
Far better to give up a few things for a little while than to lose loved ones to Covid needlessly.
This pandemic will not last forever, but while it is here it is not a burden to socially distance, wear a mask, and wash my hands frequently.
I know, Lymetoo, that you take precautions. I just disagree with what you copied and pasted.

I just talked with a friend of mine who was very iffy on wearing a mask. She's in her 60's and has infected her 90 YO mother, 60 YO brother, and possibly her daughter and grandson. Her Mom is going in for a transfusion with Covid antibodies tomorrow. I hope and pray they survive!
Everyone in my immediate family has been infected except me and my 89 YO mother.
God help us!

Akinwlf, I am so glad you are being supportive for your friend and all her family! That is such a good example of what is happening everywhere. I know several similar cases in my area.
And it will surely happen more with the new and more contagious version of the virus spreading across the country.
Please, everyone just wear a mask, keep your distance - 6 ft. - stay home if you can and wash your hands thoroughly and often.
Such simple precautions and very easy to do to avoid illness and death.

whenever I see someone out in public, whether it's on the street or working in a store, who is wearing a mask over their mouth but beneath their nose, I just want to stamp the word "half-ass" on their forehead.
I don't get the point of wearing a mask in an ineffective way.

Just remember if you are lucky enough to get the vaccination, even after the second shot it takes your immune system some time to get up to speed and protect you
And there are 2, maybe more, new strains of the virus now, which you can carry and pass on to others even after you are vaccinated.
They are pretty sure the vaccination we have will protect us against those strains.
So we will have to wear our masks and keep our distance until we are all sure we are safe to be together.

Realistically I figure my mask wearing will be my protocol for the next year or two. There's too many asymptomatic people and non-compliant people in the population.
The vaccine does not stop you from contacting Covid. It helps your body produce antibodies so the virus isn't as deadly. There is no data as to whether vaccinated people can still transmit Covid.
They are easing restrictions so that vaccinated people can be around other vaccinated people safely. Yet there are reports of vaccinated people being hospitalized with COVID.
