Hi, I'm from Canada (Qubec)
Sorry my english is very bad
I have many questions?

I have lyme desease, trip to Virginia june 2004
Test Igenex IGG and IGM positive, I have also a co-infection bartonella (positive).

We start ABX after 3,5 months after my trip
(lyme neuro)

Traitments
ceftriaxone (2gr. by day) for 6 weeks
doxy (200mg)for 4 months
biaxin (1000mg)and doxy (200 mg) for 2 months
flagyl (1000 mg) and biaxin (1000 mg)2,5 months (very heavy)
Now I take cipro (1000mg) and biaxin (1000mg) for 4 weeks for trait bartonella.
Do you think it's enough 4 weeks for bartonella, my doctor, think the bartonella gones alone.I'm not sure.
My futur traitement is plaquenil and biaxin.

Many symptomes gones but i have always headhach, tired and anxious. Sometimes difficult to my articulations.

One years traitement and i'm not O.K
My doctor don't understand why I'm not O.K.
Did he have somebody O.K. after traitement and have a life normaly?

I smoking also, is it for that i'm not O.K.?
We don't have specialist in Qubec, do you think i have a good traitement
How long before the life come back normaly?
Thank you
Isabel

Hi Isabel,

One year is not a long time to be treated. Many here have been treated much longer. Here in the US doc's often use levaquin, or rifampin along with an abx to treat bartonella. Many here are treated for several months to get rid of the bart. You mentioned that your doing much better, however, you have to get rid of the bartonella first before you can get rid of the lyme.

You should quit smoking as well.

Click on the following link and print it out to show to your doc. Dr. B is one of the best lyme doc's in the world.

Thank you

For my test bartonella
Igm was ngative
Igg was positive 1:160

It's for that reason my doctor said you don't really bartonella. I don't understand why?

When you take Levaquin, is it important take plaquenil also, for the cellules?
Thanks Isabel

Isabel,

Bonne chance.

Hi Isa,

I guess having a French brother-in-law has helped my French language because I pretty much understand what Christelle wrote in her message.

Cipro and Levaquin are both quinilones and can have the same results against Bartonella. I believe the mainstream treatments are either Levaquin or Cipro (a quinilone) along with Biaxin or Zithromax (a macrolide).

Rifampin is also used as an alternative to the quinilone/macrolide treatment. It seems that adding a tetracycline (doxy or mino) with Rifampin is also done.

If you don't think you have treated the Bartonella enough in 1 month tell your doctor you want to continue treatment. I've read that 4 months is what has worked for some.

You may already know about it but I would like to recommend the Canadian Lyme Disease Foundation site to you. It has lots of information for Canandian Lymies. Go to www.canlyme.org and see all the info they have.

I am positive IgG for Bartonella but have not been treated for it (yet).

Take care,

Corgilla
