Has anyone experienced hightened emotions with Lyme? About three months ago I started tearing up and getting emotional when watching some things on TV. It was like I was crying for no apparent reason! Is this typical or not a Lyme symptom at all (neurological??)? It is kind of freaking me out since I know some other conditions (ALS) can cause that.

Yes - I am all over the board at times... Crying over everything, irritable, and having outbursts at trivial things...

It goes hand in hand with Lyme... I notice it gets worse in flares, herxes, or during my period.....

Its hard b.c when I feel this way I know that I am not being reasonable or myself but its like this thing in my brain takes over....

It has only happened to me once, but I felt so good afterwards.

Heightened emotions can also be a symptom of bartonella. Worth having it checked out.

Yes it is very common with lyme. Don't worry it gets better as you get the proper treatment for you.

Lyme is a very physical illness, but also extremely mental/emotional and spiritual illness. All avenues need to be address for healing.

Take care, Pam

I used to hold myself togethher like a champ. For lack of better terms, I am a nutcase now. Most of the time I don't know why I'm crying.

Am all over the place with my emotions.

Very common with lyme but gets way out-of-control when I herx.

but when my mind gets too blank so does my emotions.I don't know what is worse.

Thanks, guys. Do you find yourself searching for words? My fiance thinks I am crazy because I will say something like "The pen is in the ..." and I am looking right at it and I keep saying "you know...the...what is that thing called right there." He says, "Drawer?" and I say "Yes." Alzheimers moment!

I feel like I am going crazy. I also switch letters a lot when typing...I used to type quite well without errors and now I spend most of my time correcting what I have typed!

I had to look at my drivers license to remember my name a couple weeks ago. I not only forget what I'm trying to say, I now stutter. After years of acting and speech lessons, it's devestating to me. I keep saying this dumb disease is making me stupid, but I took an IQ test yesterday and scored 131... I don't feel so bad now, but I would still like people I meet to know I'm not "slow."

Looking back now, the searching for words started for me in May of last year......i didnt think anything of it as it ony happend a few times. I blamed it on stress. now i know better. It happens more frequently and worse when i herx. I also switch usually the last two letters of words i type....so annoying. Some words also dont look right to me once typed.

My emotions are all over the place and find myself saying i dont know why i am crying. I even cry at my desk at work sometimes......which i never would have done before. [bonk]

I'm glad to hear everyone say this. I have felt like a weirdo, because my emotions have gotten the better of me a bunch of times. I know part of it is frustration that I'm not well yet and I'm trying as hard as I know how and part of it is sleep deprivation.

Some days I handle it better than others.

I guess I'm not alone.

OMG, do I ever get emotional swings with this cruddy disease!!!!!!!!! Someone thought I was bipolar. I mean one minute I am pretty happy and content. The next? Ready to rip someones head off or go off in a corner and ball my eyes out. Its horrible!!

I cant tolerate antidepressants so taking those are out of the question. I wonder if going on birth control would maybe help?

Oh just the same for me. My hubby knows what the pauses while I talk mean...he waits. It's like the words come into my brain in a sentence and I see them and I know what it means...I just can't put words together fast enough to speak...at times.

Sometimes I won't even join in conversations with people because I know it is a time I can not process words. Boy do I feel stupid sometimes.

With treatment I have gotten much better. Stress makes it (everything) worse for me. Also, I do take 150mg Effexor. My LLMD said it helps people with nuero Lyme...and it has.

Best to you, Shar <><

Same thing here for my hubby. He tries to hide the emotional thing (it's a man thing)....but I can tell he's all over the place sometimes.

He's doing better though...seems a bit better, but it continues to be slow progress.

Cantgiveup, my hubby's problems started about the same time yours did.......May of last year was when I really knew he was having problems. He couldn't think of common words, like hammer or nail. It was all so strange. He did a lot of pointing and gesturing. I did a lot of guessing at what he wanted to say. He's doing better now, but still has bad days. I think it all relates to herx type reactions.

I agree, stress makes it all worse for him.

He is doing better though, slow progress......

When I read of the people on here who have been sick for years and years, I feel we are pretty lucky to be where we are.

Take care all.
