Does anybody combine ketek and minocycline for the treatment of lyme? What have been your results with this combo?
Thank you!

this is a redundant combination .

if chronic should take flagyl with either one not both.
both are not necessary since they both go after the same bacteria.

I have. Seemed to work as well as other combos, even though both drugs work by inhibiting protein synthesis.

The idea generally is to combine abx that have different methods of action.

However, I found that the combo of zithromax and clindamycin, which are similar drugs, worked the best for my back symptoms. One doc observed that maybe it was just the big whack on intracellular bugs that gave this combo its power. Maybe I needed some intracellular activity at that point.

So there is more than one aspect to consider.

I think minocycline is great, but it has serious, debilitating side effects for some people. My Lyme has responded well to a combination of ketek (which is much stronger than its predecessor zithromax) and a cephalosporin such as rocephin, omnicef or ceftin.

Ketek also may have an effect on the co-infections, especially mycoplasma and babesia.

I've been on minoclycline, biaxin and placquinil for the past year. Seemed to work ok, but then kinda plateaued. A couple of months ago I switched to Ketek, Mino, and placquinil. The first month kicked but, but now seems to have leveled off.

I just started malerone for babs. After three days, I think its playing games with my neuro/psych stuff.

liz:
do you rocephin orally with ketek.
i just switched from zitro to ketek and stayed on flagyl.
does the second abx help??

i also am a firm believer in antivirals.
the bacteria tends to act more like a herpes type virus than a bacteria, going in tissue and walling itself of.
with that in mind, i put myself on acyclovir last year and have been doing much better.

also the benefit of not getting a viral coinfection when the immune system is down is quite helpful, ie no herpes, shingles or ebv while on acyclovir.
also i think these mycoplasms may be killed by the antivirals.

antivirals don't kill virues they just prevent them from stirring up their heads when your down and out.

Daughter was on Ketek, Mino and Mepron.......when Dr. H added the Mino it

made her so sick she could only take for 2 weeks and he took her off of it. She was

dizzy and could barely walk, heart palipatations, chest pain, brain fog worse

than normal, ribs hurt so bad she couldn't touch them, had to take her to hospital to

get EKG and blood work and what ever else they do for severe chest pain and irregular

heart beat. Guess it wasn't such a good idea for her. Maybe bacteria load is too high

right now for much of anything. She is now off of all meds for 4 days then will start

back on just 400mg of Ketek. Don't know what Dr. H has in mind after that.

I have been on Ketek for 9.5 months and mino for 3.5 months.

When I started the mino I herxed pretty big.....felt like a freight train was runnning in my head about 20 minues after swolling the pill.

Mino really, really helped clear my brain fog. the train only happens occassionally now. Ketek an mino work on the same form of the drug, but when I added the mino I saw vast improvement.

Mino/Ketek is a great combofor me. I also take plaquenil and have been pulsing tiniadazole recently.

Falgyl almost killed me.

After 3 days of the full dose he is eating

I have been on Ketek and Mino for about almost 2 months now. In my opinion, the Ketek is extremely strong and gave me what seemed like a constant Herx.

A few weeks ago, my LLMD decided that the combo was probably a little too much for me, and is now having me pulse just 100mg of Mino along with the Ketek every other day. Also, he added 40mg of Benicar 3Xs a day to the mix.

With this combo, I instantly noticed a difference right away with the level of pain and inflammation in my body. However, it has not been a silver bullet yet. Actually, I am starting to think that my Babs infection tx may not have been addressed for a long enough duration.

Healing thoughts to all,
Jewl

I was taking minocyline as a topical and then added ketek.. after 3 weeks of the ketek I could no longer tolerate it. My whole body at this point has an autoimmune flare of some sort, everything is inflammed and I now have a sore throat due to some sort of viral infection.
So while getting retested for everything we can think of (and no you can't have that much blood drawn at once apparently!) I'm now off my meds for at least a week to see if I can recover to some degree.

Ketek seems to work for some not for others.
