Dear Lyme Community,

On Saturday, April 19th, tickets for the world premiere of UNDER OUR SKIN, an infectious new film about microbes, money and medicine, will go on sale at the Tribeca Film Festival website.

Help us pack the house at the Tribeca screenings, so that broadcasters and distributors know how important this film is and how large of an audience it can generate! And please forward this message to friends and family who might want to attend.

Screening Times: www.tribecafilmfestival.org/filmguide/16735456.html

Three years in the making, this documentary reveals the shocking human, medical and political dimensions of one of the most misunderstood diseases of our time -- Lyme disease. Following the lives of courageous patients and physicians as they battle the epidemic, the film brings into focus a haunting picture of our healthcare system and its inability to cope with a growing terror under our skin.

The Tribeca Film Festival, quickly becoming one of the premiere film festivals in the country, has selected UNDER OUR SKIN for its "Discovery" section, showing it at a coveted Saturday 7pm screening slot. It is also being featured in a special "Behind the Screens" series to discuss "films and conversations about truth, clarity and responsibility." UNDER OUR SKIN is one of three festival films chosen for this series, and the only documentary. We anticipate major press for this event, and look forward to bringing the film's issues to the forefront of the American public.

And many thanks from Andy, Kris, and the rest of the Open Eye crew for all of your help in getting this film to the big screen.

World Premiere
Saturday, April 26, 7:00 pm
AMC Village VII, Theater 2
66 Third Avenue (at 11th Street)

"Behind the Screens" Moderated Discussion
Sunday, April 27, 6:30 pm
Amy Tan, Dr. Richard Horowitz, and Andy Abrahams Wilson in discussion
Directors Guild of America (DGA) Theater
110 West 57th Street (between 6th & 7th Avenues)

I too want to say we wish all of you affliated with this film, the very best of luck.

I have tickets for this documentary next month and just not sure that I could swing the extra time to do both events, but I'm looking so forward to seeing this piece of work and hope your message is a huge success.

I do hope that those of you that get to see this film or go to this event can give us a recap on how it goes. I really wish I could be there, but heard about the viewing first with Time Square area and jumped immediately, so both just aren't in the cards.

GOOD LUCK!!!!!

Could we buy tickets once we get there?

I tried ordering online, but I realized that there wouldn't be enough time for the tickets to be mailed to me. I tried calling the theater, but nobody ever answers.

For those who have been able to see the film at Tribeca, please let us know how it went.
Also, if anyone went to the panel discussion following Sat. nite's showing, with Andy, Amy Tan, Dr. H and a moderator from NBC--would love to hear about that as well!
Thanks,
Nancy

Yes, I want to hear all about it too - does anyone know if there will be video available of the panel discussion?

I wonder when the film will be in general distribution? Waiting to see it on the west coast here....

Hi All......

We went to see the film last night in the village.....
The theater was full......
Not sure how to explain my feelings but I'll try.....first off......Wow....what a great job they did in making it......it went through everything I could think of and more....

It was a roller coaster of emotions........through out the film......
At times I had to hold back the tears.....as I'm sure a lot of people in the theater did....
I think it had even more of an impact on my husband and my close friend .......at least a different impact...
If any of you do live close and are going, I really recommend you bring your spouses or anyone close to you......

The director Andy A. Wilson opened the film in thanking all who came........
...and at the end of the film he spoke. again and. he seemed very humbled by the out come. As he was thanking all who were involved in the film .....we were surprised that some were there in the audience...Kris Newby......Mandy and her husband...(the main girl in the film)..a few other Lyme victims that were in it and a few doctors...including Dr. Richard Howorwitz...(he will be in the discussion to night)......my husband had to go shake his hand for all the time and dedication he has done for our Lyme community.....

All I can say is that if you do live close by......go see it.....really....go see it......it really was something to see on the big screen......

For all who have been waiting for several years for this to finally make it......it was worth the wait......
I have had Lyme for over 20 years...I'm sure many of you have even had it longer ..... to sit there in that theatre was so overwhelmingly comforting...and that we have survived this hideous disease with such strength and dignity..........

At the end of the film there was a standing ovation....filled with an abundance of clapping.....as I stood to stand......I not only felt that I was standing for the success of the film....but for all who have survived...all who did not survive and all who are trying to survive this life with Lyme......

..it was to me a standing ovation to all of us......I felt that....I felt all of you with me....and I'm so grateful that I have LymeNet and all of you...........
We are truly warriors and we fight everyday for our lives with this disease that is ``under our skin''.

Thanks for sharing your experience of the film, Mtree. That sounds very moving and powerful. We were in NYC about two weeks ago to see my son's doc upstate and I wished we had been able to plan it better to be there for the festival as well.

Cs, yes, I posted on the blog to ask about a video of the discussion that happened tonight. I just finished sending an email to Robert Bazell, the moderator and health correspondent from NBC news and will post if I get a reply. I asked if they would be doing a report or video. Interestingly, Robert Bazell covered the AIDS epidemic from the early days...I wonder if he sees similarities?

One more thing, on the Tribeca site I saw that Cadillac gives an award each year to the film that gets the most votes from audience members...kind of a best picture based on audience response. As of today, Under Our Skin is in first place!

Oh wow Nancy, that is great about the Cadillac award, that would be so wonderful if they won it! And that is interested about Bazell, hopefully this will peak his interest and he will follow up on it - to get a network reporter following up on this would be huge. Definitely let us know if you hear back from him, that would be great!

Thank you to those who came to the Tribeca screenings of UNDER OUR SKIN!

It was so great to meet some of the people I've met on Lymenet over the years.

Also, the Tribeca organizers and our publicist were blown away by the support for the film. They said they've RARELY seen standing ovations like that, and it's a really good sign of things to come.

Dr. Horowitz and Amy Tan were fantastic on the panel, and I'm hoping the NBC Health Correspondent decides to do a segment on the disease on TV.

There are still tickets available for Monday 5pm, Thursday 2pm and Friday 6pm.

Spread the word!! Email the Tribeca times to your friends and family. And remind them to fill out the Audience Voting Cards! (If we can win an audience award, it increases our chance of a TV deal immensely.)

And again thanks for all your support in getting this important story out!

Kris,

Thanks for the update!! I sure wish I could see it at the festival!

I'm so curious about the policital/IDSA was presented. Were there any smoking guns that the general lyme community hasn't known up to this point?

What are the plans for distribution after the festival?

thanks so much,

Anneke

The Cadillac award ballots are given out to the audience as they walk into the theater and have to be turned in at the end.

As of April 29 Under Our Skin is in 4th place.

..cathy,

the site is showing SAME ONE YOU ALL GOT FOR $95 ... no extras on it.

in my opinion, that's not right! would have been nice if WE LYME PATIENTS could have all been offered the $30 offer!

that's my opinion, and i'm sticking to it!

Betty,

From my understanding, the $95 that you discuss is if you want the community version. That includes licening to be able to show it at places like Support groups, non profit type places where there is no admission charge.

They also have one for about 295 for a fundraising type viewing.

The one I got is a "home only" copy and I believe it's still in the 30's after postage. I didn't have to pay postage since I picked it up there.

From my understanding, they are all the same video but the way you use your copy will be used differently. If you are still only planning to use it for your own personal use at home, click on "home video", not "community group".

Hope that helps.

Tracy,

It's at http://www.underourskin.com/dvd at the bottom of the page.

There will be the three options on the DVD, but I think what most of us want is the second one down that says "Home Video".

Hope this helps.
