I would need a lot more info cause I'm not sure what you're talking about?
If I'm getting you right you have AOL and it'se sending out email you did not send? How do you know? You could go into your email settings in AOL and change your password so that if someone did get it you could put a stop to it.
You should have an active and up to date anti virus software running on your PC along with a good Firewall. If you need a free Firewall try this.
You have to be careful with the free programs because every once in a while they send you a message that an update is ready and when it comes up you have two choices one is free and one is a free trial that runs out in 30 days. Usually the one that's not free is the first choice because they know people click on the first one they see thinking it's the free one.
Do you have high speed net? Does your internet provider give you free security software? Mine does and that's what I use now so check and see and if they offer you a free security suite do it.

Steve,
I got a msg from a lyme yahoo group that I had a virus.
I also received msg from the mgr here at the apartment a while back that were not really from her.
And I got one of the msg sent to me on my gmail acct that was bogus...so it looks like it is going down the line with my address book.
AOL address book that is.
I had Microsoft essentials but it did not pick it up.
I also have something else that scans when I first turn the computer on...don't recall what that was is at this time.
I am confused now and don't know what I have.
I did download the avg virus protection for a few free days.
I was going to do PC tools but thought it would be better if I could find one for free.
I also though NPG cable ..which is my server..had a protection on it.
So, need to continue to do research.
I will look into the fire wall.
I just changed my aol pass word as it would not allow em to get back into my acct...it does that at times.

I would suggest the very first thing you do is check your provider and see what they have for free. If they have an all in one then I say install that one. For the record.... You should only have ONE anti virus and ONE firewall installed. If you have more than one they can actually miss things. Yes I got an email from your AOL too so you have something for sure.
I have more questions and you can answer when you feel up to it ok? How old is your PC? What do you have for an OS? Like for instance Windows XP, Vista or Win 7. Don't do the Zone Alarm because that's waht I was afraid of that you would click the wrong thing.
Let's go one step at a time and check with your ISP NPG Cable and see if they have the all in one you can download and install. They will probably do that with you on the phone if you ask and mention your disabled.

I tried the free AVG but computer was very, very slow so uninstalled it.
Fast Scan is all the info I can get with the program that scans things when the computer is first turned on.
I looked in the add/remove part of the things and didn't see any virus protection.
But, I have had microsoft esstentials and fast scan for a long time now so a bit confused.
XP
Computer was given to me used..brain can't recall how long i have had it at the moment
Ah yes...I got it when I moved into this apartment but don't have a clue when that was...
I will be finding out soon as paper work for lease needs to be renewed.

Yeah don't bother trying anything else yet because your PC is infected and may be stopping stuff from working right.
Let me know how you make out with NPG and if they can't help you, I'll figure out how I can help you.

Good Morning,
Sent email to NPG...not sure why I did not think of this earlier.
Phone skills and vision not working well this am so not able to use TTY or phone skills.
Brain inflamed.
Glad I am posting here so I know when I sent them an email as I loose track of time.
It seems when I usually send email to them..it is not answered. Hoping this time it is.
If not, hoping I am able to call them on the TTY or have my phone skills later.

google combofix. Download. Run, do everything it asks (pretty much just ok, yes, update, next, etc) and then get out of the way, find something to do for the next half hour. It will finish, reboot and then post a log file.
Good general bug fix program. If that doesn't do the trick, DrWeb Cure it.
