About 3 weeks ago I was scratched by a cat I was vaccinating for rabies. I was concerned about cat scratch fever (Hemobartenellla). I began takng Ciprofloxacin. I took it for 5 days. During this time, I noticed my night sweats quit. Apparently, the cipro is attacking some microorganism. LLMD says I am either cured of Lyme or in remission. I say neither based on the way my body feels. Right now I am running fever. I am using a Braun thermoscan ear thermometer. I take at least 3 readings in a row and they are either the same or vary by 1-2 tenths of a degree. It is calibrated. My question is; how accurate/reliable are the ear thermometers??? Also, if the cipro is attacking a microorganism; then what is causing my fever?? Herx???, Secondary infection???, Lyme?? My temp ranges from 99.2-100.1 (with the ear thermometer). It is normal at times. Any input from you guys is welcomrf

Hi. This is really a shot in the dark, but since I started full blast bart treatment a month ago, I've noticed that about 50% of my Lyme symptoms may have actually been bart symptoms.
Also, if I forget to take the regularly scheduled rifampin dose for a few hours, the symptoms return, so it's definitely the rifampin that's doing the job. Of course, there could be lots more co-infections we don't know about yet. But yes, bart can be much more mixed up with Lyme than we know.

In the past five days I have been told by two llmds that bartonella right now is the happening co-infection. When visiting Dr. B. for my chronic son I told him about the fevers my other son was having and he told me to make sure the llmd we were seeing for him( for the first time) checked out bart.
Of course, like babs it is so often a clinical diagnosis - both doctors said.
(It stinks that there is so much over-lapping, though, of symptoms.)
The llmd would love for my son and I to take our temp with an old mercury thermometer. She said they are the most accurate.
Another related question: I thought Dr. K. out west said to treat bart last but this llmd today said she thought it was treated first according to Dr. B.
Anyone know what the current practice is. (I will look thru my saved posts later tonight to see if I can answer my own question.)
