Guess Lymenet was down for a few days. I missed hearing about your daily activities.
I have been keeping to my usual exercise routine with knee and feet exercises some days and balance, shoulder, and feet exercises other days.
It has been dry here, so I have been watering the flowers. My asters and sedum as well as the marigolds look fantastic.
I paid a quick visit to my mom on Friday. As I was driving through her town to get gas for the car, two cars collided right in front of me. I stayed until the police came after making sure everyone was okay. So, my hour journey home turned into two hours.
I have 3 loads of laundry this weekend. Got out a light weight blanket for my bed. I have now washed up all my shorts and just need to put them away.
Watched our church service this morning.
Went to recycling.
Then, chatted with mom
My BFF came over to sit on the porch and chat. She brought her super good binoculars and I got clear views of flycatchers and warblers zipping around.
Am watching some football and will settle on the couch with a Scott Turow novel called “Suspect” tonight.

Yeh, LymeNet is running 😀
Started chicken, vegetables and herbs soup in crockpot this morning. It smelled so good.
I worked out with 1 lb weights while I watched the football game. I used to use 5 lb weights but man they felt so HEAVY today, no way! Afterwards I laid on exercise ball to stretch my back.
Took dog for walk.
Vacuumed 2 rooms. I took vacuum filter outside to clean it. It was pretty dirty. It was breezy outside so atleast I didn’t breathe in the particles.
I put up some fall decorations inside and tomorrow I will put some outside. My maple trees are starting to turn gold, yellow, red and orange. They are beautiful trees. 🍁🍁🍁🍁🍁

Did my knee and feet exercises.
Drove to local newspaper to cancel my paper delivery. Paper has shriveled to nothing and when they took out my puzzles and half the cartoons, that was it for me.
Worked on Bible study.
Called mom and she told me her Medicare Advantage plan is changing in the new year. The biggest hospital and all her mds in her area do not take the new insurance. Am having trouble getting info on out of network costs. Her clinic has the only geriatric MDs in the area. Argh! Can’t believe the state retirement system did this and that Aetna and my mom’s hospital can’t come to a contract agreement.
So, I went outside to do yardwork while being on hold with the hospital, Aetna and the State retirement system. Got a lot of yardwork done. Lol
Am exhausted and have a headache, so just relaxing tonight.

Glad Lymenet is back up and running! I went through some serious withdrawal symptoms!
Friday-Mexican dinner with friend and outdoor concert. It was an Eagles tribute band so of course I'm up and bouncing around on the dance floor. Tweaked my neck and hip so had to medicate but I'm sure I wasn't the only one that was sore. So many of us older folks were there.
Saturday was laundry, shopping and Josh for dinner day. Mom made pork curry so I didn't even cook!
Sunday took Mom to the dollar store and Michael's for wrapping paper and I was looking for water resistant fabric. No luck for me.
Today was errand day for me. Found out Josh didn't go to work. He has a fever and cough. Might be Covid and hope Mom doesn't get it. I did some shopping for him and bought his lunch and dropped it off. His fever was 101.6 the last time he texted me. Hope we'll be OK.
BB I'm only using 3 lb weights just for a couple of shoulder PT exercises. Tried 5 but my shoulder had a fit...so back down to 3. I would so love to plant a Japanese maple in our yard. Josh has one and it's so beautiful.
Hiker some of those Medicare Advantage plans don't have an advantage. Anyone with an insurance license can sell them and my Mom's friend bought one and can't see her GP anymore. I think she was taken 'advantage of....oh, there's the advantage!
Time to unwind and read a bit. Night all!

AK--Josh can't seem to catch a break with Covid. Bet he gets exposed a lot teaching.
Got up early to make phone calls to Medicare and Aetna. Aetna told me that they wouldn't have the member benefits for mom's new plan available until midDecember. But that is past the deadline if I want to unenroll her and find a different plan. I can't believe they couldn't answer my basic questions.
Did my balance and feet exercises as well as my shoulder stretches.
Watered the flowers.
Talked to my junior high P.E. teacher who lives in mom's town in a different retirement center. She is in the same boat as mom with the insurance change. Illinois used to give a choice of medicare advantage plans and now they only have the one option that mom's hospital and mds won't take unless something changes.
Emailed my state legislators last night to get them to push on the big hospital to negotiate with Aetna. Got an email response from the woman Democrat but no the male Republican. Hmm.
The owner of the upholstery shop who is going to recover my couch came over with the fabric to make sure it matched the other items in the LR and he measured the couch. Bet the job costs almost as much as a new couch, but I love my couch. So many have the seats too high that my feet dangle.
Took a short nap.
Off to fix dinner and then head to church.

hiker- navigating Medicare plans is unbearably painful. The more people you talk to, the more different answers you will get.
I decorated outside house with scarecrows like everyone else. My scarecrows have seen better days but they look authentic.
Exercised with resistance bands. One has a foot pedal attached and gives quite a workout. It does pull on your back while working the arms, biceps and pictorials. Hope my back pain doesn’t get aggravated.
Took dog for walk.
Went and got a haircut with 5.00 coupon off, sweet. Stylist got a bigger tip, she did a great job.
Picked up script, went for coffee and dollar store for cleaning supplies. I’m pretty well stocked up.
Washed all the outside seat cushions and hung to dry.
No cooking today, heated up soup and other leftovers.

Missed you all while Lymenet was down.
Today washed two blankets & hung them out. Also a load of table cloths.
Picked the tomatoes that were turning colors and the last few zucchini and summer squash.
Took a 5 gallon bucket to the tomatoes and picked the green ones. Have a bit more than half full of green tomatoes. Found a French Tomato Pickle recipe made with green tomatoes that looks good. I want to try it since we didn't get as many pickles as we were hoping for this year.
Daughter had planted gourds. She got probably a bushel and a half of a mixture of gourds. She's planning to sell some at the store.
Oldest son cut the sunflower heads and brought them in. Have a milk crate full. We'll save those for the birds this winter.
Got all the small geraniums that I started from seed this spring transplanted into pots to bring inside over winter.
This morning the boys locked the keys in the car with it running, before they left for work. Finally sent two of them in another vehicle while Hubby helped the other son unlock the car. No spare key so had to use a wire hanger to unlock it. Got it accomplished about 10 minutes after the others left.

Up early to go to a real estate attorney, picked up breakfast and me and Mom ate at home.
Sat with Ms H then off to the local planetarium for classical music and an accompanying art display on the dome. Had a friend meet me there and we enjoyed the wine and hors d'oeuvres before the show.
Home to cook a quick dinner of spam, eggs and rice for me and Mom.
Now I'm just chilling...at last.
Manna you guys are busy! That green tomato pickle recipe sounds interesting. Is it like a relish?
BB just last week I reversed our outdoor cushion covers. The more colorful one is for late spring/summer and the mostly green side is fall and winter. Me and my Mom made them as one of our many Covid projects.
Hiker there are 6 teachers out at Josh's school and I don't know how many students. His co-teacher is out also and they don't have enough subs. We're waiting to find out if it's Covid again. Needless to say we won't see him this weekend.
Time to read and have a nice cup of peppermint tea.

Ak, no, this one is called French Tomato Pickle (old). You slice them, I used my food processer, put salt on them and let set overnight. Drain and soak in a weak vinegar solution for 15 minutes. Drain again. Then boil the syrup which gets a nice amount of spices, dry mustard, curry, tumeric, cinnamon, cloves & allspice. Add the tomatoes and onions and simmer 3 minutes. Pack in jars & seal.
It is simple enough and I like the different spices. Maybe it will become a family favorite.... or maybe we won't like them!
Your peppermint tea sounds good. I think I shall have a cup also! I have tea leaves in the food dryer right now so we have plenty for this winter!

Manna--French Tomato Pickle sounds good.
Went grocery shopping. Unpackaged the pork chops and chicken breasts and put them in individual bags for the freezer. I like the buy one package get one free sales!
Made chicken salad for lunch.
Did my knee and feet exercises.
Chatted with mom for almost an hour.
Worked on Bible study.
Called a couple of tree trimming companies to get estimates for my enormous sweet gum tree. It needs a lot of trimming and needs to be shaped. Big branches hang into my neighbor's yard and I bet they don't appreciate the leaves in autumn. One company coming out tomorrow afternoon. Goodbye $$.
Fixing pork chop, broccoli and tossed salad for dinner.

This morning I chopped down my 9 sunflower trees, measured at 12 foot high!! I used tree branch loopers, cut off in 3 foot sections, loaded them onto my wagon and walked to end of property and threw over fence. Maybe they might come up next year wild.
I saved 5 heads full of seeds but haven’t decided what to do with them.
Gave the dog a bath then I took a LONG HOT shower to soothe muscles.
Sat on the porch in my rocking chair to read but had to come back inside due to an invasion of boxerelder flying beetles. Hundreds of them. I sprayed them with tick repellent (only thing I had) and they became paralyzed. A few hours later, they were all gone BUT no dead bodies?
I’m on.a resistance band kick, they are so convenient. I pick them up and do 5 minute intervals. I did wake up sore, mainly in between shoulder blades and upper arm muscles.
Brushed all animals outside.
Made a homemade birthday card for a family member. Took me 2 hours but it’s quite funny and colorful.
Can believe it’s already October. 2022 is flying by.

Canned my French Tomato pickles this morning. All the jars sealed.
Peeled apples and filled the food sryer a second time with apples. Had tea leaves in the smaller dryer. Want to fill it with herbs we grew this summer. Brought basil in to start with.
Neighbor sent a text saying he wants to plow our garden on Monday. That means we need to get all the last things out this weekend.
Baked an apple cake and daughter made the glaze for the top. Had haystakes for supper.
Gabbed with 2 sis-in-laws today.

Hiker I got an estimate on tree trimming for $1200 and they're not really trees. The guy said they were weeds and shrubs! Hard to believe so I'm holding off on that.
BB I've got to start exercising! All I seem to manage is my PT and helping Mom with hers and sometimes Mrs H too. I'm in a funk. 😕
Ran alot of errands and the same for tomorrow before sitting with Mrs H. Taking food, etc. to Josh almost every day. He's going to be out the rest of the week. Still no news if he's positive for Covid.
Time to read before bed. Night gang!

AK--Your estimate for tree trimming is a lot higher than mine. I feel bad that my tree is growing into my neighbor's maple tree as it reaches over my fence, so I do need to get it trimmed.
So, I did get one estimate on trimming the trees today. Am waiting on another one, but when I called the guy yesterday he said to text him all my info and then he never got back to me. I will give him a few more days. The other company I called yesterday came out this morning.
I did my balance and feet exercises.
Then I had Bible study with my women's group. We are studying 1 Samuel.
Mom called twice confused about the new grocery shopping agency we are setting up for her and confused about the new Medicare plan. I keep explaining every day over and over, but she doesn't understand. Make me so sad. Just pray she doesn't try to cancel the new Medicare plan!
Yapped with my neighbor for a long time. 75 and sunny out today, so a good day to be outside for a chat.
Filled the bird feeders.
Ran a quick errand for supplements.
I did spend a lot of time today on Nextdoor educating others about the school tax referendum that will be on the ballot.
I will have a repeat of last night's dinners. Thank goodness for leftovers!
Tonight, there is a debate between our two gubernatorial candidates at our town's university and it will be televised. So, I think I will watch that.

Yesterday I went to visit my friend. I took lunch to her, then took her back to town so she could buy some pants that actually fit. Her son picked her up afterwards.
Today has been weird. Had to drive our cars down the hill early this morning because they are sealing the asphalt in the parking lots and on the hill.
I can't walk up the hill, so I had to get a ride back up. Then later we asked someone to come get us so we could go to the bank.
Did that, then came home and took a nap. LOL. Why not? Now I'm washing clothes.
My husband worried about his car because it's outside the gate, so he went to get it about 5pm. Someone else took him back up the hill.
It was his first time to walk down the hill and he said it was really hard. He has asthma, so I'm sure it was very hard. He knew he couldn't go UP the hill.
So hopefully tomorrow will be a more normal day. I had to miss exercise because it was just too much hassle to go out again.
Maybe I can go at 7 a.m. tomorrow. Not my favorite time of day to do that.
----
PS . . They use a golf cart vehicle to transport everyone.
PSPS .. Hiker, is there any way to put a safeguard on that Medicare account so she can't close it?

Tutu—I would love to put a safeguard on the new Medicare insurance but she doesn’t even have her policy numbers, yet, so I can’t do anything with healthcare power of attorney.
It is a policy for state retirees that takes effect January 1. But you can opt out by November 30. I am not sure she can do it or if I can do it if needed or if it has to be my brother who who is POA for finance and has power of the state retirement account. But at this time we don’t want to opt out because then we need to find other insurance which would be very expensive.
This just comes at an awful time. So complicated and I don’t have all the details. The details are being mailed to her. I can’t get them mailed to me, yet. I tried. She has to have the policy numbers first and then I have to send my POA for health care to Aetna like I did for United Health Care. Took 3 months for me to get that for United Health Care. Now I have to wait for Aetna to take effect.
Your hill sounds like a nightmare.

Up early and went to lawyer to pick up new deed. Didn't realize they'd hand me the invoice so going back tomorrow with a check.
Gassed up car and picked up Mom's meds at Ft. Benning then home to make a quickie breakfast for the two of us then sat with Mrs H from 11-4.
Made myself a burger for dinner then watered potted plants and lawn. Made Mom an egg sandwich for her dinner just a little while ago. She had a big lunch with her bestie today.
Just finished her PT and now I can rest.
Hiker the estimate was for 4 tree bushes. They're about 25-30 feet high. One tree bush was on the neighbor's roof enmeshed in a powerline. I think that's why it was so expensive. Really just need the 3 cut down. I'm calling another tree service though.
TuTu I agree that's way to expensive for those tree bushes. Some in the backyard are boxwoods. I had no idea they could grow so high. At least they're not pushing on the fence. I saw an oak tree that was an it'll have to be cut down too. All of these are in the neighbor's yard pushing our chain link fence down.
Very tempted to cut some down myself. I used a chainsaw in AK but that was before my accident and 3 left arm surgeries. Knowing me I'd end up in the ER and have to go through PT for another injury. Think I'll stick with a tree service.
Working 4 hours tomorrow and then stopping by Josh's with a pizza later. Oh! He's negative for Covid but positive for Flu A. So I'm sitting outside to eat and he'll be in the kitchen and we can chat through the door. Sure don't want me or Mom to get the flu.
OK my friends it's time to do some serious vegging!

BB--Do you have bird feeders? You could use the sunflowers seeds there (and the squirrels will love you!)
AK--I have heard that this year's flu is pretty bad, but its long term effects aren't like Covid! Hope Josh feels better soon and you and your mom avoid it.
Did my knee and feet exercises.
Worked on Bible study for several hours. The video that goes with each week's study is almost an hour long. Plus I have the written work.
Called a company to get an estimate on blowing in insulation in my attic. I know I need more but have never liked a tight house. However, with gas going up I think it might be wise.
Called mom.
Did a lot of research on Medicare Advantage Plans. Mom's new plan would be the best if only her town's hospital and Md's would sign a contract for it. I just have to wait a bit to see what happens but want to be prepared if a new plan is needed.
Went to the library and came home with 4 books.
Started reading one of them. I just finished a historical book called "The Mosquito Bowl." It focused on some very good college and pro football players that joined the Marines and fought at Okinawa. I learned a lot. One of my uncles was a Marine there in WW11.
Plan to be a vegetable tonight on the couch.

hiker-I have chestnut trees and black walnut trees and probably 10 generations of squirrels. I don’t have a bird feeder because of the dreaded squirrels.
ak- what’s up with everyone needing tree trimmers, lol? I’ve had 2 trees down for the past 3 months and no one calls me back. My neighbor just had her huge tree chopped down for 3,500 dollars and gave me their number, I will not be calling them.
I did too much yard work 2 days ago. Allergies, sinus and ears troubles have made me horizontal. I never learn. I love Fall but I suffer so.
No exercise unfortunately. I did walk the dog.
Went to dentist for jaw pain. Need 3 fillings and a root canal on a molar. I’m missing a molar on the other side so I really need to save this tooth for chewing. But I don’t want invasive root canal. Have a week till my next appointment to decide. Also, no dental insurance.
Made veg beef soup. It’s my favorite. Pairing it with blueberry pie.

Finished collecting any food stuff from the garden today. The neighbor plows it on Monday.
Did the washing and hung it all out. Then it clouded up and looked more and more like it could rain. So brought it all back in and putting it through the dryer.
Need to refill the food dryer with apples. They are a favorite snack at our house.

Made it to the lawyers again then went to Sam's and noshed on their 4 berry sundae and picked up 2 hotdogs for me and Mrs H.
Got home around 4:30 and gabbed with Mom before picking up pizza and heading to Josh's. Great visit!
2 rounds of PT for Mom and 1 for me. Did dishes and that's it.
I'm glad its Friday and I can sleep in. Busy day tomorrow with friend coming for dinner then we're headed to the theater to see the 50th anniversary performance of Jesus Christ Superstar. Saw the original and the 25th anniversary performance in AK.
I'm super excited!
Hiker interesting book there. Might have to check it out. So glad I don't have to deal with Mom's health insurance. Good luck sorting through the miasma of Medicare advantage plans.
BB I'm in the same boat as you in regards to teeth. I recently signed up for dental insurance and pay around $40 a month for dental and vision. Unfortunately my dentist is out of network and they only pay 20%. I've had a little over $2,000 in fillings/etc and will pay another $1,500 in January for a build up and crown on my back molar. I'm trying to save my teeth but I've chipped one already that was fixed earlier this year and one that was filled is badly cracked and might not last to long. With mast cell issues I don't think I can have a root canal done. Hope your toofies are OK.
Manna you are busy as a bee! Dried apples are so good!
Well guys...I'm beat but am going to try and watch a movie. Night!

Bonnie--I put up some bird feeder poles (like you hang flowers on) and put a slinky on them. The squirrels can't get up the pole then, but you have to make sure they can't jump from a nearby tree.
AK--I can't believe I have never seen Jesus Christ Superstar. Enjoy the show.
Beautiful autumn day here. The leaves are finally starting to change color, but due to the drought they won't be as pretty as they could be.
I did a load of laundry.
I did my balance exercises, feet exercises, and shoulder stretches.
Worked on Bible study.
Made a healthy lunch of baked salmon, asparagus and sweet potato.
I grabbed my trekking poles and went for a short walk this afternoon.
Tonight, I will read and watch the Illini vs. Iowa Hawkeyes football game.
But first, dinner. I defrosted the last of my spaghetti sauce to go over rice noodles. Will steam green beans and make a tossed salad. I have a few blackberries, too.

Spent a good portion of the day outside... bringing things in before the frost tomorrow morning.
One of the boys went out and collected all the watermelons, pumpkins, gourds, etc that were still out there. I picked the Glass Gems corn. Its a colorful ear of corn. They say you can pop it or make corn meal out of it. We're going to use some to decorate first!
Brought tea and herbs in and filled the food dryers. Filled the crockpot with apples for apple butter. It can slow cook all night and tomorrow if need be.
Brought in both Christmas cactus plants and the boys put the big pots out in the greenhouse. Put several plants up on the front porch where they'll be protected. It's south facing, so keeps it a warmer longer.
Put the bigger chicks in the old guinea pen. Sonny helped put purple bands on their legs so we know which are the younger ones when we put them in with the 'old' chickens. The divided up the youngest chicks and moved some into where the older chicks had been. Now they all have more room.
Moved most of my African violets in to my sink window to make room for all the other plants that still need to come in.
I'm beat! Ready for a nice warm shower and my bed.. oh dear! I forgot! Was going to put flannel sheets on our bed today. Guess I will if its going to get cold.
