I am assuming mycoplasma pneumonia is common in someone who does not have lyme disease. Think my assumption is correct?
I'm asking because my brother, his wife and one of their sons contracted it at the same time and they're all quite ill.
Curiously, my brother also developed depression at the same time he was diagnosed with mycoplasma.

I had a kinesiologist test for this and it came up positive,, also epstein bar came up at a seperate time.

Mycoplasma pneumoniae is a common pathogen for walking pneumonia so it is possible to have it and not have lyme disease.
Getting pneumonia in the summer would be unusual.
Also, if the bacteria left its primary colonization site (the lungs) and became a systemic it can cause complications/problems.
Mycoplasma pneumoniae can be transmitted via airborne route.

Actually, Mathias, I think it is quite easy to pick up pneumonia in the summer, especially if one travels via air or is in a hospital. I picked it up in the dead of summer on my way to South America. Pretty sure I was exposed to it on the flight down.

My brother has classic lyme symptoms, and has had for years. He has numerous health problems. Fishes, mushroom hunts, etc. etc. Rolls his eyes about my warnings of taking precautions with ticks. The family removes attached ticks frequently, seems to think they're harmless. Also thought/thinks they were harmless when we were kids.
I do have reason to be concerned about them. I also wonder if his depression was brought on by antibiotic treatment for mycoplasma (herx)?
That being said, I know I can't blame all health problems on lyme.

Mycoplasma or mycobacterials... Is it lyme co-infection or vice versa...? I know I had been diagnosed with pneumonia or severe bronchitis four years in a row before the lyme diagnosis,,,
Mycobacteria attack the lungs cause of tuberculosis and leprosy...
Is it a cross reference when tested? who knows for sure...
I think your bro is dumb...and either extremely lucky or immune somehow...which would be interesting to delve into his genes or immune system...like some hiv pos folks who ar asymptomatic. Maybe it's just waiting for an opportunity...hope not for his sake....zman :confused:like everybody else here.

I have m.pnemoniae. It's a lyme co-infection. So, I'm hoping to get rid of it with the lyme...

Mycoplasma Pneumonia (I have had it for years) is a very nasty co-infection. Can be treated effectively with Minocin (low dose-long time). Forget the Doxy.

Yes my bro is being a dumb-dumb. He's 'brainwashed' by ducks, just as many of us were . . . for a while, anyway.
Was finally able to speak with my brother via email this morning, but he didn't disclose what antibiotics they are taking. Said they contracted the mycoplasma the Tuesday before Labor Day.
This sounds very suspicious to me.
Said he was initially diagnosed with bronchitis going into pneumonia. He says he believes it went straight to pneumonia . . . no bronchitis.
Like me, he gets bronchitis multiple times per year, for many years. I suspect I also had/have mycoplasma (same type of problems as my bro), but wasn't tested for it. My LLMD just treats for all known coinfections.
Again, I appreciate all of your views on this subject. Obviously brothers are typically very near and dear to the heart.
