Hello. I've come to learn about therapists (psychologists) who specialize in working with clients with chronic pain and their spouses. It seems to be a specialty that I was unaware of.
I can't seem to find any when googling.
Does anyone have any referrals? In the virtual world they can be located anywhere, although the DC area would be preferred, but not required.
Thanks, Ben

I would suggest contacting the local Washington DC support group for suggestions for therapists who have experience with Lyme patients/chronic illness or pain patients and their families. https://natcaplyme.org/support-groups/#washington-dc
It was the case until recently that even with telehealth or virtual visits the therapist had to be licensed in the state of the patient. At some point during Covid, with people moving out of cities, insurance
companies relaxed this rule. But I wouldn't assume that it is necessarily ok now. Otherwise, the therapist could risk loosing their license.
In Psychology Today online, therapists have ads. However, it is always preferable to get referrals from someone who knows the therapist or their reputation.
I know of two or three therapists who work with Lyme patients/families. However, 2 are in NY, and one is in MA.
Going to a Lyme Support Group meeting would be ideal, as you could connect with other patients and their families. The groups are mostly virtual right now.
