Local HMO has decided to send someone in our group to see a Lyme Literate MD at Emory. Anyone here know who this LLMD maybe? Imput appreciated. SandiB

In case you don't get any answers, then the next best way to check out this person is to call his office and ask the receptionist if he's a member of ILADS. www.ilads.org
If not, cancel the appointment and find another Lyme-Friendly LLMD. There are a lot of "Lyme-literate" MDs out there, especially in academic settings, but few if any of them are Lyme-friendly.
This is probably going to turn out to be an ID-iot specialist. (ID = infectious disease) They are the worst of all.
The HMO is just trying to get someone to state that this person doesn't have LD, most likely, so that the HMO won't have to pay for the expensive treatment.
Bottom Line: Be wary.

SandiB, I'm not far from Emory, but I haven't heard anything about a LLMD there. Not saying there isn't one, but seems we would have heard about it since we are so deperate for LLMDs in the Southeast.
The closest LLMDs I'm aware of are Dr C in Springfield, MO Dr J near Charlotte, NC and possibly one in Mobile, AL

A friend of mine who lives in Atlanta wound up at Emory because he was trying to work
under confines of insurance. He was with me often in woods where I got Lyme and has all
classic symptons and probs that I do and they came up with an off the wall diag
that is so rare and uncurable and he trusts drs so is just going downhill.When we talk
he wonders about his diag but says that he knows they are doing the right thing for
him and he is putting his trust(and life) in them.So sad,we used to pull 10-15 ticks
every time we were in the woods(south ga). I got lyme,he got rare incurable something?
So sad.

I would be weary of Emory. A friend of mines niece went there because of blood in her urine and joint pain. The doctors told this nine yr old she had Lupus after doing a urinalysis, cbc, and one antibody test.
My friend talked his Aunt into going to a LLMD and she has Lyme. They tested her further for Lupus and she doesn't have it.

John, it just breaks my heart to hear stories like this, but unfortunately, there are lots of them around.
I have a couple friends with similar situations.
Thanks for checking on me recently. In working with Lyme disease, I've met some of the nicest people!!!

Thank you all for posting. I have learned this doctor is not a ILADS member. When I have some additional info on him, I shall share it with you. Not that we expect him to be Lyme literate. However, when fighting the HMOs you have to go through their hoops. We won't give up though. SandiB

Thow it has been yrs.now. I was rushed into Dekalb hosp after being sick for 1 week with all meningitis type or prob. lyme now That I can go back. We were camping week pryor St. Andrews state park,Panama City FL.. Deer came up to daughter & myself. We both had alot of bite returning home. She ran high temp for 2 days then was fine.
I continued to get worse. They did spinal tap, said had strange type of meningitis. In hosp. very ill for 10 days. Extremely light sensitive. They were concerned about my vision etc. Called in top specialist from Emory. 5 doc`s all scratching there heads standing over my bed.
More than 10 yrs. later a fl. doc ran lyme test came out positive.
He said was not positive enough to report to CDC.Yet, gave me 4 wk. round od doxy. I got worse he said must not be lyme???? Then went up to Kaiser in Ohio they ran tests WB,Elisa,Antibodies, all came back positive.
So even though it has been awhile they never even thought of lyme or tested for it & was suppossed to be Emory`s best...Hmmmmm
I had respected Emory, yet my mom had heart attack,while visiting, & they really missed the boat with her too.
