Hi oil of oregano users! -

I've been putting a drop or two under my tongue once a day.

It's supposed to be an immune booster and antiviral. I hope it's good at the latter.

I'm so tired of taking valtrex 3x a day. The past 2 days I've just taken valtrex 1x. I'd like to cut it out completely to save my liver the work. Or is it kidneys?

Anyway...... Is there anyone who quit valtrex w/ the help of oil of oragano? And what else is oil of oregano used for?

Heather,

I could be wrong but I believe oil of oregano is suggested for yeast...not as an antiviral.

I have used it in the past with probiotics while on abx's...tastes swell does'nt it?

Anyway...I mixed about five drops in water and drank it down...can't imagine having that taste under my tongue...yuk...

The oil of oregano can also be used for acne. However, Oregacyn P73 which includes wild oregano, is very successfully used for yeast. It works!

I use it and so do my 2 children for yeast. It is the best for yeast.

There is a wide range of medicinal uses for oregano oil.

Cass Ingram's book is a wonderful (IMO essential) reference if you are going to use this seriously.
-- just a paperback, but packed with info and references.

Also, like with any herb, IMO you need a high quality source. And a high quality source of oregano can be very potent, that's whay I reccomend the book.

Herbs have to be used carefully, like any other medicines.

I think there are many sources on the web for the book:

i can hardly stand the pill form of the oil of oregano, let alone the drops.

i used it for yeast. I don't use it all the time, however. it cleared up a problem in a week of taking a couple of pills a day.

good luck

I just read somewhere that it is a great cure for the flu...have no idea if it's true or not. I have a bottle, but have not opened it.

Ravensara and geranium essential oils are better antiviral essential oils. Oregano oil is a better antifungal.

I took other essential oils diluted in vegetable oil, 10-15% dilution, and took 1-3 drops of those towards the end of fighting Lyme and it worked better than any antibiotics I took.

I found that they were easier to tolerate for me than oil of oregano.

I had been using essential oils externally previously to that, and they helped me tremendously that way also.

That was the main component of my road to recovery.

If you do use essential oils internally, they have to be from a reputable source, they have to be highly diluted in vegetable oil, and only some are suitable for internal use.

They go straight through the skin and into the bloodstream when used externally, so external use can be very, very effective to treat Lyme and all the other tbd's people have.

They also cross the blood-brain barrier because the molecules are so small, and they can fight Lyme in the central nervous system quite well as a result.

They cause huge herxes, which is perhaps the hardest part of using them when you have Lyme.

Anyway, I don't think I used anything more powerful against this illness to fight it, and that includes the oral and intravenous antibiotics I took.

Herbs worked better for me when my bacterial load was already lower, and I had much fewer symptoms.

But at the height of illness, essential oils were pretty much the only thing that got me and kept me on the steady road to recovery.

New research on oil of oregano shows it kills H5N1 in the lab.

By Dr. Meg Jordan, PhD, RN, Global Medicine Hunter
**********

New Research on Oil of Oregano

I interviewed Dr. Cass Ingram on my radio program last week, and he
shared the groundbreaking research on oil of oregano in the form of
Oregacyn P73 Respiratory Support. These capsules are taken 3 times
daily and for extreme cases, 2 capsules every 1 to 2 hours.

According to Dr. Ingram, "the P73 didn't just hinder H5N1's
growth in the lab, it slaughtered it." Ingram got a call from Vice
President Cheney asking him if he stockpiles barrels of the stuff. "I
don't stockpile oil-that's your job," was the doctor's blunt
response.

The research is expected to be published soon in the Journal of
Antiviral Research. I promise to keep you posted. Ingram noted that
this is not just any oil of oregano, but a super strength form. "Plus
it took 25 doses for the slaughtering to occur...H5N1 is one tough
bug."

For mild cases of typical flu:

1. Load up on black elderberry extract, one of the best natural
remedies for shortening the duration of a cold or flu. You can safely
take 1 tsp four to six times per day.

2. There are several different Chinese herbs (Yin Ciao is the most
popular) available now.

3. Cold-Fx has good science behind it. These tablets contain
oligosaccharides from North American ginseng which activate natural
killer cells and macrophages.

4. Oscillococcinum helps some people - but others have found no
effect. It's one of those natural remedies that works some of the
time for some of the people-kind of like conventional medicine in
general. I found it works if taken early enough.

5. My friend and renowned nutritionist Liz Lipski, PhD, CCN, recommends
sage-lemon-garlic tea to limit the effects of tea. She flavors it with
honey to get the steeped brew down. More of Dr. Lipski's wisdom at

Fever: Not all that bad

My thinking on fever follows the same lines as noted holistic doctor,
Ron Hoffman, MD. Fever is the body's attempt to "cook" a pathogen
and houseclean the system. If you suppress a fever too much or too
often, you hinder the body's ability to ward off attacks. We now have
data showing that mild cases of childhood infections that have
successful resolution are often linked with fewer cancers later in
life. The cutting edge of medical research is looking at this
connection between our ability to conquer bacteria and virus naturally,
and our capacity to detect and demolish cancer cells.

So if a fever is mild or low-grade (under 101 F) then climb in bed,
rest and sweat it out for one night; it's likely you'll be better
by morning. If you load up on cold and flu remedies and never let the
fever do its clean-up work, then often the flu is prolonged.

If the fever climbs over 102, then by all means, control it with
anti-pyretics such as Tylenol. Children can tolerate a slightly higher
temperature than adults. Always stay well hydrated during a
fever-drink plenty of juices and fresh water.

Counting on the Government: Unwise

I just attended the TIME Global Health Summit and heard from experts at
WHO and CDC, along with scientists and health ministers from around the
world. The general agreement was that the Bush avian bird flu plan of
supplying 20 millions vaccine shots (when and if one is developed) was
"too little, too late."

Dr. Irwin Redlener, director of the National Center for Disaster
Preparedness said the country's waiting so long to address the threat
of an avian flu pandemic is the "biological equivalent of not fixing
the levees" in New Orleans before Hurricane Katrina struck.

Another virology expert said that "Tamiflu will be worthless in no
time; don't bother stockpiling it." Most of Big Pharma present
confided that flu vaccine has not been an attractive endeavor due to
low profit margins; the number of companies producing flu vaccine has
plummeted in the last five years, according to Wall St Journal
(11//8/05).

With all that doom and gloom and an "inevitable" pandemic predicted
by WHO officials in Geneva this week, perhaps it's just best to use
common sense: avoid crowds, wash your hands as if you had a case of OCD
(obsessive-compulsive disorder), and go with the oil of oregano
antiviral and other immune-boosting remedies like good nutrition,
plenty of rest, and stress management.

Think through all your options carefully. If you've had good success
with flu shots in the past, then keep up that regimen. However, the flu
vaccine that will halt this pandemic in its tracks is yet to be made or
tested. That's why Big Pharma is insisting on a waiver of
liability-you won't be able to sue if the flu shot makes you sick
or kills someone. That alone should give you pause, or send you to that
cabin in the woods.

Well yesterday I had to take 3 valtrex to keep a cold sore from coming out.

I'm going to bump up to two drops two times a day.

I'll let everyone know,

Oh yea the drops are working for yeast definately.

I just tried my first drop in a glass of water last night. I felt a buzz for about 2 hours-almost like I had one too many. Has anyone else had that reaction?

Aer you using pure oregano oil, not cut in a carrier oil?

If so, (and of quality source) that is very potent stuff.

Then I would imagine a reaction like you have had would be something it was attacking..
yeast or countless other potential organisms.

Make sure you proceed carefully with this stuff, if not with the help of a naturopath, then be sure and detox effectively (water, keep colon and liver clean) ..so debris has a way out.

Also, IMO you should grab Cass Ingram's book if you are going to stay with this.
Remember, it will kill good bacteria as well, so be sure and replenish good, live pro-biotics at intervals away from the time you take the oil.

Interesting article, Brent..

I keep mine with me all the time.
It is also amazing for burns when applied right away..
however the pure oil will also burn skin itself..
so be careful and I suggest anyone using it read up all you can ( as with any herb)

I keep diluted oregano with me also for insect bites.

Has anyone else had an allergic type reaction to Oil of Oregano capsules? I do have allergies to grasses and mold.

I had tightness in my throat and chest with it, so I am wary of trying it again. I am trying Theralac now and am hoping that will do the job.

I am also taking Diflucan twice a week. I really was hoping to be able to use the Oil of Oregano to decrease the amount of prescription drugs I take. Any thoughts?

Pure wild oil of oregano has been having positive results.

I do 1-2 drops almost every day.

I'm going to try and cut the valtrex back and I have cut back on diflucan.

just curious here; what sort of essential oils have people been taking against, or to relieve symptoms of Lyme?

And how did it work?

Ravensara and geranium essential oils are better antiviral essential oils as per farah in the above post.

I'm going to order these.

Still on oil of oregano. haven't been taking it regular enough. Have yeast.

So I'll be taking oil of oregano everyday again.

Hi Heather,

I have a pretty significant Candida problem, and my LLMD had me do a week of Diflucan followed by Oil of O.

ADP brand- 50mgs tid (3x a day)

I am continuing with the Oil of O.

I didn't know that it should be kept away from Pro-biotics (Theralac), is that really so Miss Maureen? Would a couple of hours work?

I am doing Theralac tid too...so this is beginning to get sort of complicated.

I'm also doing Artemisinin...can the Oil of O be used at the same time as that?

Thanks for any insights,
M

Heather,

If you're using the Valtrex to kill herpes viruses, why not try the supplement Monolaurin, also called Lauricidin or Lauric Acid?

Do a search - there are some posts about it.

I'm about to start it again. It's one of the many things I used to cure myself of viruses associated with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome decades ago. Now with Lyme, I've got viral issues again and told my LLMD that I plan to use Monolaurin. He also wants me to go back on Olive Leaf Extract.

Monolaurin/Lauricidin is specifically good against Epstein-Barr, several of the herpes viruses, etc.

I used oil of oregano (diluted in water) on a gum infection and it cleared up immediately. Just soaked a cotton swab in the solution and rub it on the gums.

I also used it diluted in olive oil on a cut tht was beginning to get infected on my hand and it healed. You need to dilute it, though, otherwise it burns the skin. Hiker

Well....I've been using Oreganol only as my treatment for the last 2 months...12 drops in juice twice a day...no other Abx, etc.

Actually was feeling pretty good and ready to come on here and announce that I found my 'magic bullet'until about a week ago...and, wham! I've been hit with a monster flair in symptoms out of no-where that have continued. I don't think it's a herx either [confused]

So, guess I'll be back to Dr. P. and try another round of new Abx [Mad]

Dave, HOW can you possibly take 12 drops in a glass of juice?

I take ONE (1) drop in a glass of half juice, half water, half a dropper of periwinkle, half a dropper of Red Root tincture, twice a day and it burns my lips and mouth and throat so bad I can hardly get it down.

For my third time a day, I leave out the Oil of Oregano.

I do not use the wildcrafted though. The stuff I use is Certified Organic from StarWest Essential Oils. IT is Organum vulgare.

Prior to this I tried taking it in capsule form, but I was having trouble with my skin burning around my illeostomy, so quit it and didn't take any for quite awhile. But started this regimen a little over a month ago.

I use this drink I make up for taking my herbal pills three times a day, but like I said, I do not put in the Oil of Oregano in the third drink at night.

I also tried putting a drop under my tongue when I first got this bottle and thought my mouth was going to burn up. So I didn't use this liquid stuff for awhile either.

It does stand to reason that not much will live in this oil. I have and read the book by Dr. Cass. HE strongly pushes the WILD Oregano, but I see he has interest in the company that he recommends. So, that plus the price held me back from buying his brand.

Course this StarWest brand was not real cheap either. IF I remember right it was about $14 for this little 1/3 ounce bottle.

I do NOT think I would stop all my other herbs and just take Oil of Oregano though. JMHO.

Jim

Yeah Jim....

When I tried to put the drop(s) under my tongue, I couldn't handle it either.

The 12 drops in juice is no picnic, but I can bear it pretty good. Just not sure it's doing anything thing for the keets!

I'll probably trudge on but, I'm about 2 weeks into a flair in symptoms and I've been off all Abx now for about 3 months. Quite possible a relapse!

Posted by farah (Member # 8496) on :

I think geranium or ravensara are better antiviral essential oils to use in the place of valtrex than oregano.

I agree that twelve drops of oregano oil(even diluted in 15% concentration the way it is usually sold) in juice sounds extreme.

There are other oils that I think hit the Lyme disease better, and that aren't so irritating. If the oregano is not working like it used to for you, Dave, then you may consider getting educated about the other essential oils and their uses.

I think it is better to use a combination of oils to discourage the bacteria's ability to build up resistance. The bacteria doesn't seem to build up anything near the level of resistance to essential oils that it does to antibiotics, but it still does a bit. Using a combo reduces this issue.

The other thing is that if some spirochetes that were walled off just came out of hiding, you will have symptoms all of a sudden, even if you are taking something that is effective at killing them, until all of those keets die off.
