Not so rare - it has been a threat for years - and lots of people never get diagnosed , tested, or treated as symptoms can be missed - and no mention that it can be fatal for people whose spleen has been removed
I really wish they would get those CDC reported case numbers right! 30,000-476,000 -300,00 -35,000 all in the same article!

one theory is that its really Babesia Odocoilei (a species associated with deer in the USA) that is really the one causing much of the persistent disease in people.
Deer populations in the USA have quadrupled in recent decades - hence the increase in Babesia
Dr Lindner - presented to ILADs on it T-Labs have developed a FISH test for it
most existing tests look for only B. Microti ( associated with rodents i think ) or B. Divergens associated with cattle
Lindner thinks these tests are missing the real problem - B. Odocoilei
