I met with Dr. K. She was very compassionate and was happy to treat me for lyme. Agreed it made more sense than driving an hour to dr. P. (since I may be a high maintainance patient)
I asked her nurse if she ever sees lyme paitents get well and she said yes...all the time...and dr. K's is well loved by her patients...
Dr. K told me that the depression is most likely due to the lyme disease. Told me there are many studies from dr. fallon about this.
Said that in her experience-- length of therapy mattered more than combination or IV therapy and combos tend to exponentially increase stomach and digestive problems. Prescribes only one abx at a time.
She was on IV back in the 80's for many months and the lyme returned just as fierce after it was stopped.
I asked about pain management and she tells her patients that when a herx hits to stop all abx and wait until herx is over then when cytokines leave the body and you feel better, it's time to restart abx. Tylenol/advil for pain...
She talked about probiotics but at this point doesn't recommend vitamins/minerals.
Said it was wise to meet with a therapist for depression and meds to help with this.
Told me no special diet just healthy low carb and no alcohol.
Is putting me on Biaxin XL 2tabs in the morning--starting Monday. She likes biaxin since it gets in the cells--it helped her the most as well. (After her battle w/neurolyme in the 80's, She is doing quite well and has not had a relapse...she also thought at the time she may die too...)
Wants to see me in five weeks unless I have any problems/herxes that are too hard or whatever else. This is the good part, she is only a mile from my house and I can see her anytime I want to.
Sorry to ramble but I am so grateful to you for supporting me and I always like to know what other llmds are doing out there...
I feel a little better tonight...a bit more hopeful...
