Has anyone considered drinking artemisia tea instead of taking capsules in the babesia treatment protocol?

I haven't heard too many people using the tea.

You should definitely talk to your LLMD about this! [Smile]

For any Herb, making a tea may not supply you with all of its vital elements. And the amounts may be inconsistent. That is somewhat true of the whole herb, too; for many of the active ingredients, the extract (in this case, artimisinin) is best. For a tea, the temp of the water could make a difference in some cases, too.

With some herbs, the exact amount is not as critical, and for some herbs, a tea is a very good way to get the active ingredients (water soluble or easily emulsified).

But in the case of babesia treatment with artimesia, you want to be absolutely sure you are getting everything you need from it. So in that case ingesting the whole herb is preferable to the tea. The extract, artimisinin, is very good, too; all of this active ingredient will be ingested, at least into the G.I. tract, and one step of breakdown is bypassed. Of course, absorption is the next step in the process; some patients could have a weaker link there than others. This is true of antibiotics, too, and may explain why some people do better with I.V. meds.

I have not heard of an I.V. formulation of artimisinin though; and have never heard anyone suggest that might be worth developing.

(this could be because of pretty universal absorption, or, because working on this formulation has never been deemed worthwhile (financially, unfortunately...).

THat is an interesting article you posted Jwenny.

I have taken BOTH Artemisinin AND Artemisia annua.

I felt worse taking the Artemisinin in high doses WHILE taking it. But I did feel okay after.

When I was taking Artemisinin in low doses I hardly felt I was taking it. It is the same NOW that I am taking the whole herb daily.

The WHOLE herb will work just as good and in some instances even better than the extract Artemisinin, as you are getting the benefits of other good attributes of the herb. Man likes to fool with nature, TRYing to improve on it. AND THAT is why we are in trouble today, with everything out of kilter.

The only thing is, with the whole herb, Artemisia annua, is that you need to UP the dosage for it to be totally effective in Malaria or Babesia.

Remember it was discovered in China how effective it was against Malaria. THEY used the whole herb.

The secret is in the dose.

Make sure IF you are using the whole herb, it is Artemisia annua as it is the only species with Artemisinin in it.

Thanks everyone for your comments. I too always wonder why all the chinese were able to overcome malaria using this. And they did it using the whole herb. But just want to get some perspectives on this. Still not sure which route I will pursue. Thanks again!
