I hadnt stopped for groceries for nigh unto a month,,,so took a quick tour thru wally world super center last nite on way home.
You dont notice it up close,,,BUT from a distance,,,the whole store is full of sparrows.
One perch had 3 of them in one spot,then they swoop down and land someplace in the store in grocery section.
I guess they HAVE to eat also,,,but imagine buying there pecked over food,,,AND what goes in has to come out,,,someplace,,,
and last I knew never saw a potty trained sparrow yet.
I just stood there and wondered how bad it has to get before the health department gets invovled???
I ASK the check out lady. she said they cant do anything with them till the store closes and it NEVER closes.
When its cold like this they flock into the dock doors when trucks back up.
I would think they need an aggressive trapping system. and maybe some containment back where they come in!!!
I would think over night guys could stalk them back in the storage areas. I can see not running around with a BB gun in the customer areas,,,but geesh,,,enough is enough.
Best of all worlds would be live traps they could release outside for them to fly another day. Plus preveting them inside to start with!!!
Anyone want to eat after the birds get done with your chow?? Not to mention clothes etc.but still--just don--

around here the bobcats and coyotes in walmart take care of the (not sparrows but grackles)
And seriously this time, our neighbor spotted a coral snake in the produce dept in the Krogers store here. employees whisked it away shushing him at the same time.

i know we have them at our home depot but our wally world is always spotless clean...in fact you can smell the cleaners sometimes...
i think it depends on the manager....i' complain tho...and yep it's definitely a health hazard...

The birds have learned to use the motion detectors above the doors to get into the stores. (Well documented) Also, they land (and other things) on the produce when it's growing and in transit so...
Now, if I could just get them to come in my house and eat the ticks! Which come right through the 1840 fieldstone foundation and share the living space. That means no matter how "cured" I get, I'm just gonna get lyme & co. again, but I don't really worry about it. (3 time loser!)

About a month ago there was an article in our Sunday paper about birds in the grocery store. The store was open 24 hours, so they had someone come in to shoot the birds in the early am.

That is so gross. I can only imagine what's been pooping on my pineapples. But then, they probably poop on them outside too!
