Idsucs, Our situation in Texas is somewhat different from the situation in other states because our Texas Constitution (Article 16, Sec. 31) protects different schools of medical thought - for example, ILADS vs IDSA. So we don't really need a "Lyme bill" per se, as CT is attempting to pass.
However, there's one unique problem which we face in Texas, and it's huge.
Our Texas Medical Board (TMB) has been following very corrupt practices, and that's what we are trying to fix via legislation to amend our statutes in order to guarantee fair due process for physicians who are targeted by the TMB. A bill is in the works, I'm told, but it hasn't been filed yet.
Here's a link to my testimony about these problems which I presented to the TMB and to the Sunset Commission last December. It contains lots of "clickable" hyperlinks which will help you to understand our unique situation in Texas.
At special request of one of our beloved LLMDs, who did not want too much attention on Lyme disease per se for fear that it might make waves which could splash back on him, I broadened my emphasis to include other chronic diseases, such as CFS and FM.
You see, the TMB never goes after docs for treating Lyme disease per se because they know they cannot get by with doing that. Instead, they go after them for other minor things. It's all very, very complicated.
If you need more info about what's going on in Texas, please contact me by PM and I'll try to fill you in.
