What have been people's experiences with neuro-cognitive testing? (I think that's what it's called). The neuro I am seeing said that this would be another test I could have done and that it takes several hours. I said I would think about it and get back to him.
Can anyone give me more details as to what's involved? Also, since I have already been diagnosed with lyme (clinically, blood test, spect scan, etc) do you think this will this give any new info that will actually help in treatment?

David, are you still working? Would results be used for SSDI, social security disability insurance, app?
I did a search using "neuro testing" in medical area and in SUBJECT line, below are the many posts with replies on THIS subject. Please read.
We have repeat questions over & over. So try search; this new format works fast; other one didn't work at all so you joined at the right time.
Neuropsychological testing (or neurocognitive) is used to figure out just what the brain damage that the SPECT scan showed is doing to you.
Neuropsych tests for things like depression, auditory processing, visual processing, speed processing, short- and long- term memory, and IQ.
The testing is a series of coordination and paper-and-pencil tests, much like what you get on an IQ exam. They can take several hours, depending upon which tests are performed, and how slow you are!
Like bettyg said, the tests might help determine that you are severely impaired, for access to disability insurance. They are also a diagnostic tool for some, as there is a pattern of dysfunction that is typical for patients with Lyme.
They might also lead to some cognitive therapy -- brain exercises designed to increase your function in those areas that have been messed up by Lyme.

Hi, My NeuroPsych tests took six hours over a two day period. They included an IQ test where no paper and pencils were allowed, since that could hide some of the damage. I had to do all the math problems in my head, ugh!
The main benefits I got from testing were: 1)confirmation that my brain is really messed up, and not just imagining it or weak or mentally ill.
2) When SSDI saw my test results, they changed my required disability reviews from once every 3 yrs. to once every 10 yrs. That took a lot of stress off of me.
I was super depressed for a couple of weeks when I found out how much brain damage I had, but it is always better to know, IMO. I stopped day dreaming about going back to work, and started to make the best of my new life, such as it is.
I felt it was very worthwhile to have this done.

What about this testing for 6 year children? Does it take just as long for the testing for little ones and what about the cost? Is it covered by insurance? thanks, Robin

Robin, I have no knowledge about kids, but we have 1 or 2 neuro testers online and they share basic info with us.
My 3 tests cost $1,000 including the 2 appts. before & after: memory, intelligence, & MMPI, Minn. multi-phastic index for 567 true/false questions with "and, or, but" in each quesion leading you to go either way!
My wellmark/BC/BS plan 3 covered this. I believe I paid only $15 co-pay per visit = $60 since I'd MAXED my limit earlier by having sleep study done showing apnea & 2 overnight hospital stays = $10,000 for insurance company.
