I read somewhere that it was not good to combine doxy and amoxi together because doxy is bacteriaostaic and amoxi was bactericidal. Does anyone know the rationale behind this? Also, there many bacteriaostaic and bactericidal ABXs. Does this apply to all of them? Specifically, I'm wondering about zith and amoxi since zith is bacteriaostaic.

There is more to think about when combining abx that just that.
You also have to know each drugs mechanism of killing or damaging pathogens (that's it's mechanism)
and you also have to know whether it's reaction time (how long a pathogen it exposed to the abx) or the dose is what makes it work
and you have to know how each drug is metabolised so you'll know how they interact.

I was going to post this same type of question this morning also.
My question is why are bacteriaostaic abx prescribed if they only inhibit bacteria growth? I read on the net somewhere that some of the abx in this classification can become bactericidal at higher than normal dosages?? Does anyone know if this is the case and what dosages are bactericidal?
My daughter is on 200mg zithromax (weighs 75 pds.) daily. Is this amount considered bactericidal? or not?
What is the reasoning behind prescribing these two different types??
