I can't find a post from a couple weeks ago comparing different IV meds pros and cons. I would love any info I could get on this have to call ID doc and make my request in the morning. Please help! Also do certain ones work better in combination like adding flagyl or rifampin?

Have nuero lyme and all over body pain and have had it for 20 years I think. This will be the first dose of abx.

hi Niki,

I just wrote on rocephin and flagyl; http://flash.lymenet.org/ubb/Forum1/HTML/037051.html

If you have time before going on IV, I have some studies you can print out & show your doc if you want. If you email me before 11:00 tomorrow morning I'll email them to you sometime between 11:30 and 7:00. I'll be in and out tomorrow.

You can email me privately at caat(AT)pon.net

type that address in your email program and replace (AT) with @

You can also check out some studies and an explanation of lyme cysts here; http://www.home.pon.net/caat/lyme/research1.htm#lifephases

Thank you that was one of the threads I was looking for! From the way it sounded the doc will give me whatever I want to start with. I will ask for this combo I'm on the fluzona or how ever you spell it already but maybe if the ID doc prescribes it insurance will continue paying. Thanks for your help, I'll email you if I have any Problems.

Niki, what are you on now? anything?

Personally, if it was me and I hadn't yet begun any treatment, I'd ask for an oral that would cross the bbb for a couple weeks or more before starting with the big guns. That would lessen the bacterial load so the herx wasn't as bad... Doxy herx may be harder than rocephin though. Ceftin might be easier.

Also, I found flagyl MUCH easier to tolerate after a week of rocephin... But would rather have had *at least* 6 weeks of the rocephin/flagyl combo.... We're talking ID doc right? ILADS doc would be longer...

Flagyl may hit your bones if you have bone involvement with lyme. May be pretty painful, but worth it. Be prepared if so...

Maybe get all your shopping etc done before starting just in case...

Good luck!
