Just a few more days and we'll be enjoying a good old fashioned family vacation at the beach with daughter and son-in-law, and our two little grandpirates, ages 3 1/2 and 1 1/2. I've been planning the un-birthday party, luau, games and swashbuckling silliness for months now, and it has been the most delightful diversion while being sick.
As chips off the old block, the littlest family members are enthusiastic buccaneers, and this year's Pirate Day (a family tradition) will be full of surprises. Starting with waking up to discover their very own custom-designed pirate hideout, to a treasure hunt at the beach and a dress-up dinner. Though not normally one for costumes, my husband displayed particular enthusiasm yesterday while trying on pirate hats. Arrrrrrgh. Me thinks he's getting in the spirit of things.

We're leaving for the beach house tomorrow morning, so I'm spending the day assembling this insane collection of party supplies, decorations, grass skirts, pirate hats, and tea pots and cups in every color. Planning all this myrth has kept my mind off being sick, but, geez did I go overboard. My husband brought me two huge plastic storage bins to organize things for the various activities, but I'm sure he'll be raising some eyebrows that it won't all fit. Sheesh!
But we'll have a ball, and we'll never have the little girls at this age again, so I say we go for it!
