Does one herx when on mepron or artemisinin? How long before the herx if it happens?
I am following Dr. K's method of 3 days of high dose artemisinin with a 2 week break and then doing it again. I have tested negative for babesia, but thought this might be a way to tell for sure if I have it. Should I herx with sweats, chills etc? So far, I am just a bit nauseous from the herb. Appreciate your input. Hiker

I tolerated the 1500 mg per day for 3 days pretty well. Another Lymie that I know did the same thing one weekend and then again two weeks later and got very sick both times. So, it would appear that Babesia was more of an issue in that case maybe.
By the time I had done the Artemisinin, I was already on Mepron for about 6 weeks.

Hey Hiker
I am up to 500mg 2XD. At 95-100lbs , I would consider this a strong dose. 4 days on.. 11 off.
But my stomach is takin a hit. the herx's are stronger. But not sure its worth it. Can't say its the art because 2 abx and mepron is in the brew.
I have heard some people don't get your classic herx's. I wish I where one of them.
p.s. Not herxing any more with the chills/fever

hey Hiker53 Just thought I would update you tonight on my day back on my babs meds including the art.
I was so nauseated tonight that I couldn't stomach taking my second dose.
I think the 1000 mg of art is just too much for my stomach to handle.
I am going to back off tommorow and ,if I can stomach,only take my abx for lyme.
I dearly hope I didn't trash my stomach for good now.
I have ordered mastic gum and super cridical omega 7 and will taka these and try and heal my stomach.

Hey, everyone.
As you know by now, I have had terrible stomach problems on abx, so quit them altogether.
I am scheduled to go on high dosage of Artemisinin this coming weekend, so will update you on any problems IF I have any.
I had 600mg a day last month, and my stomach was bad, but I am 99% sure it was from the abx, not the Artemisinin. Because I quit the Artemisinin and didn't notice it getting better. Got worse, so quit the doxy.
You better be taking Red Root with the Artemisinin IF you want to feel decent though. Definitely NOT recommended to take Artemisinin without the Red Root.
I will be upping my Red Root from 30 to 40 drops 3 times a day to about 90 to 100 drops 3 times a day.

Hi Hiker, I did that high doses artemisinin a couple of times. I herxed with lyme not babesia, I think, as arthritis got worse initially then healed (until now)!!
I remember the first day on high dose artemisinin, some 'head explosions' besides diarrhea and arthritis pains. I suppose my head symptoms were babesia connected.
Most clear thing that artemisinin (and Riamet) hitted babesia for me were that night chills disappeared completely the next days after taking them.
Body temperature was normalized quite fast, no more low grade fever. But symptoms came back slowly about 10 days- 15 days... Never got night sweats again though.
Another symptom that disappeared were heart symptoms (pressure, pains). It was also fast after taking high doses for me. But I start to have the pressure slowly building up as I didn't continue the 2 week cycle. I'll have to go back again to it, I suppose.
Low doses make no difference for me.

I have now done 3 days of 1000mg of artemisinin and have seen no effects. I am concluding that I do not have babesia. The only symptom I had for it was fatigue which of course, could be Lyme.

Reporting in after my first day of Artemisinin at 1200mg.
My face became somewhat numb. I had numbness and tingly feelings in my right arm.
I felt very tired all day, hard to hold my eyes open. Also vision not the best, hard to focus.
No chills, no sweats.
THat is about it so far.

Hiker, forgot to say, I took 1200mg and I'm very thin.
Lower doses caused almost no improvement in body temperature, but it helped with arthritis (herxes). I think that was lyme.
Some people that took Riamet (for malaria) told me they felt extremely tired with it. I felt tired only in the third day, if I remember well, but not deadly tired.

I am nearing the end of my second day at 1200mg, and I have been super tired all day today. Can hardly keep my eyes open.
Fell asleep TRYING to watch a movie tonight. Just could NOT keep awake no matter HOW HARD I tried.
Otherwise, just a little tingly feelings in the right arm, and some numbness in the face and not real good vision again today. I definitely can feel I am taking it.
One more day, and that is it. I don't think I will take it like that again.
I do have the whole herb Artemisia Annua powder, and may take a little of that from time to time, to use it up. ??????

Well, I just got through my third day of the 3-day, 1200mg protocol of Artemisinin/Red Root.
I have three pills left and am going to spread them out over tomorrow.
I felt pretty much the same today as the previous days, except my vision was a little worse. I just woke up from an hour nap and now my vision is pretty decent again.
I have a slight numbness in my face. The rest of me feels decent.

Do you have Zithro mixed in with the Mepron and Artemisinin or no?
I added the Art in a cpl weeks ago with thoise two, and had the worst headache I've ever had...I think this was a good thing, but I couldn't look into a PC for very long due to the pain. I definately have Neuro lyme.
Glad I stopped the Art after few days...I didn't know you were only supposed to take for 3 or 4 days worth...I would have just kept taking it.
What is the standard for adding it into other ABX?

You don't say HOW MUCH Artemisinin you are taking a day.
IF it is low, you can and SHOULD take it longer, like 30 to 40 days. (300mg to 600mg a day).
IF you do the 1200mg a day, it is three (3) days.
Then off for two weeks, then on again for 3 more days; IF you still need it. You can also repeat that again, IF necessary.

ahhh...gotcha...yeah it was lower (100mg pills)...started @ 3/day...then backed off due to the headaches compounded by my PC.

Also, can anyone explain how babs acts differnt from lyme? Is it a spirokete and does it produce a toxin when dying?
Do they go into a cyst form and thats why they respond to mepron?

Hiker, I decided to go back to art. two days ago, was so chilly could barely think. I was waiting for other herbs to come, but I couldn't wait longer....
It's been about 6 weeks I dont' treat babesia, thought I was rid of it, but symptoms were coming slolwy back (heart pressure + chills basically).
Got the strongest reaction ever, very different from previous, no more lyme herxes (I think I'm pretty low with borrelia for the moment), I just feel total dizziness. That started day one on high dose artemisinin (I started 300mg, then jumped 400mg 3x day).
I think I just react 'babesia' now with artemisinin. Had got air hunger (pretty strong), the moment I'm writing to you I have to take deep breath! And fatigue. Quite extreme a few hours a day.
Worst reaction now is in the head, got headaches in the day, total dizziness now. Got the same reaction firt time I took Riamet, drenching sweat too. With art., never got sweats.
It's funny I react different everytime I take artemisinin, but now I feel it's not a lyme dying reaction as it's concentrated on heart + head + breathing. Heart pressure is practically gone now (I'm still on day 2 artemisinin).
