I am putting this idea forward- if anyone thinks it has weight- Please advise me how to get the ball rolling. If Lymenet likes the idea hopefully we can raise money and awareness at the same time.

I started wondering if there was a fundraising method for lyme. What would be a good way to bring it to the public's attention? If the public became aware of Lyme disease, the Politicians would begin to respond to what the public cared about and would have to acknowledge and recognize The suffering and plight of those with Lyme.

So far I came up with an idea, I am not sure if it can be plausible, but every idea has to start somewhere. I bring this forth as a suggestion.
It would have to start small like on a University campus and get students involved, and it would definitely grow from there.

1st idea.
There is a Tv show that has become very popular- "The Amazing Race"- it has been a huge hit, and why not get people to take part in a toned down version of this?

CAmpus/ City /State wide Treasure hunt. Start small- like on a University campus- and it can and will grow from there.

Possible name for the event: "Ticked off for Lyme"/ ``The Great Lyme Tick off'' : Because Lyme affects everyone!

Objective: Get people to hunt down specific items on a list- (50 -100 items) and spend the day in a designated area- or in the city looking for the items.
It would promote family time as they work together to find the items and discuss where to go to look for the items. They can get sponsors from friends and families to make donations for their trek.
Just as Lyme disease affects more that just the people infected, we can have Lyme awareness take the form of positive benefits for all , and reap the benefits for other non profit organizations.

There can be different categories of items.
Some companies may want to be on a list of "Treasure Trove" (game friendly)participants, where people can go to find items, as well as to increase awareness of the stores locations.

The can be checkpoints, and designated drop off points for some items that are in the list.

People in the city that want to donate gently used items can go to these places and donate or give items. (old telephones, computers, toasters, Clothing, costume jewlelry, etc.)

There would be specific drop off points for specific types of items. Eg electronics, house wares, clothing, canned goods, books etc.

option 1-
If items are something that can be bought maybe eventually companies can be convinced to donate the items toward the cause and in exchange given a "I ticked off lyme" voucher/receipt listing the amount of the item for receipt purposes.
eg: a grocery store donates food items, which in the end can be given to a food bank. The food item would be donated to the food bank and the cost of the item toward Lyme proceeds. A receipt can be given for taxes write offs.

option 2
Have items on the list that some companies would be willing to pay for - and can double the donated amount. Maybe items that can be recycled, computer components, clothing, etc. (more research will need to be done)

Another possibility-
Speeding tickets! Parking tickets!
This would have to be discussed with the authorities in the area- but perhaps anyone with speeding tickets can go on the day of the race- get the amount of the ticket reduced to half and get a stamped ticket and donation voucher for tax purposes- and all the tickets paid on that day (perhaps a specified amount lets say 10- 20 tickets) all the proceeds go toward Lyme disease. These stamped tickets might be an item on the treasure hunt's List of items.

If items on the list are items such as slightly used clothing, computers, food, old cell phones (for womens shelters), and can be donated to other causes, the event can benefit many others as well.

It would also have designated places for the collected items to go. Some places that could benefit would be- womens//childrens shelters, food bank, orphanages, work training programs for the unemployed (repairing dysfunctional electronics),etc.
Items collected and by treasure hunters and the excess items dropped off by society, (in good condition) could also be sold on e-bay, flea markets and all proceeds toward Lyme.
Lists could be designed to include items needed at places such as food banks, women's shelters or other groups.

Idea#2
Raffle tickets/ draw
Determine companies willing to donate items for the tax write off, and sell raffle tickets for the draw.
Perhaps prizes such at kids bikes, adult bicycles, computers, i-pods, barbeques, passes to fun parks, etc.
