I have got a bad chest cold. I would have thought with all the abx I am on it would be hard to get.
Trying to avoid over the counter stuff. But not sure if that is very smart.
Any thoughts?

Hi PRConn.
I too had one recently. I couldn't believe anyone could get one, being on enough abx to choke a horse. It took me a couple of months to shake it.
I think with compromised immune systems, colds hang on longer.
If it starts getting scary or bronchitis-like, your LLMD might approve a different abx that's more broad-spectrum for treating colds and such and you could have your PCP write it.
Otherwise, just lots of water and lemon, herbal teas, and extra rest.

Just a reminder. Colds and flu are caused by viruses. Antibiotics have no effect on viruses. Some bronchitis is caused by bacteria; hence the use of antibiotics (especially in lyme patients who are more prone to secondary infections.)
People who use antibiotics for colds, or don't take their full course of antibiotics contribute to the problems the world is having with antibiotic resistance.

WOW!
Tried some Robbatussin and it left me so wired and anxious. Thought it was suppose to knock me out. Is this common with Lyme?
I have trouble with anti-depresents as well. Must be some connection.

hmmm - feeling your pain! My whole family is just coming out of brochitis hell!
KK started us off! She's on Cipro/Zith for Lyme and Bart! She started running a pesky fever and then immediately launched into an impersonation of a Seal on steroids!!
PCP added in something else that I can't remember right now + put her back on her Advair inhaler! Got most of it gone but, when she went back to school she relapsed a little bit. So, now they've added some mino for 10 days!
I got it next! I'm normally on Ketek for lyme etc. Put me on 10 days of doxy! I was perked back up after 3 or 4 days but hoarse for another 10 days or so!!
Then the stubborn dad took a round w/ it! He's also on Ketek normally and they gave him 5 days of Avelox! Nipped him right away!
Don't know how they figure what to give who but, for the most part, we all responded! Luckily, KK was given some samples and I had some left over Avelox from when I tried to take it for Bart/Lyme - so that helped w/ money!!
The strange thing was while we were each diagnosed w/ the same infection . . . our symptoms varied somewhat w/ the exception of an undescribable weakness about day 3 of the illness!
I mean strange and severe weakness - different from mine and Katie's "normal" weakness!! AWFUL!!!
We send you good wishes and lots of VICKS vapor rub and Halls cough drops!! Oh, and the Xiratuss they gave Len and I did well on the congestion!!!

I find myself with the worst cold combined with bronchitis (which is bacterial) I'm on levaquin which supposedly is especially for respiratory infections. So far not doing much. I'm giving it anohter day or so before I go back to the tired and trued killer of bronchitis which is zithro... hoping it still works. I feel simply awful and I have to go to work tomorrow and can't avoid it and have to give a friend bad news about her employment, sad and stress. and due to coughing hacking and sneezing nasel drip I can't sleep either
whimper
so I need to decide if I should stop the levequine and start zithro or keep on with the levaquine. cipro, which is related to levequine, I know to be ineffective for my bronchitis...so I'm suspecious.
my doctor has left it up to my judgement.
sigh.

Hey folks,
I am amazed at how much a chest cold brought me to my knees. The anxiety and depression from being that sick again was very frightening.
