I received a letter from the Who's Who Registery of Academic Excellence Middle School Edition.
It states that Dominic has been nominated for recognition in the 2007-2008 publication.
Has anyone heard of this? My husband said he thought it was ledgit I thought this was some kind of scam. The website looks ledgit but we all know how that works.
Dominic is a smart kid and has won awards ect. but this thing sounds too good to be true and most of the time those things that sound to good to be true usually are.
It is asking for alot of personal info on him so i am scared to fill it out.

The Who's Who is a great thing to put on a resume later. I didn't realize it started in Middle School.
When I was homeschooling my kids, I got into the Who's Who of Teachers. My daughter also was on the list in HS. You don't actually "get" anything, it's "just" an honor.
I graduated from HS in 1981 and it was around back then ... so I'm pretty sure it's legit. I believe a teacher has to nominate, so you can call the teacher who nominated him if you have uncertainties. The paperwork should tell you the teacher's name.

Thanks for the help. With everything out there now you never know.
I ran thru the questions and it never ask for personal info like social security number ect.
It was more about his grade point average, the awards he has won and what clubs he is in ect. Not once did it ask for money of any sort and it did state that you do not have to buy anything.
It didn't say the teachers name that nominated him just the school. I will call them tomorrow and asked the principal about it to see what she knows. And thank the teacher that nominated him.
I had a duh moment, my best friend is a teacher and i have 3 cousins that are teachers. I called one cousin and she said yeah it's ok, but in the end they want you to buy the book.
My best friend said it is an honor because not every student gets nominated and it is a wonderful thing to have on college apps.
Isn't it amazing how people view things differently. lol

I was in the Who's Who of American Educators also. The way they make their money [if any] is by selling copies of the publication where your data is published for the world to see.
[usually the honoree wants a copy of this! I have a copy of mine!]
If you're still doubtful, contact your son's school and/or teacher for more information. They should know whether or not it's legit.
Do you know how this group found your son's name and address??

My girls were nominated for these. Think I only bought one. After you send your info, they will probably contact you to see if you want a copy.
It takes a teacher to nominate so they have done a very good job in someone's class.
I think it would look good on a resume someday but you could also say your child was nominated without any other work. lmt

This post caught my attention concerning the Who's Who Registry of Academic Excellence. I received the initial letter for my son (he's 10 yrs old)a few weeks back and just this week, they told us it's been approved. I emailed the Who's Who and asked specifically who nominated my son. I didn't receive a response from them. I still wonder if this is legit I wonder how many students were recognized in general.
Anyway, just thought I'd chime in that this happened to us too and still wondering...

There's more than one Who's Who registry, but according to the NY Times, the one that has the most prestige is Marquis Who's Who. I think they're the oldest. Also, they don't ever ask you for money.
The Marquis Who's Who is kept annually in public libraries.
I'm currently in their Who's Who in American Women and, in the past, I was in Who's Who in American Writers and Editors.
Often, on resumes, you'll see people specifying that their who's who listing is from this publication, not from one of the others. And I agree with Dave that if anyone ever asks you for $$ be careful before you send anything.

We just found out last week that Dominic has been accepted and is up for scholarships too.
They have never asked for money and we were told by the school that they will not tell us who nominated him. Said that other parents might "speak" to the teacher about why she didn't nominate their kid. I guess I can under stand that.
The only thing the letter did tell me was that we can put a picture of Dom in the book if we pay 15.00 other wise it is just his bio.
They also state that you can purchase the book ect but you do not have to. At no time did they say you need to pay $$$ to have your child in this book.
We are extremly excited. I knew he had good grades and has won awards but when i had to figure out his GPA the school told me he has a 3.85. That floored me.
Must admit, it has helped get him back on track. He is at a new Middle school and all i hear about are girls, girls, girls...lol He is now shooting for a 4.0 this year. he admits he doesn't study, he said if I study a little bit i could be a 4.0.
Amazing i have one that never studies with a high average and i have Hannah who studies so hard for hours and is barley pulling c's.
