It seems like 400 mg/day of doxy is very common on this board. But I was wondering doesn't that depend on your size/weight? For instance, a 100 lb person wouldn't take the same dose as a 250 lb person...right? Maybe we can take a poll on doxy dose and weight.

Unless you're a child or perhaps incredibly tiny, 400 mg a day (split in two) is the standard starting dose. Definitely not less. (Though non-LLMD's will ALWAYS give you less!)

jwenny,

Not necesarily, what good llmds do is start off at a low dosage and increase until bloodwork indicates that the patient is getting the correct dosage. This "correct dosage" is different for people even at the same weight.

It all boils down to what you can tolerate, and what levels are actually getting into the bloodstream.

it depends - should be about 6 mg per kg per day.

oh one more question...how can you tell what's the correct dose? is it done clinically or through blood tests? what i mean clinically is do you just keep increasing the dose and as long as you don't feel sick then that means you can tolerate it? or is there some blood tests that is done that actually measures the doxy level?

thanks a million!

I have never been on more than 300mg of Doxy a day. At this dose all of my symptoms have gone.

To me the right thing to consider is how much do you need of any drug to acomplish the task. These drugs are not without side-effects, either now or down the road.

No one can say for sure that 300,400 or 600mg of Doxy will get rid of Lyme disease. What my personal goal is, is to buy myself some pain free time(while keeping the buggers in check) to build up my immune system with lots of other things, so that I can get off the abx.

My chiro had a poster up in his office that said that the 3rd leading cause of death in this country was prescribed drugs.

Also, having had a nasty run in with Omnicef, I start any new addition slowly.

Oh, I'm about 160lbs. I can't believe I would share that! I don't even get on the scale at the Docs office.

Dr. B's guidelines do recommend that the blood levels of doxy be checked and the dosage adjusted accordingly. Some docs do this, some don't.

For what its worth
I am 95lbs-100 lbs depending on the month & take 400mg doxy .
Have always done this dosage. Anything lower doesn't do it for me.

take care

I am 230 pounds and TOOK 400mg a day. NOW I take 0mg a day. I think THAT is a better dosage. A lot less pain that way.
