Tommorrow I'll be starting flagyl.

What happened? Herxes? Did you take with other rx?

I'll be slowly ramping up. I am off of everything else.

Hey Heather,

It helped me big time the first time I used it. However, this time around it really killed me. But that may have been a good thing I guess.

For me, it either caused the worst herxing I ever had or I had an allergic reaction. Whatever it was, I'm not in a hurry to try it again.

My advice, go slow just like you are planning.

All My Best,
Scott

I experienced a gret deal of depression on flagyl and had to switch to tinidazole. Still some depression with Tini but no where near as bad.

Well, let's put it this way.

I thought I was "cured."

I treated for about 5 months - Doxy, high-dose Amoxy, a month o' IV, you name it. I was doin' grand, more or less! I said 'Hey doc, I'm doing pretty good, other than fallin asleep and stuff, no more headaches every day, life is GRAND!!! CAN WE STOP NOW????"

Doc said: "Er, well, we haven't addressed the CYSTIC FORM of Lyme yet."

I said, "Well, er, I prolly don't have any of that. Ha ha."

Doc said, "Here, take these Flagyl, 250 mg 3x per day (and that's a mild dose), if you don't have any cystic form you'll be just fine."

For approximately the next six weeks my head shrieked nonstop in varying degrees, but mostly in the shoot-me-now variety. I honestly thought I was all past that.

Once I even caved in (which I really hate) and took a three-day break with permission.

The head pain let up two days before I came limping in for my next LLMD appointment. (Kind of like your car stops making that noise as soon as you drive in to the mechanic's to check it out.)

I HATE FLAGYL. For more reasons that just the deprivation-of-Chardonnay aspect!!!

But it's good stuff.

Hope it treats you kindly, Heather!

Michelle

I took flagyl for three weeks in 1500mg for the first week and then 750mg for the next two weeks. Then I completely stopped it-for a month-but I will need to go back on it soon.

Something I wasn't aware of was that there's a difference between herxing and relapsing. I was really sick on flagyl to the point that I was vommiting everything I was eat, horrible headaches, neuro pain (which i had never experience), VERY low energy, and lots of back pain. It's normal to have flu-like symptoms but if you can't function normally then you should really stop the medication. Unforchunetly, I thought I could just "push" through it and ended up compromising my immune system. I have to wait until my Immune sys is strong before I can go back on the meds. I don't think I will go back on flagyl bc of the neuro symptoms but I will go on tinidmax (most likely).

Please let me know if you have any specific questions. The first few days on flagyl I didn't notice much of a difference and then it hit me like a ton of bricks!

Good luck!!!
Lindsay

hi heather - flagyl is one of my favorite drugs. i had two ileus' (gut shut downs) and flagyl finally brought me out ot it. once i started plaquenil and biaxin i started to pulse flagyl and that's when the herxes started - gut cramping, increased fatigue - now i mostly stay on it along with the others.
good luck, deb

Thank you for the great replies.

So far so good on day one. I have a slight strange headache.....

I'll update as things happen.

I love this board and everyone on it.

Flagyl gave me peripheral neuropathy and I had to switch to tinidazole instead.

Really had to start out slow. No point in having my head blown off. That is how tini/flagyl affects me, mainly terrific headaches. So, low dose better than no dose, and ramp up when possible.

Hi Heather,

Good luck on the cyst busting flagyl. I have had migraines since I was 15 years old. For the first time in my life with the help of tX and flagyl I went the longest stretch ever (ten months) without a migraine. Of course before the long stretch flagyl gave me the biggest migraine I had ever had.

For me I had one migraine that sent me to the ER. It was my second round of flagyl and only third month of tX for me.

I had lyme, ehrlichia hme and hge and babesia. I had treated babesia the first month then started flagyl for a week at the last three weeks of tX.

I went through the first round fine...the second one was rough. Woke up with a migraine from hell. Eyesight was coming and going - I lose periferal eyesight...dizzy, numbness in face, tongue, hands...felt like I was having a stroke.

Went to the ER and they drugged me up - It took the rest of the day before the migraine kept cycling. I stayed on tX for another eight months before I ever had another migraine. So I know it was a herx.

Eased up on tX lately and went thirty five days without abxs...2nd day of flagyl had a migraine although less severe still accompanied by numbness and eye sight stuff.

Two recommendations...No aerobic exercise while on it (not supposed to anyway but I cheated and paid for it) and LOTS of WATER...you do not want to become dehydrated while on it plus of course you want to keep it moving through your system...don't need kidney stones.

Take care and keep us posted...

I have read it has excellent CNS penetration and good intracellular penetration. I anticipate some miserable days coming for myself.

Good luck and keep us posted!

Hi Robi,
I just wanted to ask you a little more about your experiences with Flagyl and depression. I started taking it a few days ago (only taking a quarter of a pill so far--I go slowly) and feel totally depressed afterwards--like I can't even move or smile, almost catatonic like. Was this similar to what you experienced? I am taking such a small dosage that I hate to jump to conclusions, since the depression could be from a number of other things. However, it just comes on so suddenly and severely. Anyway, let me know what you think.
Thanks,
Carrie
--Also, is the tinidazole in the same family and does it cause similar problems?

Did 3 pills today. I know I'm brave.

So far so good. Just tired.

Tinidazole is "next generation" and is reported to have fewer side effects.

More costly, 'natch. A LOT.

You do know...Absolutely NO ALCOHOL while on this, right?

If you drink and Flagyl/Tini...you WILL end up in ER.

Keep the probiotics up..lots. One hour before meals with a full glass of water.

May take more than one "round".

Flagyl would have killed me or landed me in the psyche ward, probably permanently, if I'd taken the LLMD's dose of 500mg per day.

I took 1/8th of a 250 mg pill first day and did ok-could feel it working on head/brain? tissues, next day 1/8th again and did ok, then on third day tried 1/8th am and 1/8th pm. All hell broke loose. I was in bed with covers pulled to my ears, shaking, scared to death, sounds were horrific. Was someone breaking into the house??

Stopped Flagyl. Next day I was ok as long as I stayed home and things were quiet, then I drove my car and immediately thought I was inside a jet engine! My anxiety was so acute that my chest felt like I'd stopped a speeding car with it. Made it back home driving very slowly and concentrating with all I had, hands cramped on the steering wheel. Debated calling 911 for the chest pain.

Called doc's office. LLMD's nurse said the chest pain was just the Lyme (It wasn't.) and to go back on Biaxin. On Biaxin, just one 250 mg, all of the above happened again, just as acutely. I wound up sleeping (trying to sleep) with my large breed dogs at night. I trusted them to interpret the sounds I could not.

I have since tried Tini and did ok on it, but had to start small. Ramped up to one 250 a day over a few weeks. Stopped to add abx for a while, then back to Tini eventually.

The Flagyl experience left possibly permanent damage to what had been my good ear, the ear without hearing loss and miserable tinnitus. The new tinnitus in the newly bad ear is totally different from the tinnitus in the ear that's had ringing since a tick bite BL on the lobe in 2001.

This Flagyl drama illustrates how profoundly bad herxes can do lasting damage from which you may not recover. Flagyl can build up in your system; it is not passed well through a damaged liver. Tini does not have this caveat. BEWARE of Flagyl!

I tried flagyl in 2002 and this is gross, but for REAL: It gave me a perirectal abcess.

No one understands this to this day. No one. Not a single doc can explain how, on major ABX, I developed an abcess next to my rear end.

Every LLMD raises their eyebrows and says, now REALLY? it is supposed to BREAK cysts, not cause them. But for some reason it caused this one.

I have had problems there ever since. lovely eh?

The treating doc at the time (LLMD) had me stop the flagyl and get shots of Rocephin until the awfulness, the swelling and fevers and flu-stuff went away. It hurt like the DICKENS.

Never tried flagyl again.

I might have to this year, but hoping the tini might do me better?

Never heard of this from anyone else, so you're prolly not in danger of it. Only my A**!

Glad you've moved on from the golden goop Heather!
And thanks for the photos!

i'd not take probiotics at the same time as any antibiotic, but staggered in time, 4 hours away from the antibiotic.

when i called a pharmacist and asked about probiotics with ceftin, she said take it 4 hours after/before teh ceftin, and she said so in a forboding tone.

so i extend this advice to any antibiotic i take.

I've taken flagyl many times for Lyme. The thing I found was starting on a low dosage and building up. I start 750 mg. twice a day this weekend and using minocycline during the week.

No problems except for herxing and it is tolerable. Hope you have the same good results as I have.

Hi, Heather! Hope all is going well with flagyl. Seems to be kicking your butt. I forgot who your LLMD is... send me a priv msg if you don't mind.
How long were you on "regular" ABX before trying flagyl? Never mentioned by my LLMD, but I want to be prepared if it comes up in the future.

Heard about the severe depression effect of these.
What class of ABX do flagyl and tinidazole fall in?

I'm allergic to Flagyl, it seems, so I hope I can tolerate the Tindamax. I start tomorrow (keeping fingers crossed).

I'll be your similar-drug buddy!

I'm a-scared about the major Herxing. I was told to start at one per day and go to SIX per day! It's four days on, three days off.

I'm also taking doxy and generic Plaquenil as far as treatment meds. (I'm taking plenty of "deals with side effects" meds and others.)

This oughta be interesting!

Hi All,
I'm starting Flagyl after the new year... I decided to hang on and get Christmas etc out of the way first.

I must say I'm not looking forward to it after reading all your experiences!

Hope you're feeling better Heather, it's encouraging that you seem to be getting over the bad patch- I hope that it continues to improve for you!

I've been taking the UK version of Ceftin for a few months and have felt consistantly better than I have in a long time. My doc has suggested pulsing Flagyl (400mg twice a day) with the Ceftin (375mg twice a day) - ceftin 5 days a week and flagyl for two. Anyone else on this kind of regime? Would it be enough to kill the cyst forms?

Posted by imanurse (Member # 7022) on :

I am doing pretty well today. I am taking 1/2 pill 3x/day now. I am waiting until after Christmas to go to a full dose so that I can try to enjoy the holidays. (wimp) I noticed I have to drink much more water on flagyl.

Merry Christmas!!!

Hi flagyl buddies!

IMA? Has the pain left you yet? I still have little bits here and there. Ok.... not too bad but it's still pain.

My ears have not rung in a few days. No head aches.

Just tired but I still can get things accomplished.

Oh yea....... YEAST! [Eek!] BIG PROBLEMO! Flagyl definately is promoting the yeast. I have diflucan thankfully.

Happy New Year to all!

My doctor put me on a 5 day dose of 1500 mgs per day to get bB into my urine for a DNA analysis. After reading these posts I was pretty scared but didn't feel I could start gradually since it was a 5 day thing.

First 5 doses, I handled just fine. Mild headache was relieved with Advil. Then I took the 6th dose, became very fatigued. Rested and awoke with a sore throat. The pharmacy info listed this as a "very rare but serious side effect". Of course it happened on Friday at 5pm just before New Year's so couldn't reach the doctor. Did not take my evening dose. About an hour later, realized my sore throat was actually swelling along with my tongue. I ran to CVS for Benedryl which took care of the reaction.

No more Flagyl for me.

anyone found flagyl makes them feel really weak & muscle weakness? & sick too?

Posted by LC (Member # 7070) on :

I may start this drug in the next few months.

I know Flagyl is for cyst-busting.

Does cyst form produce active symptoms?

Or do we take flagyl just to rid ourselves from them and prevent them from morphing in to active infection?

Forgot to mention: Flagyl tastes awful!

I dip em in yogurt or olive oil to get em down. Yuck! [puke]

Surfbabe,

Sounds like a herx. I was tired and in pain for 2 wks.

LC,

If you have a die-off of bacteria or herx reaction you could posibly "feel it".

I'm not a doctor just giving my 2 cents.

heatherkiss et al,
i'm back on flagyl after more than a year of avoiding it because of peripheral neuropathy problems. am pulsing three days a week and also taking plaquinol, malarone & doxy. so far (and it's only been a week, I am achy in the arms and hands plus tired and fuzzy. nothing extreme yet.

when i took it in the past I felt sharper in days of taking it. could file again at work. could organize stuff that was sitting in piles.

I think I am feeling a little bit like a brighter bulb on the bush, but it's really too soon to tell.

i think it's the best for cognitive stx.

good luck

I have severe joint pain everywhere today and the foggiest brain!! Glassy eyes, pale, sharp pain in my head, stiff neck, burning in arms and legs and my standard herxing insomnia.

My knuckles and fingers are so inflamed today I look like I have "man hands". [Eek!]

Oh yeah, very b***chy too. [cussing] Poor hubby should have slept in the barn tonight.

Hi Heather and all,
Started Flagyl yesterday - only have to take it for two days each week pulsed with Ceftin the other five days.
I really noticed that I had problems sleeping last night, more than usual, woke up feeling like I'd been hit by a truck, again more than usual. And strange sort of metallic taste in my mouth.

I also woke in the middle of the night with a sudden jump- sort of palpitations, a sudden thump in my chest. Lets hope it doesn't happen again tonight- I need some sleep!

Posted by HEATHERKISS (Member # 6789) on :

Hi Milly,

Yes sleep is definately an issue and I do have to use help. either xanax or ambien.

I like ambien better but can only use it about three days in row without getting a horrible headache.

Hope you get your beauty rest,

Hi Heather,
Thanks for that, I got a better night sleep last night, which was a relief!

I haven't really noticed anything much else with the Flagyl but as I only have to take it for two days a week I wasn't expecting anything dynamic. I just hope that it will be enough to get these pesky bugs out of hiding!

Hope you're improving!

Anyone know how long Flagyl stays in you system for?
I'm only on it for two days a week (Sun Mon)and wondered if I might be allowed to have a glass of wine with my meal say, on the Thursday or Fri.

Milly

I'm on tini, the other cyst buster. I was told the minimum amount of time to be on a cyst buster when pulsing is three days.

Flagyl and Tini have the same warning with regards to alcohol. It states to avoid for three days following discontinuation of the drug.

Hope this helps.
TreePatrol, next year no cyst busters for Penn State games. [tsk] We'll have a beer, ah heck a couple, and a pizza, and dessert, a beer to wash that down, doughnuts, chocolate, peanut M&Ms, and did I tell you peanut M&Ms go good with beer.
OK time to stop. I'm getting hungry or maybe it's thirsty. [confused] [Big Grin]

Tree and Pocono,

I sooooooooooo hear you about the beer. And Milly a glass of wine sounds good. 3 days is what I read on my medicine insert.

Heather,

How 'bout Christmas in July? [Wink]

I've had the same reaction as Tree's wife pretty much. The shoulder pain and aches etc. even the "Buddy". Much less intense this month as compared to last month. Tho I'm on Tini, not Flagyl.

I've decided not to risk having any alcohol, I want to give myself a fair crack at this.

I've been feeling soooo tired again and like treepatrol's wife, I've got a cold sore, so hopefully the fagyl that I took four days ago might be doing something...

Cold sore seems to be a running theme here when on Nitroimidazoles: Flagyl, Tinidazole & Others

Hummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm?

Hi Again,
Interesting about the cold sores... when I was a kid I would get them really badly. I only seem to get them about once a year now. I wonder if there is some relation with herpes simplex to lyme.. and, or, they are affected by the strange affects that lyme has on our immune system. Be great if anyone knows anything about this.

Oh man! I started to get a cold sore. I took the valtrex 3 times yesterday to keep it down. [loco]

My "buddy" is a very normal one. Believe it or not this a relief. [Big Grin]

Slept 11 hours last nite. [dizzy] Glad it's the weekend.

[kiss] I love you all,

Looks like I'm following in your footsteps, Heather. 5 months of yellow paint and Zith didn't work so now it's 500 mg of Flagyl twice a day, 400 mg of Ketek twice a day and 2.4 mu IM Bicillin LA. I guess the Flagyl goes after the Lyme cysts and the Babs.

My left eye aches, my head aches and the pain moves around my head throughout the day. I have Lyme-neck. I must look so silly constantly trying to stretch the ache out! [Roll Eyes] My ear was ringing a little bit last night but I could only hear it when the pillow muffled the ambient sounds so I guess I'm lucky.

MiMoMa, I had that same heart thump just last night! Freaked me out so I lost another hour or so of sleep. I was astounded when I read your post.

And mooody. Sheesh. My husband just keeps hanging in there with me. On another topic, my husband just turned down a job that offered a $20K salary increase because the health insurance was only Kaiser or Blue Shield. All because LD isn't recognized! Grrr! [cussing]

I just keep hoping I'm going to get better, well, well, actually. As a friend said recently, "By having hope, what do you lose?"

Be well,
D

I would LOVE people's input on this!! I am not on flagyl but a different oral abx, but had reached the same kind of point of feeling like I needed to "push through" or back off. In the end it was too much and even my LLMD said to back off.

Is this the rhythm of this disease, then? You get really sick and back off for a bit? Do you really try not to let it get that bad before backing off?

I ask because I really thought I had to keep enduring the awful stuff in order to get better.

I should add that I had a fairly smooth linear improvement for a good while, until the Herxes started in the hugest way ever this year.

I guess it's really an impossible question to answer bec. we are all different, and we are being treated for different things (some of us have co-infections and some not) .... but I was just SO interested to read that maybe one should back off faster than I have been backing off.

Thanks for this great thread. It's very helpful even for those of us on a drug besides flagyl that seems to be getting at the nasty bugs in a very big way.

Warmest good wishes to you all!!

PS

Just to add that I know that none of us is a doctor, and neither am I. Just interested in how long people tend to let it go before backing off, and whether folks hear from their doctors to back off.

I was so relieved when mine told me that it was too much now. But then I wondered, OK, so how do I get better?

You keep running up at it one more time?

Thank you to all and warmest wishes for feeling better!

Hello again all!
This is such a great thread - really supportive for all of us on Fagyl at the mo...

I'm back on mine for the next couple of days - I only started pulsing last week. To start off with I didn't think that anything was happening but over the last couple of days I've had a lot of my old symptoms returning.

I've had major 'lyme brain'fogginess & sharp head pains. More floaters in my eyes than usual. Moodyness / dissatisfaction with everything. All the joint pains & tiredness and a nasty pain in the right side of my stomach that I haven't had for ages! I'm hoping that it's working!

Posted by HEATHERKISS (Member # 6789) on :

Ditto with old pain. Both my flippin' knees hurt. That hasn't happened in a while.

And....... I do have new pain in the top of my shoulders. I've had the shoulder pain typically in my back blade and neck before.

Very irratable. i think that just goes hand in hand with pain.

And sleeping a whole lot.

I saw my LLMD for the first time yesterday, and he ordered IV rocephin, and 1500mg a day of flagyl. After reading everyones posts, I'm not sure I'm looking forward to it! I do realize that everyones reaction is different, but this still scares me.

I am to take one pill the first 3 days, 2 the next 3, and 3 from there on out. Any suggestions?

TIA,

Been on tetracycline 500 3x/d for about 14 days then added flagyl 500 3x/day. Ouch. Came down with a cold (which I never get) then big brain pains, ear pain, teeth pain, neck pain along with enlarged posterior neck lymph nodes. It's the 4th day of flagyl and so far, perhaps the pains are less.

Hope this all means it's killing ketes.

Hi Heather!
Good to see that you're still hanging in there!

I'm just over halfway through my course of flagyl & Ceftin and I think that I am improving. I'm still having problems sleeping on the days that I take flagyl. No other problems with it.

I have had an improvement in my tiredness though and I've been feeling quite positive and cheerful which I have been surprised to find, given all the evidence of others being depressed while taking flagyl. Perhaps I'm just not taking the high doses that can cause depression.

Hi Flagyl folks,

Well, I get off work in an hour and at home will be a Rx for flagyl for me. I have 4 grams of tini left so I will flagyl it until my fasygyn arrives.

I have been hitting the niacin with tini/doxy/diflucan/artemesinin/samento and JEEBUS the herx's are grand sometimes. Drooling, balance (gone), and flu-ey feeling. I sleep fine thank God. Next day I get citrus in me I am usually a small notch better.

Hoping flagyl is not too mean.

I'm on Flagyl 500 mg 3x/day and its evil!
Its stirring up my Lyme something fierce. It starts with twitching, then arthritis, joint flares, and brain fog, then the fevers! AHHH!

On it for c.diff, not Lyme and its a beast to take, esp. the taste, I dont want to eat ANYTHING because it makes me so nauseous. Waaa. I am sure its doing good though, just hard to take. [bonk]

Hi all.........husband is on his 5th day of Flagyl and having a good response so far!

First day or two, his knees and elbows ached....same way he was on the Doxy. The Zith never did much for him, but make him feel bad. I guess it did it's thing though. Part of the protocol.

Anyway, the Flagyl seems to be working. He says his head feels better.......and his "thinking" and speech is doing better.

He itched like crazy Saturday night....all over his body.

He's going to slow his dose down tomorrow, cause he may be going into a herx. His face was very red tonight. Can always tell when he's going to herx, cause his face turns so red.

He also had a period of blurry vision this morning.....said it lasted a couple of hours. That's always worrisome, but it does mean things are happening.

So far, he's liking the Flagyl. The response has been great, and his brain fog has been so much better.

Good luck all!

Oh.......sorry.......just wanted to add. My husband started trying to describe a thing with his chest tonight. I didn't have a clue what he was talking about. Said it wasn't pain, or anything. Then said it was a breathing thing....that was weird.

I didn't even THINK of the "air hunger" thing.... I realize now that is probably what he was feeling.

Gotta read about that now. Sheesh......I'm bummed cause I didn't realize what he was talking about.

My 12yo son is on day 2 of flagyl and is having stomach distress. He is also cold, then hot. The girls (10) have mentioned being achy but not much else.

Everyone is pretty tired and sleeps later than they use to. Youngest is the only one not taking flagyl . . . . yet.

Hubby is doing okay.

We now have schedules for everything.

Yes flagyl made me very tired. But can you believe I can't go to sleep unless I take a xanax.

Now waking up is kinda a bother but once I get going there's no stoping me.

Today was a pretty darn good day.

Just a few shocks thru my body and the weird pain in the vein thing.

Hi all you cyst bustering peoples!

Just wanted to pop my head in here coz I am on a cyst busting combo too, but it is a bit old school: It is the Plaquenil, amoxy, probenecid thing.

The plaq makes the body alkeline or something and that makes the cysts more vulnerable to busting up by the amxoy or something? I dont get it and I didnt believe it until I started having the most intense herx of crazy pain pain pain all over my body.

ANyhow--I am experiencing MUCH the same things as you guys, so I might just have to barge in here every once in a while.

COLD SORES---here's something wierd: I was getting them the same time you all got them too! ISnt that BIZARRO? Mid January. Wierd.

Heather,

Have you seen improvement on the Flagyl? I understand all the herxing, but was interested in whether you thought it was working. How long do you expect to be on it?

I have been on plaquenil, Vibramyacin, and Claryhtramyacin (sp?) for about 6 weeks and have had some moderate herxing, nothinkg like yours. I am doing must better the last couple of days and hope this lasts.

I am also interested to know how everyone on the board was diagnosed with Lyme. I had 3 positive bands on the western blot and many of the clinical symptoms (although nothing obvious like the massive knee swelling you read about). My LLMD is not certain it is Lyme, but thinks it is likley and is treating it as such anyway. Other doctors (even one who was LL) would not have treated me at all becasue I did not have the requisite 5 bands. I am interested in others' experiences to help confirm my diagnosis.

I am also interested in learning more about how Flagyl effects Bb.

Thanks

NH Steve

Hi,

I've been treated for 13 mounths now. I've been on 1000 ceftin 4 days and 1000 Bixin 3 days for 30 days. And having a rough time with traviling joint pain and tendon tightness, like all of my tendons are shrinking. wakes me up at 3am every morning.

I am to start Flagyl, 250 mg 3x day, Saturday and am nervous after reading these posts. My doctor says I might feel bad for a day or two.
I am working full time and am worried if I feel much worse, I'll have to start taking time off.

Then again I feel hope full maybe the Flagyl will be the abx that will work for me.

Thank you every one for sharin your experince, Strength and hope.

Just venting

three words about some it up.... I HATE flagyl.

I cannot for the life of me get up to 250mg three times a day without losing my ability to walk. After several days of talking 2 pills, I get brave enough to take 3 and then my herx gets too severe. I take a day off, then start slowly back up again. This is insane. I should have been done with this bottle long ago.

Adding the heparin made it even worse.

It also makes a person feel really down and hopeless. yuck.

I have been able to work 3 days per week for the past 2 weeks. Yipee!

I did suffer for years with daily headaches before diagnosis.

Who knows? I'll ask the LLMD on monday.

Flagyl,
I am in my 4th week kind of....my first week i started on 750 mgs (so stupid), I thought I was going to die....anxiety/panic non stop HYPER sensitivity to everything my clothing, the rug beneath my feet, my cotton bed sheets, I couldnt sleep at all, I was super parnoid (musta really got in the brain)...

my doc said and i quote"lets stop for a week....if you feel better your going back on it...we will start out slower"....

so I came off a week felt GREAT so I knew I had to go back on...(he put me on valuim which helped alot through the neuro suff)

Now im back in my 3rd full week at 750 mgs a day and I have had nothing but significant improvement neurologically since the flagyl I have it paire with 2 grams of IV rocephin (in my 10th month of that)....

I do have chronic bathroom problems now though that started with the flagly may be the drug may be yeast not sure taking nystain not really helping with my diareah (SP?) but its dealable....Jill

Oh and I am super fatigued by afternoon which a symptom that cleared up for me long ago, and is back now wonder if its the flagyl???

Hi Heather & all,
Well, I've just finished my course of Flagyl & Ceftin. I've been taking the Ceftin for about 6 months and started pulsing with Flagyl for seven weeks.

Not really sure where I'm at now, I have been feeling a lot of my old symptoms returning so I'm not sure if that is herx. I stopped taking a lot of my supplements because I wanted to see what might be working and what wasn't, so it might be that.

I'm to have a break for a few weeks from the abx and see what happens. I'm bracing myself!

Take care all, MMM

Hey Heather,

Glad to hear you are doing so well.

I have an appt tomorrow with our LLMD.

I stopped the flagyl since it was for another infection. Towards the end i was having a lot of foot burning. I dont think I herxed much if at all.

Im still having a lot of bladder problems...and burning.

Firecop,
Yes! I have been very tired on Flagyl.

Mimoma,
Good luck on your abx break!

Can'tgiveup,
You've probably have been herxing all along. So the antibiotics have been working at killing the lyme bacteria and maybe a coinfection.

Bartenella can make your heels or the bottoms of your feet hurt. Weird symptom huh?

HEATHERKISS,
Just saw this post for the first time today. I believe you and I and can'tgiveup yet are seeing the same LLMD.
I started Flagyl two weeks ago today. Worked up from 250mg to 750mg per day over the first week.
I haven't been working these past two weeks so I don't know whether or not that is having an effect.
I am still using my walker, and some days the six steps to the bathroom from bed are six too many, but I am actually getting painfree HOURS. This is the most progress I've shown to date.

Hope it's going well with you.

I don't have headaches but I do a lot of sleeping.

Well,

It's about 3 1/2 months on flagyl and doryx. I just keep feeling better.

Working 3 days a week has become an easier goal. I can clean and cook on the same day. Laundry takes only a day as apposed to a whole weekend.

I can actually go to bed and [Roll Eyes] 11pm and wake up at 7:30am [Razz]

This month my "friend" was normal and I didn't get tired.

Please anyone on flagyl post their herxes...... experiences and outcomes on this post. I noticed a few newbies asking about flagyl.

Jump on. Tell us whats going on. This is in the newbies link and could help others.

Hi Heather and all,
Glad to hear that you're still improving Heather, that's great news!

I've been off ABX for about four weeks now. I've just gone down with my first cold in a couple of years so I'm feeling particularly crappy at the moment! But I'm hoping that its a sign that perhaps my immune system might be starting to work properly.

I'm going to give it another month and see how things go without ABX - I don't feel as good as I did while I was taking them so I may have to go back on again.

One very prominent neuro thing that I have noticed since stopping Flagyl is that I don't feel as emotionally stable as I did while I was taking them.

love to all of you, MMM

I'm adding Ceftin to my Mino tomorrow and then 4 days later....Flagyl.

Kathy,
I was really scared too, after reading about all the Flagyl experiences here. I have been on 1500 mg a day for 3 months (+ 2 gm IV Rocephin). I have not had any major herxing. I also didn't see any real improvement, but lately things are going in reverse. I guess it could be my way of herxing.

If I've learned nothing else about Lyme, it's that everybody is different, and everyone seems to react differently to whichever medicine they are on, depending on alot of different criteria.

In the last couple of weeks I have started to stutter again, severe fatigue, burning skin,
and the most painful and burning feet I could ever imagine...getiing worse every day.

The only worse thing has been the depression and crying jags....horrible!

I see him on Thurs, and I'm pretty sure he's going to change my meds. This time I'm not going to read about everyone elses reactions to whatever drug he puts me on til later.....I want to see how I feel on it first.

Best of luck, and try not to worry, you're killing those little beasts!

Jill

Hi Kathy,

I've been on flagyl and doryx for 4 months now.(I think... not good at keeping track)

Anyway it started out tough. Looking back it is so worth it. I worked up just like you are going to do.

Start with one pill a day for 2 days. Then 2 a day for 2 days... and on and on. I could not tolerate 500mg 3x a day.

I only take 500 2x a day and it has been plenty.

I feel smart again. I do alot less of walking from room to room trying to remember what I'm doing.

Good luck and healing thoughts your way,

I started Flagyl 4 days ago. I am only suppose to take a small sliver of a 250mg tablet once a day for now. I can't believe that small of amount could make me sick, but it does. It tastes terrible too. I just get really tired feeling, with a headache, my head feels spacey, and it gives me a stomachache.

I don't think I'll ever be able to take a huge dose, but hopefully I will be able to take more then I am taking now.

It's still better then the tachycardia I had on Erythromycin.

I don't care that you can't have alcohol while on the Flagyl, because ever since I got sick I get really sick from alcohol anyway.

Hi, I'm starting Flagyl tomorrow, wish me luck! Dr. has me at 500 mg 2x/day for 10 days on 10 off-- what dose and pulse is anyone else using? Only other thing I'm on is Ketek right now.

My 15 y.o. daughter (who weighs about 112) has been taking 250 mg. 2x/day of Flagyl, pulsed 14 days on and 14 days off. During her second course, she developed tingling in her finger and hand so I stopped 3 days early. I need to call her doctor to see whether we should start up again when the 14 days off is over.

I get alot of burning sensations. I'm on doryx and flagyl 2x a day. no pulsing.

No breaks. I was told I can stop when I'm 100%.

Was the tingling really bad? Was your duaghter freaking out?
