WE DID IT!
The airing of Under Our Skin on Maryland Public TV was 'touch and go' for a few months, due in part to opposition from the "other side".
Thankfully, MPT did not bow to the pressure and aired the show anyway! Three thumbs up for MPT!
However, unhappy IDSA supporters, including the IDSA president, wanted time to share their views.
MPT gave them a chance on the show "Direct Connections". It aired this past Monday night at 7:30 PM. The 1/2 hour segment is now on MPT website at the link below.
Eugene Shapiro, Robert Edelman (University of Maryland Vaccine Division- worked the Lyme vaccine trials) and Mandy from Under Our Skin were the main guests (Mandy was great).
Of course, Paul Auewaeter (Johns Hopkins Infectious Diseases and 2006 IDSA Guideline editor) had to have his say and was quoted.
To watch the IDSA's rebuttal show on Direct Connections:
BTW- Dan Rodricks' nasty Baltimore Sun article, kicking the movie and quoting IDSA supporter Phil Baker of the American Lyme Disease Foundation, was seen by the MPT staff, and MPT showed the film anyway!
Nice to know that Rodrick's efforts (again) did nothing more than make the author (Rodrick) and publisher (Baltimore Sun) look, well, like big babies.
Rodrick article (2nd one trashing Under Our Skin- his most recent):
BTW- I knew I would be an awful "guest" when they asked, so a big thanks to the ILADS docs I contacted during this fiasco who were prepared and on stand-by to do the Direct Connections show if needed.

Ha Ha! I love how the host cut Shapiro short. There's something about that guy, something in his eyes. I wouldn't trust him to provide medical care to my worst enemy. I remember him saying in the movie "We understand Lyme disease. It's something we have a very good handle on."
Yeah, I'll bet you do, Dr. Shapiro. I'll bet you do.

So true, so true... all of you! HA!
I also want to mention that Shapiro said... "We've had more than 30 years of solid scientific studies...." Blah, blah, blah...
Lie, lie lie.
They first claimed Lyme was a virus and there was no need for antibiotics. Then there was the vaccine and studies prior to it that described the HORRIFIC problems Lyme can cause.
It wasn't until more recently that they started furiously publishing how easy to diagnose and treat Lyme was, for their best new friends, the insurance companies.
What I find interesting is that even the early studies and early animal models for Lyme included a CHRONIC phase of the disease. They've been talking about antibiotic resistant borreliosis for over a hundred years! They're still pretending like this is some "new" disease that was just discovered in CT and consists of a swollen knee and a rash, and it's MUCH more than that.
Maybe the problem is one of poor definitions. Let's drop the "lyme disease" and call it what it is, relapsing neuroborreliosis. Maybe then doctors will start treating it with the seriousness it deserves!

anonymiss - actually it's even more complicated than just "relapsing neuroborreliosis", because of all of the coinfections frequently involved. That's why Dr. B calls it "Lyme Disease Complex", and Dr. H calls it "MCIDS - Multiple Chronic Infectious Disease Syndrome". The crazy thing is that the IDSA is still persistently trying to tell everybody that it's a simple and easy-to-cure disease.

When was the last time a documentary had a "rebuttal" ???
