Does anyone get these short, stabbing pains at the side of the head? I get mine a few times a day (new symptom) and they are quite scary. Anyone else getting them? Any advice?

Thank you!

Yes I used to have these occasionally and they do frighten you. You worry you're having a brain stroke or something.

I haven't had one them in two years.

Take care, Pam

my 11yo daughter gets them often. THey are nasty and not much helps with the pain. Sometimes she will only get one and sometimes she gets clusters throughout the day.

I also had these stabbing pains in the head, they were pretty fear filling! They came more often when I was at the height of overwhelm after not being diagnosed for at least 15 years or up to 30 years...this summer. Been on abx treatment for four months and there is much less frequency of the stabbing pains in my head although they still occur.

I'm on tetracycline and recently flagyl and have the stabbing head pains, ear pain, teeth pain, neck pain...oh what a delight...

The head pains are scary...not to mention a challenge to function under...just hope nothing bursts.

Hello,

Yes, I had these "ice pick stabs" in my ear & eye quite severely back in the pre-dx days!!! IT was the MOST frightning symptom...

Sorry to say, they still happen after almost 14 years. They are less painful and don't happen very often, but the eye ones really, really scare me!

BTW, eyesight is "ok", the hearing is still a little muffled. Testing revealed some hearing loss of lower tones. The worst is trying to listen to a man with a low soft voice in busy room. I just can't hear clearly.

Good luck to you

That is my signature symptom. I get it FREQUENTLY. WHile on ANY ABX and while NOT on ABX.

USually left sided, but sometimes right sided. SOmetimes so bad I almost choke if I am eating.

I have had MRI's and other tests and everything is norm.

It is considered to be a typical lyme symptom.

I had them very severely in 1991 when first bitten and not yet diagnosed.

THe spirochetes really like to hang out in the brain and nervous system.

no advice on how to deal...since they are so sudden and short lived, I just let people around me know...I say---INcoming---and then PPPOOOOFF,
it is over.

strange,
trails

These kind of ice pick headaches are considered a variant of migraines. I've been lucky that taking Topamax prophylacticly for my migraines also has reduced the number and severity of these ice pick headaches.

They are really scary. Mine always come in exactly the same location, so I was convinced it meant something was gonna blow, but there was nothing showing up on any scans.

I used to get stabbing pains in my head, my eye, my side, back, legs, just about everywhere at some point before I began therapy. Thankfully I haven't had these sx for a while since I've been on abx.

I think I was diagnosed w/ LD relatively quickly compared to some others on this board, so maybe I'm recovering a little easier. At least I hope that's the case.

I hope you'll see improvement soon w/your abx.
Hang in there.

Yes, I get these now on the Left side-they used to be right sided. Usually flare ups come during hormonal times with me. They can sometimes last for half aday. I notice that they go away after I ovulate or after my menses.

Yup!

I've had all kind s of head aches including quick stabbing one.

It goes away eventually with abx. I usually have some type of new headache w/ new abx.

Sometimes a quiet dark room helps until the advil kicks in.

I usualy take advil at the slightest inkling of a headache. It's hard to aliviate the pain once the headache is full on.

Yes this is a new symptom for me. It has taken

the place of what I used to call the "Brain

freeze without ice cream". Where it would feel

like my brain would swell and be cold inside. I

have exchanged it

for a pain that feels like I got whacked with a

meat clever from my right temple, above my ear

all the way back to just above the lymph node

back there. When it happens I almost fall over

and lose my breath it is so intense. I have a

normal MRI. No spect yet. I'll see what the

LLneuro says at my appt tomorrow?
