Yikes! Does anyone know what this could be?
My best guess is it's coming from the upper back; I think the fan.
Is this something I can fix myself? Gonna try and open it up.
Any input greatly appreciated; providing I can get back here.
TIA trueblue

Not to worry....yet.
Open up the hard drive and then vacuum that baby with the slim nozzle attachment on your vacuum. After you have done this put the panel back on the side of your hard drive. Now vacuum the whole PC itself and the keyboard.
If it gets dusty it can overheat causing the fan to work overtime. I had a computer crash (black screen of death) and I ressurrected it just like from the dead by doing this. I there after called my computer Lazarus.
Now unplug everything from the computer. All the wiring *just make note of where they go* from the computer, hard drive, printer, etc.. and the wall, or storm surge protection. When everything is unplugged vacuum the rear of everything. Then put all the wires back in place and plug the computer back in.
Once the computer is back on do a full system scan. Depending on how long the scan takes you'll know if you have any damage. My scan usually takes about 50 minutes so if it took much longer than that I would know there is something more involved going on.

Well, you know part of that is because you're Magic, right?
The opening and dusting seems to have helped. (I responded on the thread in general; I wasnt sure if anyone every came down here to the catacombs. )
Thank you! I'll do a system scan now.

Ooooo, I wonder... if I unearth my magic wand if my D drive would work?
The system scan looked pretty good considering what I'm using for a computer.
(Ha, I just looked and I spelled catacombs right, who knew?))
Actually, I do have a strange kind of magic. For some reason (and it's always been this way). I can take something apart, not find the problem, and put it back together and have it miraculously work. Maybe it's because I enjoy the taking apart and putting together, so much, that things decide the least they can do is work for me.
And Happy Thanksgiving to you too! Mmmmm... turkey.

I've got an old computer that's just used for storage now but it's always sounded like there was a dragonfly in it...I took it apart once and there's a fan in there on it's last legs. I just let it buzz away....

It could be like our fort or treehouse or something?
Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours, Charlie.
Puter is still behaving, it had more fans than I thought when opened it, maybe we all need more fans?

Right back at ya, Charlie.
(Pity about the furniture though.)
The broadband is wireless, too? Way cool! I have the slowest speed DSL and I'm pleased as can be.
Every few months someone from Bellsouth calls and asks if I'd like to upgrade to a faster speed. I ask them if the price is lower...
I then proceed to tell them how fast it is; it's like lightening from my old dial-up modem. I tell them I love it. The telemarketers are so shocked they just thank me for my time and go away.

I'll have to find a speed monitor and download it...they say 'up to' 2MB/per second but I doubt it...has to go thru a Chinese tallow tree. (the tree could go if necessary)
It comes off a tower a couple of miles from here and addresses a great need for hi speed internet in rural areas...the alternative is 2 way satellite dish which is expensive and has weather problems.
They just hooked some kind of stubby antenna on the chimney and set up the router (I had to buy) and it works fine.
I think it's only in TX for now but maybe not...but anybody interested can google 'Internet America' and get the link. I guess they're throwing towers up all over the place.
I'm happy...

Trueblue - Wow!
A secret fort. I like it.
Charlie -
The Towers around here are disguised as trees. Talk about strange. Wireless is nice though.

Funny, I think the trees here are disguised as towers.
My mom used to hate us building forts in the house. Taking all the blankets and tucking them in things and incorporating the TV into them. Ha, could it have been the breakable things we used to weight the ends? Dunno, but as soon as my sister had kids I taught them to build forts.
Stuff like that needs to be passed on or the tradition is lost. Kinda like burning furniture.
I need to google Chinese tallow trees, no idea what they look like.

Ah....traditions.
Burning furniture is not a tradition my family has. We have burned a few skeletons though we found in the attic and some hidden away closets.
I loved forts as a kid. We had a pit fort that the parents hated in an old abandoned lot. I guess they were afraid of a cave-in but we just thought it was so cool.
Maybe I'll teach the youngins today to build a tent fort out of the kiddie table. After we eat of course, as I do not anyone sent to the corner without eating first.
