Has anyone found that pulsing the antibiotics made the lyme mutate?

I was told to pulse the antibiotics if I felt it was better for me by my Lyme MD....

BUT, am worried that if I do this, the lyme may mutate?

I just went off the zithro and flagyl for 2 days and WOW! much better feeling on day 2. Possibly it also gave my body a chance to
recuperate from the herxing.

Was thinking to do them, 5 on and 2 off.

Searched the archives, and found some do this, but did not find anything where someone did this and it backfired.

Was also thinking to just keep on the zithro/flagyl steady, and when I felt I needed to stop them for a break, do so.

thanks,

Trish

I don't know if it is better, or even OK. Not sure if anybody really does. I am trying it myself, because in the past every time I've tried Zithromax, it caused some very bad reactions as it builds up in my system.

However, it also attacks some of the areas of infection that other medication is not reaching. So I am taking it until I get the beginning the reaction, then taking a break. I'm not backing off at herxing, but when my gut starts to break down.

I'm giving it enough time to recover, then I'll go for it again. I'm hoping that this option is better than not taking it at all, or taking it till I have the kind of reaction that I did last time. Then it took over a month off the meds for my gut to recover.

I do have the approval of my doctor to do this, and I'm also taking Tinidazole and Omnicef at the same time. We'll see.

I "pulse" when I become "symptom free" on my antibitotics. I use the pulsing to put my Lyme into remission. I do 5 on and then 5 off. And what happens is about the 5th cycle during the "off" - the symptoms never come back and my Lyme goes into remission. This has successfully worked 3 times (which resulted in 3 successful periods of "off meds" for 9-12 months.

I don't know anything about whether this causes mutation of the organism.

Sandy, When you go out of remissions and back on abx, do you resume the same abx or are they different abx each time? If they are the same meds, it would seem as if mutation did not occur.

Our Lyme doctor always tells me that he prefers me to skip a whole day, or several days, rather than go down to one dose a day or otherwise reduce the daily dose. Perhaps this is related to mutation...I keep forgetting to ask.

I am very interested in all of Sandy's postings about this pulsing protocol. I feel desperate after 3 1/2 years of abx, and a lot of recent yeast issues, to at least reduce abx, perhaps through pulsing. I feel stuck because I get sick almost immediately if I skip doses. However, lately, after skipping days here and there, ti does seemt that this phenomenon of quickly worsened symptoms w/out abx has somewhat lessened.

Any more info on what you do, Sandy, would be most appreciated. What drugs are you pulsing? Do you get sicker at first? Etc.
