I just wanted to let you know that my Dog had a bad reaction to Advantix. He has been getting it for years with no problems.

About 10 days after application he got a lump on the back of his neck. I noticed it and I felt that there was crust on his neck.

I wiped it away and fluid came shooting out! So gross. I brought him to the vet and the aspirated it and it showed inflammation. The vet thought that it was a reaction to the Advantix.

She also said that if it wasn't getting better in 2 days he would have to have surgery to remove the Lemon sized mass.

I called the company and reported what happened and they were willing to reimbuse me for his treatment. They were really great.

It turns out the lump is healing nicely on Cephalexin and Rimadyl. I have also been warm compressing it.

It looks like no surgery for now. The company is going to pay for the Vet visit. The company was very nice and very willing to pay the bill.

They did tell me not to use the Advantix on him again, which stinks because I dont want to use Frontline because it doesnt kill ticks fast enough.

Just thought I would let you know in case something happens to your dog.

Melissa

Merrygirl,
Just wondering,,,can you have a spritz bottle of Tempo mixed up and spray him down once or twice a day. Dont know if it is fast enough acting either.

And I dont know what the residual time is!! Its really benign tho and has a smell consistant with the water your mixing it with!! My understanding is its made from Geranium flowers,,,so its like spraying your dog with a flower bouquet!!! still--just don--

Wow! That's scary! Poor doggie! I'm sorry you have to change meds for him, but happy the company will pay for his treatment.

Since I've got you on the phone- I have another question which maybe a vet tech can answer-I cannot find an expiration date on a box of Frontline which I would like to use on my dog.

It's a fairly old box, but it's a fairly old dog,too.

If it hasn't been opened, sealed in plastic-wouldn't it still be effective?

Cobweb- Frontline does not expire, so you should be all set!!!

Lymetoo- The dog in question is a Dalmation mix

I also have an english Bulldog and a Pitbull.

I have 2 cats (one is a 3 legged cat) and 2 frogs lol All but the frogs were rescued from euthanasia...
