AFter reading a lot of the messages, it appears that many lyme sufferers are just in so much pain. My husband's pain has increased greatly since getting on Doxy 100 mg 2xdaily for 1 month and then getting off of it.

So far nothing the doctors have prescribed has even begun to touch the pain.

So has anyone found anything that helps?

Why don't NSAIDs work? Why don't the narcotics even work? What to do?

so sorry to hear your husband is in so much pain. Have you tried ultram or tramadol (same thing)? It's an rx non-narcodic.
It was the only thing that worked when the pain was so bad I hurt to breathe.
Hope he gets some relief soon!

ps. sounds like the pain might be a herx from starting the doxy? I know the first few months on treatment was the worst for pain, then it got better gradually.

Why did he stop the doxy? I stopped and had a relapse and am now back on again...I wish i had kept on it even when I hated the stuff
Hope you find some things that work for him...this is so tricky and is not for whimps that's for sure! He's lucky to have you!

The doctor mentioned Ultram but then for some reason he gave him a script for Darvocet (which didn't work at all)
I need to call them back and see if they can call in the Ultram.

He was put on a low dose of Doxy by one doctor and then we switched to a LLMD. He took him off the doxy so my husband could have blood testing done.

Now that his tests are back, I was hoping the doctor would start the treatment plan. But I've been calling and calling and so far, the doctor hasn't responded.

His next appt. is Aug. 8th and I'm now thinking he won't be able to start treatment until then.

My kids take Tramadol (Ultram) with Tylenol. They have really bad headaches and it takes the edge off their headaches.

I've taken it for body pain and it does help.

Dancer, squeaky wheel gets the grease! Please continue to advocate for your husband and get him some pain treatment. It is not acceptable that he is in so much pain and that the doc is not returning your calls.

If I was in your situation, I would be calling the office repeatedly. Also try to speak to the office manager, they sometimes can help.

If that doesn't work, do you have another doc to approach?

Dancer, I can't take the normal pain meds due to the extreme side effects.

I use XS tylenol and I have FROZEN ICE PACKS on area hurting the worst:

neck, right shoulder, hips, and my left sciatic leg/thigh.

I change these every 45 minutes. Helps to numb the pain.

Thanks all.
I just called the doctor's office again and asked them to just call in the Ultram for us.
Hopefully they'll do so.

Betty ~ I agree with you about the numbing effect of ice, but he is still trying to work even through the pain and so ice packs are a bit difficult while there (though I'll try to see if he will use them while home)

I am fortunate in that Advil is very helpful for me. Long time ago the doctor gave me Vioxx (gulp) but it didn't do a thing.

Wondering why your hubby was on such a low dose of doxy and what plans are to get him back on abx??

Is he seeing an LLMD?
