Hi All...thx in advance for your replies...

I recently had an allergic reaction to Septra (Sulfa drug). This was after having taken it in a combo successfully a cpl months ago.

I had a small blister/hive show up on my shoulder, and pathes of red on my torso area that itched. This was part of a new 3 week combo regimen along with Zith. A combo I had taken successfully a couple times before.

I only took two pills (1st day) and that evening the itching and pin-prick-like pain started. I stopped...as i knew something was wrong. The next day I went back on the last successful combo (Zith/Mepron),and it subsided and spots/pin pain went away.

The random pin-prick pain shots remind me of when I DID have a Herpes Zoster blister outbreak on my shoulder when I was a kid (13 yrs old or so).

Are all these abx and Lyme going to stir that up again? The pain feels JUST like those Herpes blisters I had...but not that bad...YET!

I am in touch with my LLMD. They thought my reaction to the Septra might lead to Stevens-Johnson syndrome if I didn't stop the Sepra. Anyone ever have a reaction like this?

I'm trying to keep positive/not worry, because I remember the zoster actually attaches to nerves...and if you get upset, they hurt worse!

Just seeing if anyone has been through this before or has any advice...

B

That could be it immune system slumping then kicking in and that would be the possible reaction.
Watch lymthnodes too.

Hi,

Herpes Zoster is shingles, right?

Shingles happens when the immune system is weak. It's caused by the chicken pox virus and affects the nerves.

The other thing it could be is Bartonella reacting to the Septra. Bart is sometimes treated with Septra. Red pin pricks is a Bart symptom.

Definitely talk to LLMD and even PCP about possible shingles.

Hope this helps,

Corgilla

Several lymies, including me, have had an episode of shingles during our illness. This was my first, and only episode. I do not associate it with any meds, but with immune system not putting up a good fight against persisting infectious agents.

Not saying you had shingles, but it is a possibility.

I understand it is possible to become allergic to a drug at any point, even one you have taken before. Any chance of getting an allergist to look into it? Septra is used for lyme, some people think it works well, but there are other drugs, if it turns out you really are allergic.

Thx everyone...

The symptoms have subsided and did not go further than the one small round hive/blister (more of a hive I believe), itchy dull red spots, and the prickly pain in random areas of my body.

Lymphnodes are ok. Energy seems to be ok too.

No "outbreak" of the zoster thank God. I am staying away from Sulfa drugs from here on out. Hopefully this won't be an issue for treatment.

Thx Lou...always appreciate your expertise!

Caat...no the rash/spots did not look like the ones on that website.
