One of the errors that I made along the way was taking Mepron while also taking Doxycycline. Having heard at several conferences of late that this is NOT a good idea and decreases the effectiveness of the Mepron, I wanted to pass it along to ensure no one else spends the money on Mepron that will potentially not resolve the issue if you are also taking concurrent doxy. Be well.

How about Minocycline with Plenquil, would that be the same?

Is this true for all the -cyclines with Mepron or oly Doxy?

Thanks,
robi

Thank you for passing that along to us!
Good to know for others whop are considering this combination. Another thing to never take with Mepron is CoQ 10, and when you do thake mepron, to take it with a fatty food for maximum absorption.

In addition doxy (or other cyclines) and flagyl shouldn't be taken together either . .pg 15 Dr B . .

"Because there is laboratory evidence that tetracyclines may inhibit the effect of Flagyl, this class of medication should not be used in these two- and three-drug regimens."

THere are a bunch of warnings saying that milk thistle is also not good to take with mepron...lowers it's effectiveness.

here is one:

Anytime you are dealing with a medical question, please remember we are not doctors here. Ask your doctor or pharmacist because of the possibility of a drug reaction. Good luck!

Correction, its all tetracycline based drugs, that includes Minocycline. HOWEVER, doxycycline does have a synergetic effect with Mepron, much like Zith.......the drawback is the reduction in serum levels, which effectivly kills the synergy........DOOOOH!

That last phrase was an hopelessly bad attempt at impersenating Homer Simpson....very difficult to do with letters I might add.

Cyclines do appear to reduce the absorption of Mep, but first article does mention synergy during IV. Does absorption mean while in the stomach/GI track? If so, is this a timing issue of when to take each????

You must take mepron with a macrolide such as zithromax or ketek to try and slow down the development of drug resistance, and it's a great idea to take artemisinin as well.

Doxycycline is an excellent malaria preventative on its own, and is sometimes taken with quinine to treat malaria. Plaquenil is a rarely used malaria preventative, and is not prescribed as a treatment.
