I have an oil leak but it is not coming from the transmission.
I check the dip stick and it says full.
But, there has been a big enough leak for some time now that something should need oil.
I did take it into the mechanic and can't recall what they said.
But, they also checked the dip stick and said it was fine.
Guess it is time to go back to them and ask again.
Just wondering if there is anyone out there that might give me a clue as to where this oil ink is coming from and what needs oil.

Either the engine OR power steering comes to mind.
Are you sure you pulled the trans dipstick??Or the engine dipstick?? Does your trans have to be in neutral to check,,,some do!!
Is it far enough back to come from the rear end differential??
This CAN be serious so take it someplace and have them look and add as needed,,,for now,,,till fixed.
OR get it fixed right away,it only gets worse, doesnt correct it self .
Do you ALWAYS park in same spot?? Try a new one in a new area, mark where tire is and see where its coming from back to front and side to side,,,report back,,,,YOU now have homework!!
Oil senders are otorious for this too. LOTS of leak places.
Nothing else have mechanic,CALL me,,,and I will write it down for you so you can read and reread!!(when your able)

It is coming from the front in the middle. I can see it dripping as I walk back from my hike in the forest.
I do recall now that the mechanic said something about it would be too much money to fix it..more than the car is worth.
But, I can't recall yet what he said to do about it.
I do think it is time I go in and see what that was.

Pick a little up and rub it b/w your fingers. Honey colored is fresh engine oil, dark brown is old engine oil, reddish-brown is transmission or power steering fluid, pale green or orange is radiator coolant and almost clear could be air conditioning compressor oil.
If you know what each smells like you can tell them apart without any problem, but that is not going to help you much, sorry.

I took the car to the mechanic this am. Told him I would not be able to speak intelligently but here it goes.
bottom line is I am to put 1,000 more miles on the car and then come back for the oil change.
He checked the oil this am too and said it as oK.
he also told me what it was that was that was causing the oil leak and just said it was a constant drip.
But, my brain could not process what he said.
I still want to get under the car and check the color of the oil when I am able.
Just not up to it lately. I would just like my brain to make sense of things.
I tried to check the mileage so I could write down what I have now and then when to bring it back in in a 1,000
But, my brain was not up to that either this am so will try again later.
I had a 57 Chevy that I destroyed due to not keeping oil in it so don't want to do the same with this car.

dont get UNDER the car,,,just back it up a bit and get out and it should be right there. maybe can tell color from looking at it. Otherwise have someone there bend over and get some on a paper towel??
Dont let Rosie lick it. A little bit of green antifreeze is fatal,,,and dogs LIKE it cause its sweet!!
Does this leak ONLY while running,,,or leak all the time,,,running or not??
Do you recall IF the mechanic said front or back main seals??
Otherwise email me his number or give him my number to call and we will get to the bottom of this issue!!

OK brain worked enough to recall odometer said
2040044...i think...but not well enough to figure out what I need to write on calendar yet for oild change in 1,000 miles.
ok i will get the paper towel and see what i come up with either when i am able or if someone is close by.
i noticed the oil like leak where ever i park
i also notice it when i am coming back from being on the trail...trail is lower than where i park... as i park on the asphalt and can see the ? dripping
i do have times when teh brain clears up enough to figure these things out...but i never know when that will be

Boy you DO have alot of miles on that car,,,,
check your numbers again cause 2 MILLION isnt too likely.
Alot of 18 wheelers dont have that many!!
Either that or its a well preserved relic,,, unless thats 4 . 4 on the end,,,tenths that is. yep LOTS more likely!!!

LOL....oops...looked again and it was 2040??
Brain is in lala land lately...again
Still not able to figure out when to mark whatever mileage I have plus 1,000 miles for the oil change.
I just know it has over 200,000 miles on the engine.
So, I am assuming with what brain I have right now that 205,000 is the magic number.
