Melanie,
I'm just running out and don't have time to look but try doing a search on just medical for detox and put minoucat's member # in the box at the bottom. Her number is 5175.

I hope it pans out, if you find it can you send it up to the top?

I can't manage the site since it changed either and am frustrated often. Sorry I couldn't be more help right now. HTH!

Hello Melanie how are you?

Milk Thistle, chlorella, lemon water, foot patches (I prefer podi patch), Epsom salt baths, dry skin brushing, lymphatic drainage massage, Yogi liver detox tea, and lots of water.

I hope this helps!

What I've come up with is drawn from my own reading and experimenting to find a detox system I can live with-- there are so many different approaches and points of view! I can send you some detox recipes that I've used with success, if you wish.

Detox while on LD/co treatment:

-- Many abx are processed through the liver. Some abx, like Rocephin, are notorious for causing gall bladder problems. My own experience is that you can address this very effectively, and even bring elevated liver enzyme numbers down, with a liver/gall bladder flush. I like this site for explaining the liver detox: http://www.liverdoctor.com/02_liverdetox.asp

-- The kidneys are also mightily affected by abx; so is the gut and the lymph. Detox teas have worked very well for me to keep my kidneys healthy (dandelion tea, etc.).

-- All detoxes work best if you've also scrubbed out your colon first -- makes sure that the toxins are actually eliminated, and not just flushing out of your liver and building up in your gut. The sites already listed in this post and the ones above describe how to do this. I like the psyllium husk/bentonite clay drink for this.

-- When you're not well, not moving around much, and taking in a lot of abx, your lymph system is liable to become very inefficient. So you need to get that moving too.

Simple movement is excellent for the lymph system; there are also herbal combos that are said to help flush it. Drinking good water helps. Massage is another great lymphatic drainage technique. If your lymphatic system isn't working well and you get a massage or exercise, you can experience a very nasty flush of toxins into your system that can leave you very nauseated.

--Yeast/gut detox: If you've been on abx for a while, odds are you have a yeast problem. My tongue gets white and heavily coated when I'm yeasty. If you have a food allergy or the abx has messed up your stomach/gut lining, you might have leaky gut as well.

Yeast can get serious fast, and be as awful as LD/co. Detox is usually a fungicide, like Nystatin or diflucan (manufactured), or Oregano oil, olive leaf oil (herbal). Plus fresh, freeze-dried or Kyolic garlic. Plus excellent probiotics and digestive enzymes. Plus a colon cleanse.

Leaky gut can cause dreadful food allergies and bowel dysfunction, so you need to help your gut heal. Saccharomyces boulardii is excellent for this; diet change is key. There are very good articles online about Leaky Gut -- it's a good idea to read up on it. The liver detox site I've listed has good leaky gut info.

--neurotoxins from Bb, babesia, etc: This is a weird area. There is some research that indicates that Bb, babesia, and maybe some of the other infections release toxins that affect the brain (and the rest of you). Some docs like to use cholestyramine(CSM) to bind these toxins and move them out of the brain and the rest of the body (or Welchol, beta sisterol, etc.) The research is very weak in this area. My own experience with CSM is iffy -- it may have helped a great deal, but so much else was going on for me at the time, I just dunno.

--Detoxing when herxing. Just my own experience, but I've found that by the time I hit a major herx, I'm not in a detoxing sort of mood, unless it involves crawling in a warm epsom salts bath. Herxes are thought to be a direct reaction to bacterial die off, whereas the toxin problems I described above are caused by the abx itself, or the yeast, gut problems, etc.

I've found some things that ease some herxes, but I don't know if I'd call them detoxifiers, exactly. But you can assume that keeping your kidneys, gut, and liver in good condition will help flush the dieoff out faster. There's a good overview about herxing at the Jemsek Clinic

--Abx and pharmaceuticals in general cause terrible problems for some people. I'm one of the lucky people with a teflon liver who are not chemically sensitive -- but don't assume that whatever you're going through is simply a herx or an LD symptom. Many folks on this board have done a terrific job of hunting down new ways to help their bods deal with LD AND the chemicals used to treat it. So keep asking questions and trading experiences....

Detox in general:

--There's a whole other side to detox for anyone, even if they are healthy and haven't taken abx. The main issues seem to be
- heavy metals, like mercury and cadmium
- parasites, as in the ones you get from pets, soil, veges, etc.
- blood pH levels (too acidic or too basic)

Didn't mean to write a novel. This is the most coherent I've been in the past week--guess I'm celebrating. Hope I haven't muddied the waters for you...

hi melanie,
i believe this is the most essential part (beside praying) to eradicate the borrelia neuro toxin effect on the body.

I really started my quest for treating lyme disease ( Had no insurance) with the following protocol http://www.neuraltherapy.com.

In short - chlorella before meals and cilantro after helped immensely.. lemon with molasses.

Those nasty bugs remain-- but the toxins are under control

hope you get well

Detox bath

1 cup salt,
1 cup soda,
1 cup Epsom salts,
1 cup aloe vera,
to a hot bath

remain in and keep hot for about 11/2 hours all the while consuming about 2 quarts of warm water. Evidently the perspiration and osmotic pressure removes the causative toxins.

Liver Detox

See http://www.liverdoctor.com/02_liverdetox.asp for a good overview for liver detox, leaky gut, etc

Gallbladder/liver Flush

The following procedure is based on: "Natural Liver Therapy" by
Christopher Hobbs, L. Ac., Botanica Press, Capitola, CA (1993).

Eat only whole foods (un-refined foods) without fat for a whole day. About an hour before bedtime, drink 1/4-cup of extra virgin cold pressed olive oil mixed with 1/4-cup of freshly squeezed lemon juice (from one lemon). Repeat this process every 15 minutes until a total of 1 cup each of olive oil and lemon juice is finished.

An alternative to this procedure is to replace lemon juice with freshly-squeezed grapefruit juice. A 1/4 to 1/2 cup of grapefruit juice can be used each time. A total of one to one and a half cups of grapefruit juice is required. It works well and tastes better than lemon juice.

Go to bed immediately and lie on your right side. The next morning take 1 litre (approximately 4 cups) of warm distilled or filtered water containing two level teaspoons of un-iodized sea salt. Alternatively the addition of juice from half a lemon may be used in place of the sea salt.

Eat only softly cooked vegetables and broth the second day.

------------------------------------------

Alternate liver cleanse

Put the following in a blender:

~ One cup of fresh squeezed Citrus: use orange, grapefruit, tangerine, lemon, and/or lime. Make the combination as sour as possible. You can dilute this mixture with purified water.

~ One to two cloves of garlic.

~ One small piece of fresh ginger.

~ One tablespoon of organic olive oil.

~ Blend the above ingredients and drink immediately. Follow with two cups of a cleansing teas, such as Jason Winters or dandelion tea.
It is preferable to do the liver flush drink in the morning on an empty stomach, and then wait an hour before eating.

It is suggested to do the liver flush four times a year (as the seasons change) or whenever you feel you need a boost. Five days in a row each time is recommended.

Intestinal Cleansing

don't take with abx, as it will absorb the abx. (Same for activated charcoal). Will also absorb vitamins and minerals, so take separately from them, too.

Soak 1 teaspoon to 1 tablespoon of Bentonite clay in 1 cup of filtered water for 12 hours. Start soaking in the morning. OR -- by the pre-soaked clay (bottled). Available in health stores

Then add 1/2 to 1 tablespoon of psyllium husks or plantago seeds to the clay mixture and mix well.

Drink and eat the whole cup of mixture immediately and then followed by 1 cup of warm water before bedtime.

Drink at least 8 cups of warm water a day including 2 cups first thing in the morning.

Repeat the procedure until the stool becomes normal (usually 1 to 2 weeks), when no more intestinal cloggings are coming out.

Colon cleanse

Coffee enemas -- gross, OK, get over it. Here's what one LD person said about the enemas: It wiped out my depression almost instantly...headaches and nausea, within a half hour..It makes me wonder if the depression some of us suffer isnt just toxins..

And here's what another LD person said: Believe me, it wouldn't have been such a popular topic if it didn't work as well as it does -- especially for those killer headaches. Helps with fatigue and brain fog too, but for pressure headaches, it's absolutely amazing.

This is the gentlest of the recipies. Dr. {MD) Sherry Rogers' information about this topic. The idea behind the coffee retention enema is that it acts in the very last part of the colon, the sigmoid colon. The caffeine in the coffee is absorbed via the portal vein and goes directly into the enterohepatic systems which takes it to the liver where it makes the liver and gall bladder dump out their toxins. The caffeine never actually enters the systemic blood circulation at all. (While you might feel a bit wired or jittery from this the very first time you try it, it's not likely that if you make it according to her or to Gerson's recipes that you will continue to feel that way for very long.)

According to Dr. Rogers, the caffeine in the coffee also contains alkaloids that stimulate the production of glutathione-S-transferase, which is an enzyme used by the liver to make the detox pathways run. This enzyme is necessary to form the proteins that hook onto (or "conjugate") those nasty chemicals in the body so the enzymes pull them out through the liver, bile ducts, gall bladder so that they exit the body.

She discusses Dr. Gerson and Dr. Kelley's many contributions and says that this method of detox has been around for many years and that it was even included in the Merck Manual up until 1977 when it was removed for lack of space because there were so many new drugs on the market by then.

Dr. Roger's recipe is 2 flat tablespoons of coffee per quart of water, boiled for 5 minutes. She recommends adding one tablespoon of unsulfured molasses for each quart of coffee solution. The molasses is not supposed to be a problem for Candida or yeast the way it is used here. The molasses aids in retention, since you want to be able to retain a half quart at a time and to hold it for 10 minutes. The molasses does make it easier to last the full ten minutes without as much discomfort.

She comments on the saftely of this process and mentions that all of the important vitamins, minerals and electrolytes have already been absorbed higher up in the small bowel and upper areas of the colon. The coffee here stays in the sigmoid (Ss") portion, so it is not considered a colonic or a high enema, and it does not wash out the protective IgA or as much of the mucous layer covering the intestinal mucosa.

To keep it from being a high enema or a colonic, she advises that you do NOT exceed 1/2 quart of coffee at a time. She recommends that you used the coffee at body temperature. "It should be the same temperature as a baby's bottle" or slightly cooler. She also warns us not to hang the enema bag too high (like from a shower head.) She mentions hanging it at waist level so that the coffee will flow very gently and not with force.

Dr. Sherry Rogers also advises that organic coffee is best, but she also says that for the short amount of time, any caffeinated coffee is OK. (Folger's red label, for example.) She does stress that it is best to have reverse osmosis or spring water, especially if one is chemically sensitive. If you have to use city water, she advises boiling it for ten minutes first, to "boil off the chlorine" before making the coffee. (Chlorine has been linked to cancer.) She also recommends making it in a stainless steel or glass coffee maker, but not anything aluminum to cook it in.

Great point! Someone told me about an detox protocol in which you add 2 tsp.of pure sea salt to a quart of water and drink the entire amount down.

She does it and swears there is no harmful affects but then again she is healthly and regains strenght quickly.

How about it has anyone heard of this. It sounds too easy to be true.

All those other things create many problems especially trying to get your system feeling "normal" if you know what I mean again.

Ive done bentonite clay ( which amazingly helped) after I was able to dig the remnants of cat litter out of my ears and liver flushes (Hulda Clark) which I swear helped push me into remission.

Also done neural therapy, and other therapies.
